The job you have now, unless you're already at retirement age, there's no guarantee it's going to be the job you retire from. You may end up leaving the job or the job may end up leaving you, there's no guarantee of "Till death do us part". That loyalty life long employer stuff ended in the 80's-90's time frame. Hell just look at the hire date of the majority of Stellantis employees, the majority of them were hired after the 2008 restructuring/recession/bailout period. So they came after the senior employees took the buyout/early retirement that the company did back then to lower labor costs. How they do that and get the impression that they are set for a life long good union job is beyond me - even the replacements can be replaced.

Lay off everyone (since you're done making ice vehicles and no longer require them). Intentionally bankrupt all dealers via floorplan loan interest on vehicles you refuse to incentivize or re-purchase. Once all dealers are gone, you are free of U.S. dealer franchise laws and can sell direct to consumers... Sell off all ICE I.P. and declare brands dead, congratulations you are no longer affiliated with the UAW. Move mexican made ev's to u.s. market direct to consumer under a new brand name. The Car Companies think that they are punishing workers by moving production out of the Country, but again, they will be ultimately punishing themselves - once the completed product gets back into the US for sale, no one will be able to afford to buy it. Big 3 lost interest competing on the low end many many years ago. They prospered by making affordable trucks and SUVs. But somewhere along the road they all got greedy and decided to upscale everything in features and pricing. They need to decontent and get pricing back in line if they want to keep their plants running, regardless of whether they are located in USA, Canada, or Mexico. It was a perfect storm for the UAW...Fain, Tavares, runaway pricing at the Big 3, and EV turmoil.
@MichaelDozier-j1bАй бұрын
In a global open economy the UAW was fighting a losing battle. Short of Federal protectionism (see Great Depression) it was only a matter of when the end comes. Regardless of who is CEO of Stellantis....this was going to end badly for all UAW workers. No doubt Tavares took the opportunity of market slump and EV chaos to expedite the process in USA and Canada. The BIGGEST issue is not UAW vs open shop...but whether the Big 3 will return to making affordable cars/trucks/SUVs instead of all going upscale. And quality has to be job one (remember that slogan ?) regardless of where the vehicles are assembled. Keeping it real...making " exciting " cars , which we all want...is a non-issue in the big picture....too small a market segment. Stellantis NA future depends upon what happens to SUVs and trucks.
