I wish we’d see more Steiger green, like the good old days

I went to that place for a tour as a kid. Got to miss a day of school in grade school to fly up there from way down south. I think they were spending some money bringing farmers up there to buy more green steigers, as this was the early 80's, but by then farmers were quickly running out of cash flow to buy big stuff

Very informative. I toured the Fargo Plant in 2002 and it is an impressive operation.

Can the farmer do his own maintenance?
@rustyshackleford67498 жыл бұрын
I live in Minnesota about two hours south of the plant. Drove by once with my uncle and i had no idea what it was cuz i was just little at the time. All he said was thats where the 9170 (Our 4wd at the time) came from, then i knew haha

The paint job on my Case IH tractors is downright sorry. 8 years old barn kept tractors FADED badly!!!
@chrisanderson75873 жыл бұрын
I used to work there, there were guys on the floor laughing about them turning pink before they left the plant. That was when they had just started making the STX series, I had hoped that would have improved by now.

@@trossponsor9077 it’s actually possible. The Steiger family built number 2 for itself but it did get sold later on

Why is the rear left side fender welded on and the right side it bolted on. This goes for the regular Quadtrac (which the fenders are part of the fuel tank) and the Rowtrac (which are just regular flat steel fenders) Just wondering.
@crazyhass848 жыл бұрын
Some customers have implements that require better lines of sight to the machine. aka beet harvesters. So the right fender is bolted on so it can be removed. Good example of Case IH making a product designed for the customer.
@shawnjacob24927 жыл бұрын
actually it's because the rear frame with both saddle tanks on makes it too wide for the aisle on the assembly line and paint line.

I’ve always wanted a quadtrac but they are too expensive, maybe if I win the lottery.

I about fell out of my chair laughing when they were talking paint. I have a 3 year old 550 that is faded so bad its almost pink. It's only outside for two months out of the year.

Their comment about the paint took me back too. Some things are worthy of bragging about. Chalky red paint is not one of them.
@Gator-127 жыл бұрын
Jay Farmer. Tell case IH, not everyone else. They might fix it. Never know unless you ask. Terrible shame for poor quality paint on a tractor that expensive!
if they are a 'world class' tractor why is case ih using single braid hydraulic hose?
@bertxblitzkrieg9 жыл бұрын
Because it gets the job done, and is probably very similar to the hose from the hardware store I will replace it with after a few years of good use.

sirk edhor hydrolics fail sensors fail, bearings, paint you name it. My neighbor bought a brand new mx 275, three later he was dumping 10 grand a year into it replacing sensor that fail. He replaced it with a john deere and has zero regrets.

Too bad its a Italian Iveco Engine.
@boomerang3797 жыл бұрын
Hey CaseIH!!! Get rid of the bullshit Iveco engines and give us the option of Cat or Cummins again. Scrap the powershift and give us Allison automatics again. You are selling junk now compared to what they were when they were Steiger green, which by the way, they should still be green.
@crazyhass846 жыл бұрын
boomerang379 u r nuts! Have u actually driven a 4wd with the FPT engine?! They r much smoother, quieter, and 15 to 25% better on fuel economy vs the rattle box 15l Cummins. Oh ya, they also start in the cold. The old Cummins rarely started in the cold. U couldn't pay me to use one of the old Cummins powered tractors. Try joining us in the real world in 2018 vs 1995.
@crazyhass846 жыл бұрын
Suuuure what Allison can handle 700hp and 2500 lb ft from the engine in a 60k lb tractor?! Not to mention have enough gearing to match working conditions. I am waiting... for u to get a clue.
@jeffroberts66716 жыл бұрын
The IVECO is a way better motor than the Cummins. And the PowerShift is the best on the market in a 4wd. I’ve put over 12k hours on two Steiger tractors personally pulling pans their hole lives! And I’m on my 3rd Steiger (Steiger 435) with almost 8k hours with NO engine or transmission problems! Don’t hate em till you try em!
