Hi Aspec, started playing stellaris like 3 days ago and just went for it. Not like other 4x games I've played but pretty similar and so I decided to go on KZbin, which I do for most of my tutorials, and found your channel. I'm halfway done with this series and it's really helped a lot. Because of you I actually decided to get all the DLCs except Megacorp which I will probably get sooner or later. Please keep doing guide videos especially when there are huge updates because you really know your sh*t in Stellaris! Kudos to you sir!

Re-watching this after three playthroughs.... And I already diverge from this. First thing's first, I build up the home system ASAP (Science is king this early on). I adopt diplomacy for the reduced diplomatic costs and try to make a friend with someone else (With defensive pacts you can leave your navy to be extremely weak while pumping out colony ships at every opportunity. Very few will dare to attack you since you have friends, who have an actual navy). Then? Secure AS MANY chokepoints and strategic resources as possible. Bonus points for blocking other empires from expanding (Since they have to play tall then you can have yourself several amazing worlds mid-game if you invade them). Throw in that extra alloy foundry and focus one of your worlds heavily into science. Oh, and if you aren't a democracy, try seeing if you can go with marketplace of ideas for quick ascension perks.

Friends? With xenos? Baaaah; although get me a curator and i’ll change my mind mighty quick! I’m a fan of the choke point strategy myself, I’ve been finding myself tight on political influence. Still, it’s research and economy once I set my borderers. I’m in a campaign right now with some DLC where i’ve only got 4 lanes leading into my nation, meaning I’m just building these starbases at hyper speed. Once I have a strong enough stockpile of Alloy, I just max out my defenses and then move on, keeping my fleet light, but still strong enough to deal with pirates and internal conflicts. Then it’s expand, expand until I have enough planets to feel comfortable for the mid game.

Hey ASpec, thanks for getting back to my question and explaining trade! I've played some games now and realized that I have problems deciding when and with whom to wage war at a later stage of the game. Also I find it really hard to get other empires to tributes or sign a migration treaty.. I was hoping you could share your experience on that in an upcoming episode! How do you choose to play the expansions? How do I grow quickly, everyone seems to be able to out grow me, i often find I am short of influence to expand. Is there anything you can do if you don't get planets to expand to in the early game? If my opponent gets 4 planets and i get cornered in with just a couple is it game over for me? Seems like a fun game, but I have a hard time finding out how to do better at it - is there some way to watch/review my games (including my opponents) after the match?

Me a newb to Stellaris but veteran Strategy gamer: Shit how does this all work? Aspec: So here’s everything you need in about 3 hours basic info. Me: Reasonable! And I’ll be yonking that system to make a choke point Asap! To be honest, I use chokepoints to make my empire edges, lowers my number of contact points to a manageable level and I can thereby develop less starports and save credits. It’s basically my main starter goal is to branch out and find the limits of reasonable colonizable space, I got lucky, sealed off four main points. Develop appropriate techs and general economy, build fortifications to spec. Look to who might kill me first; *Sweats at Fanatic Purifier on northern border and looks nervously at my western hyper religious zealots* Ah alrighty then, convince the zealots to buzz off, and shields up north!

2 consumer goods worlds, 1 alloy world, 2 research worlds. 4 mineral worlds, 5 generator worlds, 5 food worlds. There can be overlap between basic resource (mineral/energy/food) worlds, so you definitely don't need 4+5+5=14!!! raw resource worlds to support your advanced resource worlds! But you absolutely need more raw resources than advanced resources. Advances resources are precisely that - advanced. If you try to rush alloys/consumer goods/research/ecumenopolis in the early game, while neglecting raw resources, you're gonna have a bad time. You need at least 2 basic resource units per 1 advanced resource unit. Pop growth is very important until late game, at which point it becomes detriment due to the shortage of districts and buildings. Past year 2400+ you will begin to run out of jobs, housing and amenities for them. You will need some form of population control, as your empire becomes too big for its britches. There is now a hierarchy of resources. Minerals = buildings, alloys & consumer goods. Consumer goods = research & unity. Energy = buildings & ships. Food = pops. Obey the hierarchy, or else!
@Subjagator
@Subjagator 5 жыл бұрын
How I deal with end game pops is build the megastructures that provide energy and minerals and that way you can start to replace mining and energy districts with housing districts and focus on the buildings that provide 10 jobs. If you still have problems with pops then make them into servants to increase productivity or sell them as slaves.

I would say Cybrex, not First League is the best. A Ringworld, in my opinion, is far superior to an ecumenolis as atleast for me, is much harder to make and is much more powerful.
@Subjagator
@Subjagator 5 жыл бұрын
It depends. Ecumenopolis is more usable right from the start. As soon as you survey it you can colonise it and get access to those powerful districts and bonuses. A ring world might be more powerful in the long run but you need to get to mega-engineering and pay the alloys to repair it. So it depends on if you want a free early advantage or a much later advantage that you need to pay for and how you have built your empire.
@robb4566

It is incredibly difficult to shoot up at an orbiting fleet. You are at the very bottom of a gravity well. Is it right to say that trade value equals energy credits? if so then you could go all out on building trade value and just buy all the minerals and food you need
@Subjagator
@Subjagator 5 жыл бұрын
It is not worth it generally. A single pop working a clerk job produces 2 trade value. There is no tech or building or edict or decision that I am aware of that provides bonuses to trade value, only a single pop trait. A single pop working in a power plant produces 4 energy base, which with some techs and the +25% energy building and an edict or two can bring it to 6/7/8+ energy. Effectively triple or more as effective as a clerk. On top of that it goes straight into your economy, it doesn't need alloy investment into starbases to collect it, or fleets to protect it from piracy. In one game I decided to immediately disable every clerk job and never build a starbase for the purposes of collecting trade value and not having to deal with that has made my games much better ever since. I suggest you try the same and you will see how much quicker your empire develops when you can put those useless clerks to work making alloys or researching stuff.

@@Subjagator it might make a good strategy if you do the one planet challenge with an ecumenopolis with all your minerals coming from space and energy credits coming from trade value
@Subjagator
@Subjagator 5 жыл бұрын
@@Bill-2203 I never looked into that particular challenge so I am not sure. If you don't care much about pop efficiency then you can probably crank out a bunch of trade value, I was never saying you couldn't. Just that for every pop making trade value with a clerk job, they could be doing something much more useful or productive instead. A single pop making consumer goods and selling them on the market would make you 8-12 energy for example, compare that to a single pop doing a clerk job making 2 energy. It gets worse when you scale it up. 10 clerk making 20 energy credits; or 10 metallurgists making 30 alloys? 10 artisans making 60 consumer goods? Or 10 researchers 40 of each research? I know what I would put bottom of the list anyway. When you get to end game and have no others jobs available and tons of free pops then fine, better a clerk than unemployed. But I have found clerk jobs to be the least useful and least effective type of job overall
@Bill-2203
@Bill-2203 5 жыл бұрын
@@Subjagator I guess the question is can you get more from a high pop Ecumenopolis with districts devoted to trade value, consumer goods and alloys or a less populated regular world with food, minerals, energy, consumer goods and alloys. It looks like you can get about 3 times as many people on 1 Ecumenopolis planet but trading for everything will just eat up energy credits
@Subjagator
@Subjagator 5 жыл бұрын
@@Bill-2203 Well an Ecumenopolis is a special kind of world so that does kinda change things if you look at it by itself, since you can't get raw material from it you need other planets to support it. But that doesn't really change anything when you look on the bigger scale. Resettling those clerks on the ecumenopolis to a newly colonised mining planet and using that to fuel your foundries on the ecunemopolis will nearly always be a better option than just having them as clerks. Like I said though when you get to super late game so you have all available planets settled and developed and the only thing left is clerks then yes, it is better than being unemployed but I will almost always want to put a pop to work in any other job before allowing them to work as a clerk.

Aspec, I have noticed (I usually play as Commodore or Admiral difficulty) that the AIs start off as 'Overwhelming' power against your fleet in 2.2 and behave much more aggressively with more negative opinion modifiers...have you noticed this as well. Additionally I tried setting the guaranteed worlds to off and upping the habitable planets modifier to 1.5x yet there doesnt seem to be many planets at all and at 1x there are almost no planets. I have tried these on about 5 runs so far so not that much exposure yet.

Can you do a video about military in the early game as I feel like I always focus to much on my economy and not enough on my military and then I just get taken over but I dont know what to do if you have some advice it would be much appreciated.

Focus engineering and Physics trees on weapons, armor, shields, and tech on naval capacity. Starbases are worthless for defense, build 20 corvs as soon as you have tier 2 weapons. Make sure you designed them instead of the AI. You can also make your first 3 buildings alloys

I was really hoping Minerals would become less important in 2.2 but they really haven't. If anything, mineral generation has become more important, not less. I like that Alloys and Consumer goods exist, but the fact they're basically just minerals in disguise is pretty disappointing to me.

It's like riding a bicycle. That has no seat. And flattened tires. But once you learn how to drive it, you won't forget how. Except every year or so devs go "Fuck you, we have changed everything, now you gotta relearn it from the ground up." To put things in perspective, Stellaris is considered one of the more "casual" Paradox games.

@Subjagator
@Subjagator 5 жыл бұрын
@@ivvan497 Because it is a pain to protect the trade routes. Your capital planet or anything in that system is fine but if you are making 300 or 400 trade value you need entire fleets of corvettes to protect it. One game I was playing I had trade routes worth over 1k trade value. There is a very hard cap on how much stations can protect and they can be valuable assets that you might need on the front lines so to speak. In the end you need hundreds of corvettes on patrol or you just get spammed with pirates all over the place. I like the idea behind it but that bit needs to change.
@ivvan497
@ivvan497 5 жыл бұрын
@@Subjagator Just build proper stations. Your capital station should be 6 hangar bays protecting everything within 6 jump radius and then a collecting station at the 7th jump and repeat. If piracy gets too high then just build another station in the middle. That way you get huge protection but dont have to use corvettes.
