pretty soon all of the Central Park south area will be covered with these tall towers and Central Park will be "dark" when the sun is at its southern point

i wonder how sturdy the floor would feel standing at the top. i kinda feel like it would wobble like a cruise ship all the way up there. ive never been in a building that tall before tho so idk

It's made of lots of steel they've designed it so it's strong but it does look so thin to height ratio.

Do supertalls in the US have intermittent "safety/escape" floors like in other parts of the world?
@GN10Gaming5 жыл бұрын
After 9/11, they're obviously going to have to make buildings safer and that means making pressurized stairwells and escape routes, so yes.
@somno68785 жыл бұрын
I just wonder for how much space does the core of the building take...
@stephensalt62295 жыл бұрын
You can just fit a toilet in it...
@overtaxed36284 жыл бұрын
Me too, cant find any information about that !! The WTC had a thicker massive lower part of the steel structure, so thinner and weaker towards the top, but here the construction is made of concrete, so it is not clear to me how much pressure the lower floors of the building suffer and what exactly the structure is !!
@johnphillips71445 жыл бұрын
Nothing about the cost of these units. How fast is the elevator? What are the safety features in case of fire or heavy winds? I don't suppose I would be able to afford the penthouse unit, but then why would I want to live in a building that sways in the wind.

Why is NYC building so many skinny skyscrapers?
@bernatcamps71305 жыл бұрын
Investors want luxury residences in high floors, and there is not much land space in which towers can be risen. There are also many laws which force companies not to build wide towers. Hence, developers are left with the only option of creating thin, tall towers, to maximize the land available.

The construction code of NYC shouldn't allow the construction of this tower. It knocks around the skyline.

Ivine Honorato your opinion, please let the exports take care of this please.
@ivine.honorato5 жыл бұрын
It's not an issue about opinions here... It's a fact. Those skinny buildings at midtown of Manhattan knocks around all it was done in decades. If NYC had a solid code about preserving the integrity of the city skyline this never would be allowed. Tell me if we have awkward buildings like these at center of towns as Paris, Berlin, Lisbon or Rome. Money sometimes can't be the priority, specially when we're talking about one of the most richest cities of the world.
@justinharris51955 жыл бұрын
Ivine Honorato I’m pretty sure the architects are aware of that, look just trust them, remember one time critics said that the plane would never be invented but the brothers that came up with the concept proved them wrong and now planes are the safest form of transportation in the world? Not saying it’s going to be the same for skinny skyscrapers, but I’m sure they will figure something out.
@ivine.honorato5 жыл бұрын
@@justinharris5195 I'm graduating in architecture and I know exactly what I'm saying. Not all architects know what they do. Many of them just want to get their money. Only that. There's a subject called 'preservation of historic heritage'. This teaches us how we can project something modern without attacking architecture heritage of the place around. We have a lot of examples spreaded through the world. We just have to find a way how to do that.
@justinharris51955 жыл бұрын
Ivine Honorato I understand what your saying and I know that a lot of architects just build shit for a cash grab, but not all of them do that. Let’s just hope it won’t turn out this way for this project.

Am I the only one who gets a terrible feeling it's TOO thin? I'm certainly not an architect, but I don't think this building will be finished successfully. I HOPE I'M WRONG, but I can't keep from seeing this building fall. Building anything that tall (and thin) just to break a record is testing God. Just look at the record-breaking Titanic.

And even more ridiculous. There is no view that would get me to live above the 40th floor, preferably below 20th. If I had that much money, I'd move into an older building facing the Central Park or the Hudson. Great views but no ringing in your ears every time you go up or down.

@@GN10GamingAre you stupid? Read my comment again, I am not saying there are no views above the 40th floor, I am saying if it's above the 40th floor it's not worth it. Because people are not birds and certain things are just unnatural. And it is precisely because the views from lower floors in the crowded downtown suck that I'd buy an apartment facing Central Park if I were super rich. Lower/natural floor plus a nice view, capisci?

This is just a colossal accident waiting to happen. If there is sustained winds of 50+ mph or structural integrity is somehow compromised due to cutting corners to reduce costs or shotty construction, that's it! It's ridiculous.

Tall buildings are meant to sway in the wind so the structural support doesn't crack and cause the building to fall over, they also have dampers to minimize swaying.
