Graf FH was simply awesome. Her game was simply way ahead of time.

If memory serves me correctly, 1996 was the year that Testud got into much better shape and her results started to improve. In the late 90s, she could often challenge Seles and Hingis, sometimes stretching them to 3 sets. I think she even once beat Seles at Wimbledon one year. Just goes to show how important fitness is in sports.

I remember first seeing Sandrine play an early round at the 1992 US Open against Capriati and her talent off the ground really stood out. When her fitness improved she became a very strong player for sure.

You’re right. She also had a few remarkable wins against Sanchez, Davenport, Martinez, Majoli, Capriati and the Williams sisters. Her fighting spirit was fantastic.

That 1:34 point that ended with another forehand winner by Steffi... Sandrine was like "I threw everything at her and she still won that point with another winner"....

It was the first tournament Steffi played with the Wilson racquet, was it?

@@justtennischannel2 I think so. And it made such a huge difference in her game.

Steffi speed just too amazing! That slice will destroy all the rhythm of the lazy players nowdays

I actually think it's her biggest weapon. She was heavily dependent on that slice to put her opponents off balance. By forcing them to dig them up, it set up her forehand.

During this part of her career, it looks as if Testud was a huge fan of brie and foie gras.
