BigMisterApple I can imagine 2.0 making a *massive* change to gameplay but the DLC itself? Seems kinda like *"hey, we've added in planet destroying stuff you could do with workshop mods and upgraded the functionality of titans, which you could already get through console commands"..* Personally I dont see any benefit to destroying a planet over just conquering it but i'll still probably buy it for the "fuck it, im starting a new save in a few days anyway" moments
@non49976 жыл бұрын
Dr. Ghoztz I personally like to build tall so blowing up enemy planets makes total sense to me that way I don't have to have random planets that never going to need it's like the DLC was solely made for my playing style.

Dr. Ghoztz they didn't simply just add a planet destroyer they revamped warfare changed from totally changed everything so you can't just go saying a mod would replicate this massive amazing update
@DrGhoztz6 жыл бұрын
Rift31 I'm saying the 2.0 revamp (which the fleet changes are part of) and Apocolypse are seperate things. If you're going for the most efficient method, *you're probably not going to spend 5 years building a planet-killer and waiting for its weapon to charge up..* Its just something you'd do if you're roleplaying or you have the time to kill. The planet killers are just too time consuming and costly to be viable in most scenarios, so i'd expect a few tweaks to how they work.. I've bought the DLC myself because I enjoy stellaris and want to keep up to date with the content but *in my 20ish hours with the DLC I've used very little content from it* outside of adding a few titans to my fleet. Personally enjoy the changes to fleet management and borders in 2.0 though, theres no more of those "fuck you, heres an 800k fleet" moments.

Fun fact! The Romans never stopped referring to themselves as a Republic, they never called themselves an Empire - that’s a thing later historians added. They were always SPQR (the Senate and People of Rome). ‘Imperator’ just meant ‘military commander’, and ‘imperium’ only referred to the area their armies were able to control. The Emperor - or rather the Princeps - was considered a public servant.

"Throwing the baby with the bathwater" seems to originally be a German expression ("Das Kind mit dem Bad ausschütten") that is traced all the way back to 1512. It was eventually translated by the end of the 19th century by Thomas Carlyle, an english historian who was very fond of the idiom. It became widely used and translated more-or-less litterally in many languages from then on.

Technically the empire would still use the slogan SPQR because the senate was still in charge. In reality the emperor had total authority and everyone knew it but the senate was still a part of the administration. Octavian didn't even call himself emperor after he gained control of the country.
@LuizAlexPhoenix6 жыл бұрын
Well, he could call himself Emperor. But getting stabbed wasn't high on his priority list. It's better to hold power than having people resent you for it.
@Meinfuhrerhoffman6 жыл бұрын
Emperor wasn’t exactly a title then. Augustus called himself Imperator, which was a military name which meant ‘commander’. This was largely an attempt at propaganda, as Augustus himself was not really ever a great military commander, but at that time authority derived from who the legions were loyal to. The word emperor comes from the word Imperator. After Augustus it became tradition for the head Roman to adopt the title of Imperator, which eventually became part of the overall title that denoted an ‘emperor of Rome’.
@jwb_6666 жыл бұрын
Technically Rome only stopped being a Republic with Domitian, up until his reforms the "emperors" were just consuls. They were "elected" by the senate and the consulship was hereditary but they were just consuls, which leads to stuff like, Trajan Someshit, elected consul 23 times.

@ghost963cz6 жыл бұрын
The elections were not rigged and not always was the son the emperor. Usually the one who has been elected as the King of Romans ended being the emperor. There were 7 electors and it was possible to be elected emperor by controlling two or more princedoms/kingdoms like for example the sons of Charles IV, holy roman emperor and king of Bohemia, got elected by controlling lands of the Bohemian Crown and Brandenburg, which were both electors. Only when the habsburgs came they stayed on the imperial throne for a long time.
@cmohbdye49786 жыл бұрын
Yes, my bad I didn't specify the period of time I was talking about. Early HRE was pretty competitive in the election part, but in XV-XIX centuries elections in HRE were fully controlled by Habsburgs. Anyway even Stellaris's Imperial form of rule can't show us all aspects of Roman/German hierarchy.

Thanks for getting an episode out so quickly. It looks like Paradox have massively slowed down the pace of the early game. So many examples of this I noted such as making leaders cost 200 energy and only giving the player 100 energy reserve to start with, no quick 2nd science ship and scientist then. I can understand stopping the initial 3 corvette rush but not allowing a 2nd scientist straight away is disappointing. It seems they have made the initial early game much more linear.

You're mixing pre and post Marian reform naming schemes for your ships. Principes being the veteran troops pre Marian and rorarii being an auxiliary troop post marian
@erikbloomgren38586 жыл бұрын
Yes very true rorarii are not the final line of the triple axis. The order goes, hastati, principes, and then triarii (the most experienced/oldest of the troops...aka the final line). Before the triple axis the Romans sometimes had velites with cavalry on the wings. Thus the pre Marian Reforms.

Triarii = spearmen. Deployed on the flanks. Armies had a strict model, tailored to be able to quickly react and change from march to fighting deployment. (Just wanted to add that) Anything ending in "e" or "i" or similar would get another "i" in plural, and the phonetics does sounds like "ay" but it's written "i".

one thing i've thought about in sci fi is how do planets communicate with eachother ( specially if they don't have faster than light communication BUT have faster than light travel) and the answer i came up with is if you have trading ships regurarly come in and out, they can all gather small pockets of information downloaded per trading ship and upload when they reach a point close enough to their destination... burst download and burst upload within proximity! works best when you have a steady stream of trading ships coming in and out of each system. Aspec are Starbases (and starbase outposts? baby starbases?) able to be destroyed or only captured once they have been built by another empire? It was something I thought I heard on one of the dev diaries. Can you verify this? I guess I would find it odd that we can build a colossus that can destroy a planet but not be able to scratch a starbase but I can also see that it might make the game easier to develop and perform so works this way for gameplay reasons. It would also mean that once every system has a starbase then no more minerals are required to be spent on them, removes one resource sink.

I think they should honestly do the technology in an inverse fashion, i.e., they should make it so that as you gain more and more star systems, your technology progresses at a higher rate. I was to make Romans in Stellaris I would make them either: - An empire that survived rise of christianity and never fell. Roman military might would be represented by fanatic militarist ethic or distinguished admirality. Wasteful and decadent species trait along with authoritarian/xenophobic would nicely simulate patrician reliance on slaves and their hedonistic way of life. Cutthroat and aristocratic elite civics would be a reflection of Roman political system. Flag would be completely red with one of eagle symboles or the axe symbol - An empire reformed by Greeks (Byzantines). I would make it spiritualist due to it historically being a buffer zone between Europe and muslim world and association with orthodox church. I would also make it feudal since most of its real life timeframe coincides with medieval era. Flag would be composed of yellow cross on a red background with a double headed eagle as an emblem.

If you want to make Holy Roman Empire then I would suggest taking feudal society civic, a german namelist and a double headed eagle on a yellow background.
