I agree, there's something in George's voice that almost sounds like he's crying. Whatever he's feeling, the pain the rawness of those lyrics really comes out in his vocals and goes to a place that you can't explain.

george's voice is something but elton's emotion in the 1986 sydney entertainment centre version was another league for me. this one is really cool. the problem with george's version is the instrumental. the vocal part of george was amazing but the instrumental was really bland comparing to elton's standalone piano performance or even this orchestra.

This song is so beautiful and I'm so grateful that it was written and arranged by Bernie and Elton. When I bought the CD to rooms by Elton and Bernie and heard George sing Tonight on that CD it brought me to tears. There's something that George has in his voice, a powerful but yet velvety sound comes out. Pitch perfect in tune with a passion I don't hear in anyone else's voice. We all have our own personal taste and preference. Elton sings it beautifully because it is his song but just take a listen at George's version and his interpretation of it. Simply gorgeous.

Thank God for utube and Elton John...I thought I'd lost this piece of magic.....Elton with Aust symphony orchestra.....back in 1986 if I'm correct....I broke tape....but here you are again Elton!....I loved you from your first Aussie hit 'friends'.....I was 12 years old....I'm so glad..that David and Zach make you smile...coz YOU Elton have made me smile for the last 40 years....When I see you in concert I feel like I'm in the presence of a GOD....Your music has surrounded me for as long as I can remember......and if I may...I'm glad your living 60 years on.....and happy....Janet xx .

yea elton sucks. therefore george looekd up to him right? yea george always wanted to write a song like elton. u only think falsetto voices can sing but this version speaks another kind of richness. the one thing i like abt elton is variety. he kept reinventing himself and never tried to go back to his past styles. no other artist has reinvented himself that much. he was the one who composed this and wrote this. this was his genius and not george's.
