This program was conceived as a promotional vehicle for Steinberger Sound and was distributed to all of the Steinberger dealers at the time. It features discussions and demos with artists like Rick Derringer, Arlen Roth, Vinnie Zummo and others, as well in-depth interview segments with Ned on design, feature and performance aspects of his instruments. A highlight is a detailed demo on how to set up a TransTrem from Ned himself. Full program is broken into 5 segments for easier downloading.

I think on a very basic level, Steinbergers are the perfect guitars. They are virtually indestructible(at least the originals) and they were designed to have a neutral EQ for a variety of tone-shaping. Aesthetically, they are not for everyone, but the originals have got to be the most rugged things ever made. On the level of pure practicality, they are unequaled in my opinion. Worry-free workhorses.

I've always admired the radical departure the Steinbergers provided. Cool shape. Nice sound.

The funny thing about how great these guitars already were, it took Edward Van Halen to make these guitars cool, in the 80s most players of the Steinberger were new wave acts etc, and they were great, but EVH comes out playing one and suddenly the Steinberger was taken seriously, the Tremolo on this guitar is legendary. So versatile. Geddy Lee loved his Steinberger bass mainly when he was playing keyboards there was so much less guitar moving around hitting things. Great bass/guitar.

very cool.. i get really annoyed when these guitars and bass's are advertized as practice models. I have the bass version of this and the guitar version to, and i can tell you they are some of the nicest instruments ive ever played..i love how they look, im 35 i grew up in the 80s glued to MTV and saw guys play these things and was in awe..the fact they are so easy to maintain is a bonus..hohner makes a very nice copy of these too.

I love Steinbergers forever. So stupid, that no company brings that system back again. Headless guitars have lots of fans nowdays (again).

they indeed do still sell the transtrem (not the original) On the steinberger ZT-3 custom guitar. but they cost on average $2,600. On eBay you can occationaly find an original Transtrem for around $1,000.

I think you can, but they as far as I know, they are hard to get and very expensive. I was told this when I asked Uli Teuffel around 3 years ago about ordering a Tesla with a TransTrem. It added 1,000 more to the project.

Y'know, I've always disliked the bodies on those guitars, and it just looks so strange to NOT have a headstock... but I've got to admit, TransTrem owns the hell out of Floyd Rose!

If Steinberger had launched in 1975, and had started off with a cheap wooden guitar, they'd have been picked up by early punks *because* they were different and not like all that old hippie fancy furniture rubblish, and because they stay in tune forever through every abuse. Sadly they started up in the era of Howard Jones, Dire Straits and MTV and are associated with bad haircuts and a shit period in music. It's a shame, as they are streets ahead of everything else on every level (except for maybe the EMG active pickups).

The axe had a few innovative ideas, but that doesn't guarantee a successful or popular guitar. The original Steinbergers sell for a lot of cash, but it's due to scarceness, not looks or great sound.
