Well they want to harvest everything and add it to their stockpiles, occasionally an organic component can be utilized to make the process more efficient.

@@nocx4592 Indeed, this 'determined exterminator' doesn't care about what you are, organic or machine. You are material, and you will be harvested, it has no hard feelings because its literally its designed purpose. This type of AI is called a 'Paperclip maximiser', designed to do something, and then proceeds to kill its creators because it its more efficient towards its job. The admiral was an outlier, an efficient subroutine that would streamline the Harvester Cores capacity to process and harvest more material. They allow him, because they demand it.

The Stellaris wiki is a really useful source of info, and it does seem that you are correct, the strategic coordination centre does, in fact, give a 150 fleet cap increase, a 15% sublight speed and an increase in starbase cap as well. It also adds more defence platforms (possibly) per star base, which would be quite useful in defence.

I would suggest using the mod for the AI, because no matter how early you make the end game crisis appear, all regular empires will be just as pathetic. And if it will spawn at the other side of the galaxy, it will chew through all of the AI without any effort and snowball to the point where it is impossible to stop untill you own more then half of the galaxy. Or at least I expect it to happen that way.

This is a bit late, but I did the math for which is better against the scourge, the torpedoes or the cloud weapons, and the result is that as long as the (unshielded) enemy ship's armor is less than 5 times bigger than its hull, torpedoes are better (not accounting for range, evasion or flak shooting down the torpedoes). With the scourge ships' armor being about twice their hull the torpedoes are about twice as effective in terms of raw damage, and given that the range of torpedoes is better and the scourge has no point defences I'd say the torpedoes would've been bettter pick

I don't get why advanced and completely independent A.I. would desire to gain more power/expand/keep itself online etc. We humans have primal instincts to stay alive, thrive and pass our genes on. A machine has no such motive and a sufficiently advanced AI couldn't be manipulated(coded) into acting the same way.

Most sapience usually comes with an intellectual understanding of threat and self-preservation. I think the collection and utilization of resources for that end would encourage expansion. The more risk calculated, the greater the resources required to match or neutralize threats. Determined exterminators are the most practical of AI archetypes.

The most plausible reason why a robot/AI would behave in an aggressive manner is due to a loophole in the programming. When programming the robots to harvest stuff, you have to be very careful and tell them exactly what they can and cannot harvest. Clearly, the creators of these robots made a mistake and didn't clearly enough put "don't harvest animals/fauna" at some point in the code.

Tempest made me shiver. They made my last playthrough so friggin hard. To summarize, everyone was late to the L-Gate thing. They were kinda far from the borders of everyone (can happen with these bigger galaxy mods I was on a 5000 stars map). Anyways. The Scourge invaded the galaxy and everyone was already in a big scuffle with someone else me included. So of course this idiotic democratic crusader empire goes and beat me to the insights and opens the gate. And it's the tempest. So I am fighting a war on two fronts already. To the south the scourge is aggressively trying to eat me. To the north this awakened empire is giving me trouble. And now there are nano fleets pouring out of the gates to my east and west. After all this, very few empires were still somewhat standing once the scourge, tempest and big ole awakened empires were dealt with. It sent the galaxy back 200 years in terms of territories...Previously owned clusters of hundreds of stars were now barren and full of debris (thank you battle debris mod). It was glorious in it's special way.

Can you do a run like this in the future with very minimal editing? Even if its like 3 hours long, I think it'd be pretty cool to watch, like a marathon type of thing. O:

Live watching your games, has helped me so much. I don’t feel like I’m good at the game, because I only play on Normal/Ensign, no bonus to them. But what I find hardest is the difference to Sectors. Unless I manually put resources in, that I can’t ever get out again, they won’t self develop. But they will, even without a Governor. I just don’t see any point to giving them Energy, they don’t clear blockers.

Also, I tend to use Habitats as Pop farms. I specialize the planets through buildings and whatnot, with the general purpose fast building Habitat Bots, and once the jobs I want are filled I turn off planet pop growth and move on to another few planets to max out, never needing to go back. I just couldn’t use an empire that can’t shift pops around as needed.

I was researching the repeatable techs to the point where a SINGLE CORVETTE was a 1k force ship... Clearly having 200 habitats focussed on research helps a lot. Yeah, 200. AND I WAS PLAYING TALL!!

I seriously thought when you were talking about taking the L-Gate systems that you were gonna say "It's like free real estate." As an aside one of my favorite tactics with the L-Gate system is to use it as a sort of "last bastion" for my species by making Ring Worlds in all systems that don't have nanite resources, a sort of backup in case I get jumped by an End Game crisis inside my own territory.

I am playing through with DE right now too on GA. I think my settings could be challenging for you. 600 stars, 18 AI, 18 advanced starts, GA, crisis strength 10x, midgame 2275 and endgame 2350. I use glavius AI too, so early to midgame, AI is playing very well actually.

Ah yes, the first League's Capital... it is stupidly strong in comparison to the other pecurser's home systems. I too found it with a machine intelligence and instantly replaced my other world's forges with research. :) Edit: Get Glavius Better AI. :)

That +100% Shield and Armor Penetration really makes short work of the fallen empires! Also, unleashing the nanites from the L-Gates while playing as killer robots.. seems fitting somehow. :-)

Play 1000 planet map, 30 empire. I start in the middle upside and everyone is going to war with me. They established 2 Union on left & upward and right & downward. First victim is Earth United, they become my energy. When I start to expand like war with whole side of them. Now I have cleared up and down. The Union still alive and they found new ally member from the other side of map. I will make them into my energy 😉

I attempted my first DE run yesterday and got wrecked about 50-60 years into the run. Things were going fantastic... I had exterminated 2 of the strongest empires in the Galaxy that also happened to be my neighbors. There was only 1 slight problem... There was a custodial gesalt consciousness next to me whose economy and fleet power were superior/overwhelming compared to mine. Everyone except this other robotic empire were inferior or pathetic compared to me, but this SOB circuit board was just better than me because of higher pop growth and he was pissed that I was genociding everyone in his galactic community... So after decades of being in agreements and pacts he broke off and went to war with me and he just wrecked me with his superior numbers unfortunately.

So I just played as determined exterminator and had wiped out every empire except for the fallen empires before 2300. And now I'm just stuck colonizing planets until I reach the win condition for number of planets held.

What mods do you use? There are quite some QOL mods that could be helpful in your playthroughs. One example is the expanded toolbar mod (steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1624314442 ), but there are many more.. Could you post the list of mods you use? And would you want more suggestions that don't harm the vanilla experience too much?
