If i was in charge of making a game, i absolutely wouldn't allow it to be exclusive to one platform. Not for the sake of money, but to allow everyone to play it.

"Games dont sell consoles", in the meantime PS5s were sold out in China when Wukong dropped. They do sell to a certain degree depending on how anticipated a game is. Imagine how many people will buy a console to play GTA6 because it won't be on PC at first. But being available on multiple platforms is still an import factor, especially for an unknown studio and there first game. Hope PC version will do well and help to build a bigger fanbase. This game deserves more recognition for how good it is

Same could be said for Nintendo games (although there it's more justifiable since the hardware differences and the whole in-house development). I think the point he was getting at was more that the expectation from companies shouldn't be that their games WILL sell their consoles. Yes there are people with enough disposable income to dish out that much money for a (hopefully) 40 hour experience (I can't say this without admitting that I'm a culprit of this) but even then it's a mad ask. I do get what you're pointing out here though. All I know is, if Bloodborne ever came to PC I'd throw money at them so fast... and isn't that what they want at the end of the day? haha!

I think MGS4 should be released for modern Sony consoles only, but it would probably come to steam anyway. I'd honestly sell my PS5 and just buy a steam deck if it wasn't for the fact I already own over 1000 digital ps4/ps5 games.

Well sony funded basically the whole fucking game. Like 99% of it including the engine which was being actively worked on and optimized for the ps3 by a relatively large team of sony engineers on-site at Kojima productions throughout the entirety of development. All of the tech in that game is proprietary to sony. I'm sure the assets could be ported to unreal tho but sony still has the final say on patents and much of the underlying tech. It is what it is. P.S. Konami actually saw the problem in the reliance on sony exclusive tech, which is why they funded the development of kojima's in-house Fox engine.

Thing is fromsoft doesn't own bloodborne playstation does. That's the only reason bloodborne is still exclusive. Hopefully shiftup does the smart thing and port stellar blade to pc whenever their contract with playstation ends. Xbox if possible but with how braindead xbox's politics are I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I understand exactly how you feel. I remember being so frustrated when Bayonetta 2 was announced as a Nintendo exclusive. I really enjoyed playing the first game on my PS3, and basically being locked out of the sequel felt like a massive middle finger to me specifically. I look forward to a future where platform exclusivity is a thing of the past and all gamers can enjoy whatever game they want, whenever they want.

have to disagree here. I personally went out and brought a ps5 brand new, have steller blade, god of war ragnarok, 2018, got, returnal and these are just sonys first party releases, not counting timed exclusive or third party exclusives. I own a PC and knew most of the games would come to pc eventually. but went out and brought one anyway because i couldn't be asked to wait. I now outside of the occasional for honor match no longer game on pc. Im not saying your right or wrong, but the extent of which is impossible for us to know. At the end of the day the reality of the situation is we have no idea what data sony is looking at. One thing i can say is that sony's strategy has been pretty on point in terms of earnings, just look at there share price over 5 years lol. You said in the video you wouldn't of brought a whole console to buy a single game. There's two issues with this being it's not a single game that's appealing that sony has released/will release, and that's only speaking from your own experience, even if you had a few friends it would be, no offense kind of insane, to take the majority consensus and apply that to the whole gaming market that being 3.32 billion people. It's impossible for us to say exclusivity is killing games when we have zero access to data. One thing i do know is the people who are making these decisions do and aren't stupid. Not saying i don't want games to come to all platforms, but it's extremely disingenuous for anyone who doesn't work at these companies to say that exclusivity is killing games. The reality is steller blade would of a never have been made without sonys funding which means everyone loses or b would be much worse due to budget constraints, in the same event everyone loses. It's only it being a success which in large part is down to sony that it came out the way it did to begin with. Saying that the developers where in a hard spot seems like bs because if the choice is no game at all or a significantly worse game vs one platform and a better looking game more likely to succeed i know which option im taking lol. There's also other things to consider such as every year you got a new generation of kiddies asking for a console. If you were a kid which one would you want ? Being honest. Back in the day i got what i was given, but back in the day the internet was much less of a thing as it is today and my utilisation of it is very different (currently 26). There's just so much to consider here. Just think you've taken something quite complicated and simplified it in your answer which isn't representative of the reality the people in these positions have to make.

Stellar Blade is also my game of the year. I hope they nail performance on PC because I think they could easily sell another million copies, especially if they hype the release. I'd be great if they added a few new outfits and exo-spines, maybe a blood and gore toggle, stuff like this could bring back the excitement.

Some companies are really discovering the downfall of exclusivity. Atlus has had Sony exclusive for awhile, Persona 5 had 1.5 million units in a month of sales exclusive to Playstation. Metaphor: ReFantazio had 1 million units sold in 1 day because it launched outside of Playstation. Square-Enix has probably been realizing this as well, since they've pushed more of their games to Steam in the last few years, although they've beta tested a few on Epic first. Can't wait for a Stellar Blade PC release eventually. I would gladly get it a second time for Steam to encourage Devs to stop using exclusivity, and to support the devs.

I'm a bit torn on this one... one the one hand, exclusives are clearly a reason why people choose one system over the other, on the other hand, yeah, exclusivity is also what prevents players from even being able to give certain games a try and, thus, hurt the developers and software sales down the line, because a lot of players aren't flushed with enough cash to just own every possible system/console. And it also leads to BS like console-exclusive missions or characters (like Spider-Man), which, honestly, just shouldn't be a thing...

Not sure when bloodborne will be on PC if ever. If they want to sell it well then they will have to beat emulation. I’m pretty sure we will see Stellar Blade on PC soon. Probably about a year. That may not seem soon, but that’s what we have to deal with.

@ who knows? Ff7 remake intergrade was about a year. Ff16 was about a year and a half. Nioh 2 was less than a year. God of War Ranarok was a year and 3/4 of a year. So around a year is not impossible. I say be positive. All the same Ghost of Tsushima was 4 years and many others took that long too, however shift up was originally making it to be cross-platform until Sony came along. They may have some things already done. They have already announced the port to PC. I highly doubt it is going to be 4 or 3 more years. Two years is a high possibility though.

Bloodborne launched in a very lucky time when nothing else was like it let alone played like it. Also it launched when exclusivity was still profitable if done correctly. Plus everything in the game just looking absolutely gorgeous in a dark and gothic way plus using ideas from a mythos from a very unique book writer.

sounds like a compound investment for sure to existing gamers, but pandering more to the new generation of gamers deciding which first console to have and become a loyalist to. will someone with a host of xbox games buy a ps5 just to play stellar blade? unlikely. will a kid ages 9-15 ask for a ps5 for christmas instead of an xbox because it lets them play spider-man 2, blood borne, rise of ronin, stellar blade, son wukong, etc.? the more exclusives, the more likely that becomes. and an argument could be made for pc master race. but to a parent, a console is a much more readily accessible entry than an entire gaming pc build

i think the better question is _would exclusive games even exist if they weren't exclusive?_ The bulk of platform holders' revenue is from the 30% royalty/copy paid by 3rd party devs, and buyers need a reason why platform-x is better than platform-y. So the average quality of exclusives is higher than multi-plats games. The reason Zelda/Halo/Horizon FW exists is to entice buyers, not to earn direct revenue from 1st party games.

While I agree with you to an extent that console exclusives suck, games do drive console sales. The best current example of this is the Nintendo Switch. It is an incrediblely underpowered piece of hardware and yet is the 3rd highest selling console of all time. While very few singular games make people buy consoles, I'd say a majority of people base which console they are going to buy based on what exclusives they want to play. If there were no exclusives, I think most people would buy or build a pc.

While I'm no pc elitist,( I use my PS5 and Xbox Series S far more than my tower) even I can see just how superior it is to consoles. I get a better performance to cost ratio, better future proofing, mods for just about every game, free online play, and still do everything I can do on my console. The only thing I would lose is the disc drive, and it seems like Playstation and Xbox plan to rid of them anyway.

What is the point,is the fact that Sony is not Microsoft and as you say games don't sell consoles,but many exclusives do. Put it like this,why buy an xbox if you have a PC? TL;DR The same can actually be said of "PC gaming" With the price of electronics in today's economy, PC gaming is far less approachable than it used to be. Not to mention, most of the "gaming community" doesn't care if something is solely on Steam, as an example, because "everyone has a PC"...while most people may have a PC, not everyone has a gaming PC. And, to those people, consoles become more appealing because of the lower price point. Both, BOTH examples that were talked most about and in the title of the video, IF they were released as a PC or Steam excusive, would the gaming community whine "PS5 release when?". No, I think not. Although, as someone who prefers to play on my PS5 over my PC, even though my PC is a more powerful gaming platform than my PS5, I certainly would have. This is mostly because I'm a firm believer in playing a dev's game the way it was meant to be played, not riddled with mods, whether aesthetic or not.

Truth is, especially for the PC platform, we can afford to wait for them to finally figure it out. Sony is slowly crumbling and caving to reality. Eventually, they will be going day and date. Xbox figured it out a while ago you see most of their titles coming day and date And now they have game pass supporting day and date for most first party titles. I think the ultimate winner is the PC platform when they finally get past themselves. If they really want to sell consoles, then they need to focus on the console and make it more enticing. Sony Owns Bloodborne, so they Can choose to release it whenever(Demon Souls is still not on PC or any game with the Japan studio's name on it). I can understand Stellar Blade and Rebirth, but Sony gives them an offer that they can REFUSE, but they don't. The companies accepting the exclusive offers are also to blame (not just Sony). Bloodborne is owned by Sony. Nintendo Owns Mario and Zelda. Doesn't own Bayonetta (License and funds the IP from Sega) . Till Mario is on PC, exclusives will probably be a thing

Well. I want to chime in. Sony definitely will benefit if they publish their games on PC day 1. There will always be "console peasants" like myself who will still buy the console. Because I like to just kick back and enjoy my games in the living room after a hard days work, and I'm not the only one. If they'd release their games on PC day 1, their software sales will go through the roof. And software sales are the main money maker here. There are enough gamers in the world who do not want to worry about specs and upgrades every 6 months or a year. And I also like the convenience of being able to carry it around with me while I'm travelling for long periods of time. I can just plug and play in my hotel room or whatever accommodations I'm in. And I don't think I'm the only one who feels this way. What I want is for devs to make the best games they possibly could and sell as many copies as they could, so they could give us more great games in the future. And I'll still be playing them on PS5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or whatever. Sony needs to realize this. Stella Blade is such a good game, that I feel at the very least, the PC players get to experience it for themselves ! If Sony does not want their games on the Xbox, that for me, is still understandable. Because its still a direct competitor console wise. But on PC day 1, I strongly support ! Having said that, I don't like where Sony is heading with all that stupid remasters and remakes that nobody asked for, and also the stupid selective censorship. Sony once upon a time was known to come up with original ips, story driven single player games, and a lot of them were great games. Where are those now ? Games do sell hardware, or did. GameS. Plural. I used to have a rule of thumb: 5 games or more to justify a purchase of a system. My first Xbox was a 360 due to Crackdown, the Halo games, and Assassin's Creed, and I was very satisfied. I didn't buy a PS5 because they barely have 5 games you can't get elsewhere, let alone that I want to play. I got a Series X largely because of the Xbox One library and multiplatform titles. I was planning on a PS5, but now....a PC makes more sense, but I don't need a new one with my backlog. AAA budgets, hardware shortages during the pandemic, and more games staying cross-gen kneecapped this console generation. Consoles basically gave up any of their advantages except for physical media. Which they're trying to eliminate now.

I kinda disagree... because of exclusivity, devs are hyper focus on a single hardware to basically make the game run optimized to the max. You look at games in the PS1, Saturn, PS2, Dreamcast era where there are games exclusive to each console and they highlight the strengths of the platform. Nowadays, gaming devs just rely on crappy gaming engine (cough Unreal 5) to push through buggy messes...

As someone who has owned a PS3 and 4 , I was done with Sony come PS5. too much value in just building a good PC to be bothered faffing around on console. From my point of view, I do see their exclusives as their last selling point that they are clutching so dearly onto, but even their exclusives on PS5 are not enough to win me back. I remember finally having the chance to buy a PS5 at a very good price , then I thought for 2 minutes, what would I actually play on it? And that ended that idea... plus, the whole paying for online functionality just feels so archaic, nevermind the fact they went and made it more expensive. PS4 still plays anything I want from Sony , I'll pick up the SB PC port.

Exclusives are fine when Sony or Microsoft own the IP and the studio owned by them they can do whatever they want with that game however timed exclusive are stupid and we have seen both Sony a Microsoft take part in this act a lot in recent years, Bloodborne is always a sticking point because nobody understands what's going on and the situation behind it Sony owns the Bloodborne IP but they also own 15% of Fromsoft so why have we not gotten a remaster, remake or even just a next gen patch it crazy. In a world with companies competing exclusives are always going to be a thing because it might not sell consoles technically but it will retain a player base and we know PlayStation has well over 100m active users so they are going to try a keeps if not gain more players through exclusives but Microsoft's approach to Xbox is changing because they simply cant compete and have a dwindling player base it will be an interesting next 5 years.

Exclusives sell consoles. No Exclusives = no reason to buy the console. To refute your point about "games don't sell consoles": a single game? Yeah, one game might not be enough to sell a console. But 2? 5? 10? 20? 100? For the majority of people, at some point, there will be an amount of games that you want to play that makes the console a worthwhile investment. Look at xbox, this generation they released every game to xbox and PC. They also haven't had that many good exclusives. They are in a distant 3rd place. Compare that to Play Station who have had awesome exclusives like Stellar Blade, God of War, and Astrobot. The exclusives give people a reason to buy the console and then they lock themselves into that ecosystem. The more awesome exclusives a console has, the more the gamer is likely to choose that console as their default gaming device. The more gamers that choose PS5 as their default gaming device, the more 3rd Party sales Sony make through the PS Store. Nintendo have the weakest of all three consoles. It has still sold way more than xbox because Nintendo also have loads of awesome exclusives.

Xbox owner here, I wholeheartedly agree. Not only does exclusivity hurt the games, but it also hurt gamers. All multiplayer games are inherently better when there’s a larger playerbase. Take Concord, not that we would have played it, but the xbox market could have helped it. Furthermore, if a game is all platforms, it encourages them to make sell so that players buys the game on their platforms (they get a %) and most gamers are buying their games on sale anyway.

News flash...there are only 150 Console exclusive games this gen..only 7 of them being PS5. How many are exclusive to PC? 30,000+. If "exclusivity is killing games"..you better include the PC exclusives which is 50-70 times MORE than console. So...when are we gonna get the 30,000+ PC exclusives on console? ....and, yes..I actually DID MY RESEARCH. It makes sense Sony games would only be on Sony consoles...and Nintendo games being only on Nintendo consoles. How are supposed to sell consoles if all games are available elsewhere?....but PC players want ALL games available on PC....but, console players are not allowed to demand that the more than 30,000 PC exclusives to come to console?

PC's aren't there just for gaming, you can do alot of other stuff on it and whats important to note here is, that you can do all of that stuff alot faster than you could on consols, which makes pc's more popular. The Real question is why would you even bother getting a consol if pc's are just Overall better in the first place? And the answer to that is that you either don't want to spend a certain amount of money which does not make much sence since someone who can effort a ps5 surely also can get a decent pc at some point or you just want to play games and you dont care about anything else and if thats the case you dont have to bother complaining because nobody is going out of their way or waste their time trying to satisfy the people on anything but the superior platform. Im not saying you should not have any games on your consol, the way you are trying to say that to me, but you have to accept that games are made and created ON pc so obviously they gonna have more games, which does not mean i like that, i dont want to have exclusive games in general, everyone should be able to play where they prefer to but it is up to the devs of everygame to decide how much work they want to put into their games and if they want to put that extra effort into making it a cross platform release but at the very least dont lock away games that can already be played on All platforms just because you greed for pushing sales on your own Product in this case consoles. Incorrect, exclusivity has been a part of gaming since inception and has never killed them so far. Honestly without exclusive games there is no point in buying consoles at all. Making every game muti-platform will kill consoles. Nintendo's success is almost directly because of the wide variety of first party exclusives that don't even come to PC. Games 100% sell consoles, many people finally switched from ps4 to ps5 simply because of AstroBot.

Problem is that, we know that PS5 and Switch are winning over the Xbox because Xbox games made less noice. So yeah, there is lot of people that would play Sony exlusivities and Nintendo exklusivities but also still that games keep players on their system. More I was shocked what Square Enix was doing, they had a Final Fantasy 7 remake serie and locked it on the PS system and then made horrible PC port of the first part, like wtf. Also Game Freak is not owned by Nintendo and still making Nintendo only games which is weird.

@@victorwonder The baseline selling point of consoles is that they are a "cheaper" (than PC) way to play and experience games. Exclusives do not benefit consumers, because you have to choose between consoles and decide which "exclusives" you prefer. If you like some of the exclusives on Xbox AND PS you either choose to miss out on certain games, or for a second console just to play a specific game. This is the definition of being anti-consumer. By your logic, if there were no exclusives on any consoles, people would just suddenly lose interest in gaming and not buy them? The competitive selling point of consoles should be the HARDWARE. You know, the actual system itself?

Sony is literally the best selling gaming console company, and I’m pretty sure they know that because they been having exclusive games for years, so having exclusive games aren’t killing games, the only game that I ever liked on Xbox was gears of war and Doom3(I can get Doom3 on PlayStation now) and I never felt the need to ask my parents to buy me an Xbox🤮just for those games, I’ve been playing Sony PlayStation since I was 4yo, and they had and still have by far the best exclusive games ever so I wasn’t missing out, so I don’t see the need for them to port any exclusive games over to other consoles, I’m pretty sure they don’t see that ether, it’s called competition, if you wanna play StillerBlade so badly, buy PlayStation.

There is just too many negative aspects imo like having to pay for PS Plus to play online and getting a new consol every few years it just makes no sence you can play stuff on Ur pc with Controller aswell. They could give away permanent games for free or make deals to let me try out new releasing games before having to buy them. PS3 was able to outshine the 360 in the later half of that generation because its exclusives were able to show how powerful the cell processor can be graphically. Trying to push every game to work on everything reduces how effectively a game can be developed. You think the Halo would've been as good if Bungie was forced to also make it for PS2 and GameCube? No, it utilized the "gimmick" of online play and 4 player split-screen native to Xbox as an exclusive!

PSN is probably the best. XBOX had a few in and out run. P.C. is amazing. Anyway. I got a NES when. I was 5 yrs.old. Super mario. It was a must-have. So I did buy an XBox to play halo. My 1 and only Xbox. I have had every single Playstation. Since day one ps1. I think If want to play Mario. You buy a Nintendo. If want to play Halo you get an Xbox. UNCHARTERED, Last of Us. Anyone can fill it in. BUY a Playstation 5. If you want to the best single player games. exclusive to Playstation is the Giant of the Gaming World. This has been the exact same way for a while. Stellar blade is amazing game. For what was expected, what the company gave . They crushed it. Playstation also has a branch or something called indi-games has companies from all over the world that is how South Korea stepped. Got them in with some of the best content out at the moment.
