@@sineupp Yes I completely agree! The VN version of that scene is way more powerful, how Okabe is struggling not to break down, his internal monologue: "I will never see Kurisu again. That knowledge shreds my heart..........I can't stop my tears. This is the world I"ve been searching for, a world where Mayuri does not die. And yet, it is missing the person most important to me. It's too much...its too cruel."
@bradleycoates62974 жыл бұрын
I love how quickly Mayuri realised his suffering. The mad scientist persona was Okabe's way to keep Mayuri from feeling as if she wanted to die. It was harmless at first, but the second Okabe show that he's struggling with it, she tells him he doesn't have to do it anymore and it that it is no longer a crutch she needs. It's quite an intense response from Mayuri.

This. I'm one of those "sub is always better" faction, but I can't stress enough that the dub for this anime is at least on par with the original JP VAs. @@Syapaaye Agreed. I'm usually subs only, but I'd go as far as to say the dub is BETTER for this show. So well done.
@Skyl3t0n4 жыл бұрын
@@Altraax I disagree. First of all, it is really hard to match or be even better than the original voiceover since the whole anime was produced with the sub in mind. Then there is a language barrier which prevents the dub from getting the message 100% across. And last but not least the Voices. I hate Mayuris voice in the Dub whereas in the original the voices were picked by the production team to match the characters. Furthermore I don't think the Dub is able to carry as many emotions as the Sub. That's my personal opinion after watching both versions. I don't have anything against dub but if you wanna experience a show the way it was originally designed you better watch the Sub. Amen

Thank you, youall at blind wave. For letting me experience Steins;Gate in it's english dub. Being Japanese, I would of never consider watching it in dub due to japanese being my first language. And DAMN this episode hit home so much more in the wonderful acting and flawless localization by J. Michael Tatum. "...But there's world of ideas dancing in her eyes and her theories God have always hold me spellbound..." Fuck... this dialogue is so good, and maybe even better than the original japanese line. Unno man. It felt way more genuine than to me.

sineupp Yeah I was honestly in that boat until I started watching these reaction, and Tatum really made a new version of Okabe that matches Miyano’s version. And now, I don’t know which I prefer more. Maybe need to watch both version simultaneously with english in one ear and Japanese in the other and compare them.
@AnimatorArt244 жыл бұрын
@@tasogarerubica I gradually come to thinking that dub gets me more than the original. Tatum's interpretation gives a different flavour to the character. He managed to reveal Okabe's chunibyuo side twice as vividly with all of those grandiloquent expressions, it made his speech sound even more ridiculous, which is so characteristic of Okabe. Also they did a very good job on adapting some untranslatable jokes for western audience, I don't know if it was the right decision since the meaning is different, but they nailed it, it was actually funny.
@tasogarerubica4 жыл бұрын
AnimatorArt24 yeah as some who can get the jokes in Japanese due to knowing enough of Japanese internet culture of the day spending a good portion of my time during the late 00’s on sites like 2chan and niconico. But that wouldn’t wholly apply to people who haven’t delved into said Japanese subculture around the same time, so the jokes may fall flat for some viewers. The translation, well more so localization of these niche and obscure referential jokes were interchanged with western references and inside jokes that isn’t a true translation, but it manages to sell the joke in these situations and scenes in the same manner of original language. I’ve dabbled into translation and localization as a side job a few times, so what this dub achieved is like I said a “flawless localization”. I mean the dub’s jokes land for me more so than the Japanese counterpart due to me living in the west and while the japanese jokes due land from experiencing said culture virtually and digitally in media.

If you want to watch Steins;Gate 0 before finishing the original, which I personally recommend, it makes the ending of the original even better, watch 23B then watch Steins Gate 0. After finishing, watch the last two episodes of the original. There is an OVA and a movie that take place after the original show, but neither are canonical. If you want to watch anyway, the OVA would come first, then conclude via the movie.

By the way, the show isn't clear on this but there is only one active worldline rather than parallel worldlines, and only the worldlines was once activated can have its memories carry through to the next one. It is just much better for world building, otherwise you would have infinite number of Okabes jumping through infinite worldlines, and momories from infinite worldlines would bleed through the one we are observing and create a narrative nightmare.

Steins gate episode 22 „Being meltdown“ Caution: very long comment (probably the longest I’ve ever written, so TL,DR coming too) and personal opinion ahead but I feel like I wanna put this out at least once: Too long , didn’t read: this episode is my favorite piece of fiction, nothing has made me feel quite like this before or after, managing to make me go through every emotion humanly possible; if you have had a similar experience, share it with me which show/anime/movie it did for you ^^ Long, read: *_BELIEVE ME_* (he he, see what I did there?) when I say that this episode is my favorite piece of fiction out of everything I’ve ever seen so far, and I’ve watched a decent amount of shows/animes/movies, especially in the last few years. From the moment Kurisu stops okabe from time leaping again until the end it just becomes pure perfection. There are a few episodes of certain shows that I think come *fairly* close to this (5 I can think of from the top of my head) but none of them has made me feel the way this episode has done the first time I watched it, I was just sitting there with a huge smile on my face constantly holding back tears until that kiss, I quite possibly went through every emotion humanly possible in the span of these 22 minutes. „Damn you Einstein“ indeed. Everything from the characters, the dialogue, the visuals, the aesthetics to the voice acting (in all versions I’ve seen which are: Japanese, English, German) are superb. This episode features only two characters almost the whole time and you don’t even realize it until it’s over. Not to mention the beautiful OST, which quite frankly might as well be one of my favorites. I don’t care if anyone thinks that this episode is the best of the show, hell you don’t even have to like it, but for me this is something I’m probably never going to forget because it impacted me that much the first time experiencing it. If any of you have anything that made you feel like no other thing has, similar to my experience with steins gate episode 22, assuming you actually read my whole comment, feel free to give me a reply on this ^^

Weirdly enough, this scene plays out COMPLETELY IDENTICAL (no I'm not exaggerating) in Re Zero episode 18. If you haven't seen it, I won't spoil the details of it, but suffice to say, I LITERALLY had the EXACT same experience with that episode that you had with this episode. The majority of the episode is two main characters in the same spot just talking to each other and letting their hearts out. One contemplates about "running away" and the other gives one of THE BEST confessions in not just anime but any media. I can't even begin to describe the emotions running through me but it was the closest I gotten to crying without actually crying. I put off Re Zero for 2 years until the first part of the dub came out and 6 more months for the second part after many delays, yet somehow not only did I remember everything vividly, I was invested from start to finish without losing my hype. The English dub was PHENOMENAL (thank you Sean Chiplock and Brianna Knickerbocker) throughout and especially for that episode and what gave it that extra nudge is the godly OST and the EP18 insert song. It's been such a long time since I felt the same adrenaline I had when I got into anime and I had an ABSOLUTE BLAST. It's a goddamn masterpiece I'll never forget. It's kinda uncanny that we both had the same experience for different anime with the same episode made by the same studio. What is it with White Fox and time travel thriller masterpieces featuring an overly eccentric protagonist suffering trying to save everyone and his love triangle and having an entire episode dedicated to two characters talking? XD

I think Okabe's first kiss might have been with "Shining Finger", when they fought and she bit his lip. Unless there was an other before that.

@@rendytiro8115 Yes, I just didn't want to spoil anything for them, plus I don't think they thought so far ahead, when making this episode. Loved the movie, I hope they watch it some time in the future.

can someone explain how mayuri knows bad thing will not happen to her? isnt in this timeline no one should remember what has happened till now except ofcourse okabe and also does shizuha knows about okabe in this timeline? (dont give any spoiler if its explained lter until i edit comment)
@chaosmastermind2 жыл бұрын
The real tragedy is the fact that Okabe is the only one that actually knows whether or not time travel is even real. (aside from Suzuha). All his friends have heard about all his exploits traveling through time and world lines and etc.. but none of them have ANY proof. So it's entirely possible that they all think he's just making the whole thing up and they are humoring him. Especially someone like Kurisu who didn't even believe time travel was possible to begin with.. She still isn't sure that he's not just lying the whole time. After all that.. they still have zero proof of any of it, till the time machine literally disappears. Though that's only proof it can disappear and not of anything more specific.

I firmly believe that the best way to watch this show is: Episodes 1-22 Episode 23b All of S;G 0 The rest of S;G This gives you a "chronological" view of the series, and in my opinion gives the original ending a more earned payoff

I hope you guys better watch it in this order: Steins;Gate (24 episodes) -> Steins;Gate OVA (Egoistic Poriomania) -> Movie (Load Region of Déjà Vu), then Steins;Gate Episode 23 β (Divide by Zero) -> Steins;Gate 0 -> Steins;Gate 0 OVA (Polymorphic Valentinus). Take note: The movie isn't based on the visual novel, it was created originally by the anime staff to extend the story.
