when you are colonizing a planet, you can also terraform the world, as it is being colonized. However, you CANNOT colonize a world that is in the process of BEING terraformed. so remember, colonize THEN terraform while the colony is being set up. speeds thing up dramatically

Having one or two extra science ships can save time when analyzing anomalies after having explored many systems. Send the science ship to the anomaly, then transfer the scientist to that ship when they're available. This keeps them from having wasted months traveling from anomaly to anomaly in a single ship.
@kylepessell1350
@kylepessell1350 3 жыл бұрын
I do leap-frogging where I send a pair of science ships in every direction with one always going ahead of the other and immediately researching anomalies whenever they come up. On average, the first science ship will be able to finish its survey before the one sent ahead finishes their own survey. Continue sending the ships one system ahead of the other and follow them with one or two construction ships. This means steady and reliable, albeit relatively slow, progress with plenty of extra resources being accessible early on. It's a slow burn approach but it works really well for a Tall play style. I also tend to just claim systems in lines that snake around to cut off other empires and secure important systems without bothering to consolidate until I have nowhere else to expand. This means I reserve huge patches of the galaxy for myself and am able to cheaply defend myself from threats with strategically placed star bases in a few select choke-points. As long as you avoid provoking the AI too early, this is a guaranteed win even on the hardest difficulties.
@RobBCactive

I spam science ships which I rename so I can see in outliner easily, which need scientist appointments, most of them orbit planets from mid-game onwards helping boost research and levelling up the scientists
@RobBCactive
@RobBCactive 3 жыл бұрын
@@kylepessell1350 but if you have a roamer plus anomaly specialist, then it's betrer to continue surveying, you level that one up fast and he can boost research once the survey period is over. I like the thorough surveyor trait too, frankly it's more enjoyable to have an archaeologist handy too to track precursors. I figure, actually moving a research/military ship involves logistics, so the instant re-deployment of single persons isn't an RP problem I assume they ride with the empire courier service

Greater than ourself should be a standard feature and not an edict unlockable only trough a resolution. At least a starndard edict, no resolution required. Some automation wouldn't be bad, especially for boring and time consuming stuff that a AI could do automatically. Or at least they could make the pop transfer menu better. Everytime I spent more time searching for what I need, even when I manually build on all my planet and I need to find a particular one.
@lunarcultist6214

Yeah, in my particular case the galaxy actively tries to block that particular resolution from going through, even though it would certainly help the incompetent AI in managing overpopulation.
@sotmh
@sotmh 3 жыл бұрын
Seriously, micromanaging populations is the worst element of the mid-late game; the solution to automating it requires limiting your choices for how to play and has to be activated with the consent of the AI. This is one of the most egregiously awful design decisions in the game. Automating tedious micromanagement should be a basic functionality of the UI, not locked behind a resolution with a bunch of strings attached.
@stephenmcorby
@stephenmcorby 3 жыл бұрын
That's why I use the Automatic Pop Migration mod. It's fantastic and I simply can't play the late game without it. You have to pay the normal rate to migrate pops, but it will put them in locations that have jobs. You can set it up if you also want them to have housing. It will also move pops from low habitability worlds to high ones and you can set the habitability rate. You can designate individual focuses for worlds or select preferred worlds to move them to (like a ringworld or ecumenopolis). Overall it's a really great tool that takes what you could automatically do anyway and does it for you to help the gameplay.

6:46 I don't want to be overly critical but since you're talking about optimisations you missed a big one or didn't care about it ASpec. That is Colony Designation [button below "Void Home Core Sector and above Build queue]. It's picked by default by game but it's flawed so you HAVE to pick it manually. You're wasting so many minerals on this habitat. Math behind designation: Foundry Habitat designation lets you save about 58 minerals [pop job upkeep 6 minerals x 48 metallurgist jobs = 288 minerals upkeep x 0,8 (20% reduction from designation bonus) = 230 minerals upkeep after bonus] while the default Refinery Station designation saves you only 4 x 10 x 0,2 = 8 minerals. So effectively wasting 50 minerals on two clicks in UI.

Yes, the AI colony designation is horrible! There's advantage when a colony is small to redesignate before building a batch of things faster and cheaper too. This was insanely helpful! I had no idea about the greater than ourselves edict, the blockers being removed during colonization, or the building categories tabs. Literally game saving. Also your video reminded me of another cool tip that I know! The anomaly you showed as the example, Gray Goo, often pops up pretty early. It gives both an L-Gate insight and access to the first of two techs that increases planet build speed. If you're interested in the L-Gate insight, it's useful to wait till you've found your first one to investigate it. But the really cool thing about the anomaly is that if you've already researched the first early tech that increases planet build speed by 25%, researching Gray Goo will automatically give you the much rarer mid-game tech (I believe it's called Construction Templates) that boosts build speed by an additional 50%. It's a nice boost to get early in a game! :)

If not, you’ll want Man the Guns. To be fair, CKII’s tutorial consist of “here’s what these things do, in bloc text, and we’ll hand hold you for the first couple years and a conquest. Good luck!” No exp with EU4 or Vic 2. Also, Paradox’s DLC racket is freaking ridiculous. Like you’ll think “Oh it’s just 30 bucks to buy the game! Wooow nice! Super fun!” No, the “full” game is probably more akin to a couple $100 bucks. And that’s not including the playtime like Dingo here said. That's a lot of influence just from sparing you from resettle a few pops from time to time. Usually I'm too hard expanding to have that much influence at bay. But thank you so much for the tip for the building filters! I've totally overseen those buttons. And clearing blockers while forming a colony is soo great, I would never thought that it's possible. I really appreciate this high quality content! And as mentioned earlier, you really should set your colony designations manual. It actually pays off to set them right after the colony is founded and before you start building a district as a lot of them include development time bonuses and some even reduced costs for these districts. I also like to get my hands on some habitat/relic world/gaia world as early as possible so that I can have migration treaties with species which prefer other climates. That juicy arctic 25 world with 14 energy districts is out of your reach for your savannah? Well thank goodness when your arctic-loving neighbours want to have a migration treaty with you, now that you have a habitat. Later in the game you don't need that so much with the technology to change the preferred climate of a species. The best thing is that you doesn't even need to transform some of your pops before building a colony ship. Just create a template and you're ready to colonize with them.

Also you can survey with science ships without right clicking every system. Just select your Science ship, click on a command box "survey" from ship menu, hold shift and start clicking systems 🙂. I expand beyond what the starbase (ports) allows, I personally just build black sites where immigrants/refugees or recently integrated population lives. To do it routine, rather than for mitigation appears overly pessimistic. Until gateways, securing trade dictates building starports at the strategic transport nodes.

Thanks, some of these tips were really useful (surprised me with the clear blocker whilst colonising tip). Do you have a video on mid to late game fleet balance/composition? I tend to have lots of Battleship carriers at the back with some Battleship artillery, and the front line has a lot of battleship heavy damage dealers with support from cruisers and picket destroyers. Only use corvs for hunting pirates. Not sure if this is optimal, but it kinda works as long as I counter the enemies weapons/defences.

Another way of optimizing, instead of sending over the science ship with the scientist (that has either the faster anomaly trait, or we are just leveling up). You could swap the leader of the ship, similar to swapping them out for research, but with the ships instead. IE: Science ship discovers anomaly, but the scientist with the faster anomaly research speed is in another part of the galaxy. We change the leader on the ship that's far away to any extra scientist, then change the leader of the ship that found the anomaly to the scientist that we need, and get to work on the anomaly instantly.

Without more details, the only advice I have for you is to check the detailed list of each resource to see where those resources are going to and if there is a negative modifier that is screwing you up, and check if every planet has a positive stability
@manny1085
@manny1085 3 жыл бұрын
One common cause of this is upgrading buildings you upgrade reaserch complexes, alloy foundries, consumer goods factories, etc and then a bunch of your basic workerspops become specialist pops leaving you with a huge deficit in basic reseources.

Could happen because of changes to trade value if some pathways are blocked because of politics (closed borders, war or smth like that) or because of piracy. Happened to me often, one month +1k energy, next month go into negatives. Also energy goes down very quick if you move your ships out of your territory, they require more maintenance.
@TheCarloCarlone
@TheCarloCarlone 3 жыл бұрын
Resources income are calculated at the start of the month, so it may not be clear what action caused the deficit, for example moving your fleet will increase its maintenance. The most probable cause could be building on multiple planets. You have lots of minerals and you are low on alloy, you start building an alloy plant, without noticing that you made this reasoning multiple times. When all the building get constructed they will drain your resources all at once

Great Tips! I love this game but am still looking for a good community to join for multiplayer. Tips from a Noob: Build 3 scientist ships and have them surveying the local cluster of stars as SOON as possible. Have two rush towards choke points in the opposite direction whilst the third working on all the star systems adjacent to yours. Doing so will reduce the risk of getting blocked in if you build towards choke points and allow for greater options when expanding. In addition it increases the amount of anomalies researched as well as allows a secondary group of scientists to be trained up so when they are needed to take over the research they will be of higher level.

You should point out that using the "change scientist" button is usually very inefficient. Rather than doing that and forcing that scientist to travel all the way to the anomaly, just swap the leader on the ship. Click in the ship portrait and then go select the scientist you'd like. Then put the other leader into whatever role they were doing. This is instant and doesn't require any travel.

I always build deep space black sites. When I was first starting the game the faction system annoyed the crap out of me and I figured that boosting support for my government type would fix it and it did. So whenever I colonize a world and build my station I add it as one of the first buildings.

Whoa! The first tip is already great! It fixes one of the worst pains in the neck of the game, resettling. I don't usually play with slavery on (I get the feeling, by looking at the numbers, that it is a net loss due to the decreased stability, and stratified economy already makes the authoritarian faction happy if I have that in my ethos). About the ethics... that doesn't work on conquered pops, only the ones born after you have conquered them. There should be some re-education building, or a, integration center to teach conquered pops the ethos of their new empire. Or some policy like "love it or leave it" that would allow aliens to become refugees if they really don't like my ethos even though I'm not purging them by displacement.

I really like the Black Site for the +5 Stability. +25% Ethics Attraction is a very minor bonus that does little. Also, I can’t be arsed to micro-manage my Scientists. I don’t think the extra effort is worth the benefits. Most of the time, I try park get an Industry expert on Engineering, Computers on Physics, and either Biology or New Life (depending a bit on my plans) on Society, but since I keep firing and re-rolling Scientists in order to get a huge swarm of good explorers, in the first 2.5-4 decades, I’ll often end up with Maniacs or even Geniuses in all 3 Researcher posts.
