Awesome blog. Thank you for sharing your thinking on this. Most oftentimes the reaction you get from people is centered around the emotion of not wanting to lose something they assumed had value. People are afraid of not looking smart so they double down, and greed kicks in.... This happens all the time when trying to purchase Property. Great decision!

One big mistake i see a lot here and there is people often choose a generic term, or an expression made of generic terms, for their domain names, and buy all the corresponding extensions (.com, .net, etc.) in order to prevent other people to use future domain names close to theirs. And only then, they decide to register the chosen name to the copyright. The problem is that this name they chose will never be fully registered as a trademark, because it can't be considered as such, due to the fact a generic term, or a term that describes your product or service, can't let you distinguish your product or service from a similar one of the same area. Thefore the name will never be protected by the law, which can make your life more difficult as an entrepreneur when your company becomes successfull over time.

True. But is this case, the more apropos expression would be 'pick your battles'. :)

A couple thoughts came up. 1.Did you use another name instead of the one that was trademarked? Im guessing you did, but idk. 2.Was the name being used in the same industry? Example clothing manufacture vs. computer manufacture. from my understanding in the US, as long as you don't offer similar service or product. The same name can be used but symbols and presentation of specific font and color scheme can not be used. Im not offering legal advice, just curious to know more details of the story.

Hi, Good questions. Same, or close enough industry ... that's why it applied.
