Totally agree. He's a master, and pulling off things that the legacy of improvised music has only strived for. It's so beautiful I wish other past pianists like Abdullah Ibrahim were still here so they could witness this too.

His playing is so inventive. His newest “I am the walrus” cover is pretty wild. Very little sustain, very minimal until the end. Worth the listen.

Yes, and great melodies can certainly live different lives. Perhaps I was just in a receptive mood or maybe the exceptional performance, though never showy, I found it entrancing. I’ll look for other things from him

What I love about Brad Mehldau is how very deliberate he is with not only every note, but also with the sustain pedal. You can hear every, single note.

0:36 I love how he adds another voice above the melody but plays it so delicately to keep it from overshadowing the voice in the middle, such a simple but nice touch.

Mehldau’s touch and velocity control is of the greatest in the world. Independent finger control that is so hard to match cause of the sheer years of dedication it takes to get there! He’s a true master of the piano!

Stressed out coming off a long and crowded Tube ride after a busy day in the city, closing myself in a dark bedroom, and putting this on. My heart rate is at least 20% slower and my anxiety and exhaustion are halved. Just gorgeous.

So many years have passed since I sat in a little club in Hollywood shoulder to shoulder with friends to hear Brad and his trio. I knew I was experiencing a once in a life moment. The elegance and eloquence of his voice is so deep and rich with feeling. Rilke in his fingertips.

Masterpiece played by a master. I used to try to write songs, and I wrote a lot of them. There was one I was really proud of for several minutes, until I finally realized I'd just done a (bad) cover of Blackbird. Songwriting is really hard, humbling work. I guess unless you're Sir Paul. On the plus side...I think it does give an extra dimension to your appreciation of the greats if you've given a shot at writing songs yourself.
