I always considered Synthetic Dawn to be S-tier because Machine Empires are so unique and fun to play, and essential for a good sci-fi.
@Lukashoffmann942 жыл бұрын
They are only unique in that they are abandoned and forgotten by the devs. Just look at everything since their release and tell me what content a ME actually got. - hasn’t gotten a species pack - can only use 1-1,5 of the last 4 dlcs - got nerfed continuously over last few patches and are only really played as their variants

@Lukashoffmann942 жыл бұрын
@@vaniellys Come again? The machine synthetic ascension is just the normal, nerfed synthetic ascension with even more stuff cut out and nothing there to replace it. DA's got a similar deal with Cybernetic and while they did "try" to replace the removed parts here, they spectaculary failed in the balance department. Crucible Worlds are just worse than a normal planet in every single, concieveable way. And don't even start with the "new" civics. They only get the basic, standard ones, that everyone gets and those don't even get balanced, or tested for ME's. Organic Reprocessing is the perfect example of that. They released the same civic for ME's, without any adaptations, despite ME's having a lower food output than everyone else and they even forgot about the deficit effects. So with the deficit exploit fixed, you now have a completely dead civic. One last question for you to think about: Can you name just 1 UNIQUE addition to ME's, since their launch in 2017, that wasn't part of a mechanics revamp?

@B3RyL2 жыл бұрын
@@alexion2001 It is a relatively niche game meant for dedicated (or "core") players. Of course they are charging a bit extra, because their player base is somewhat smaller than most other titles. I mean, show me a large publisher willing to support a sizeable dev team to work full time on a single title 6 years after release, adding new features, content and major updates, WITHOUT some form of monetization. And no, despite what some overly nostalgic Quake, Starcraft and Red Alert players will tell you, this DIDN'T happen back in the day either - the old-school manual for game dev stated that you'd only support a product up to a maximum of one to two years after release, after which it was assumed that everyone who wanted to buy your game already did, the support was phased out, and you'd move the remaining team to the next project. The continued support was only granted to competitive titles, because the publishers could still monetize them thanks to leagues. So it's never been about "sentiment", it's always been about money, and the product you get for that money. Entertainment is a business, after all. At the very least, here you get what you pay for, and you know what you're paying for, and the thing you're paying for has some actual value in that it adds a bit of extra replayability, AND there's frequent sales if you don't feel like you want to buy on release, AND you can still play the base game with free updates even if you don't buy any DLCs. I'm willing to pay for something like that 100x over some cosmetics gambling scams which cost next to nothing to develop, bring next to no value to the game, require you to gamble away WAY more money that you'd want to admit, and the support for the game is still dropped a year or two after the original release. At least Paradox isn't trying to scam you - you know what you pay for. You don't want to pay that much, wait for a sale. And you still get added value even if you don't pay at all, because of the free updates (which are paid for by the rest of us). Can't go more fair and transparent than this. So stop complaining.

I’d switch Leviathans and Distant Stars simply because the War in Heaven is, by itself, a major game changing event that adds a considerable amount of playability to the game. Distant Stars is great for getting new events, but the L-Cluster is a fickle thing. You either get a challenge, get nothing, or some weird shenanigans happen. Half the time, it’s “meh.” The War in Heaven, however, has a higher chance of popping off and makes the fallen empires do something outside of being static entities that only respond when assaulted.
@ruukinen2 жыл бұрын
I don't know. I've only triggered war in heavens once and I always play with at least two fallen empires. By the time it popped the fallen empires were basically only slightly more advanced primitives to me so I don't really disagree with Montu here.

Hej Montu. You know what I would really like? A series with 10-30 min eps, where you start up a new game with one of the premades and explain the basics of each species/origins etc. I.e. Human, Hivemind, Machine Empire and so on. I THINK that most casual players pretty much only play humans from Earth every playthrough because it seems abit overwhelming to take on the others, even tho we would love to try. Is that something that you could consider doing? Like "How to play: Hivemind" and explain like Im 5, and play for 30 min. So I can watch that, and then startup a game and "copy" what you did kinda. Id love a series like that. Doesnt have to be crazy indepth, just the basics so we can get started and know what to aim for. Thanks!

As someone buying and playing on console, plus not too long got into the game. the DLC are bundled quite nicely and recently got the game+pack 1 and pack 3 for cheap, which happen to have all but one of the S and A tier you have, which definitely add a whole bunch of good replayability but I feel the missing features of better ships, expanded politics, meaningful vassals and so on are quite easily felt. So I'd suggest for anyone with the ability to freely choose what DLC they want to get and when in a order. play some base game get a feel for the game, buy either or both a species pack or story pack to get more of what you've got but fresher, than buy packs based on what you feel is missing or want expanded so example, is the game missing giant futuristic mega structures or do you want more options in combat, are vassal relationships not meaningful enough other than just expanding territory and so on. After that get the highly recommended ones like distant stars or leviathans if you haven't already, than just get whatever you feel like or can get. I think this hits a nice balance for enjoyment curve bcos currently I've played a few games with the DLC I've gotten so far but it's the expanded features that I'm really missing from start to finish for my games so far. Anyway hope this is helpful to someone.

I would say I strongly disagree, but I tend to play militaristic empires: Overlord, Apocalypse, Nemesis, and Federations are all either A or S tier Utopia is A or S tier Megacorp is solid C tier, maybe B tier, I always felt it was kinda mediocre to be honest; the update that came with it was extremely good though Necroids, Lithoids, Aquatics, Plantoids, and Humanoids are all C Tier, they do add content to the game, and can change the gameplay loop a fair bit Leviathans, Distant Stars, and Ancient Relics I honestly don't feel add that much content. I wouldn't have a F Tier, but if I did, they would be in it. From a pure gameplay loop perspective, they just don't add that much. Some of the events and whatnot are cool, but generally speaking you can just play on autopilot and ignore them. Few to none are going to have any real impact on your Empire. -For contrast of my reasoning, Necrophage DOES change how your species and Empire works quite considerably, and builds with just about any expansion, excluding only Synthetic Ascension and Synthetic Dawn. It makes a LOT of RP and Mechanical builds functional. The other stuff doesn't really change the game or your empire all that much (events, which are entirely random and unpredictable). -Overlord, Nemesis, Apocalypse, easily add between the 3 of them, probably the LARGEST expansion of actual game mechanics to the game for the most types of playstyles possible. Utopia does add a lot, even for those that don't play Hivemind, but honestly I'd say you could completely ignore the non-major expansions and be 100% fine. I would say you SHOULD pick up Utopia, Federations, Apocalypse, Overlord, and Nemesis, these are core, massive additions to the game. Everything else is kinda irrelevant and you can more or less ignore. Synthetic Dawn and Megacorp only really improve on those SPECIFIC playstyles. And while I like the species packs, they aren't as huge additions to the game like the main expansions are.

When will they add a DLC that adds Montu or Stefan as advisors? I'd buy it. .... Actually, hold up, are there any mods that do that?
@JoeWrabel2 жыл бұрын
Hey Montu, when I played my first game all I had was Utopia but I was able to build Titans and Juggernauts. I always get a bit confused by what's included in the paid DLC vs what's in the free patch associated with the DLC. Is most of the stuff you discuss in that video also in the patch?

Every single one is worth it just to get the entire Stellaris experience.

Don't have Necro, Lith, Overlord (fuck this shit), Nemesis. So, generally speaking, we are on the same page with only one exception of planetoids. It's totally worthless dlc, but I kinda wanted to become plant as part of my gaming expierence (my room plants holding me hostage, pls help).

Just me personally, but MegaCorp would be F-tier because that was the DLC that also brought about a major fundamental change in game mechanics, many (most?) of which were just to utilize the concept in the MegaCorp DLC. I mean you spend a very long time playing a game, understanding it's mechanics, how to win better, etc and BAM here's basically a new game with the same background stuff. As much as I tried I could not get back into the game at all and quit. That is until recently I decided that I've been away long enough that I wouldn't have the game mechanics hardwired in so hopefully I could learn the "new" game.

I mean you can still roll back versions
@Mike__B2 жыл бұрын
@@Hovstaschack you can yes, but then you lose any of the new stuff that's introduced whether it's races, techs, planet types, or heck even bug fixes

Secret callout ;) . One thing should be stressed more: When you want to play stellaris with your friends, only the host of the game needs to buy the DLCs. Others will get FULL ACCESS to the DLC's functionalities.

I think both the playerbase and the corporate executives have been spoiled over the years, us with some incredible DLCs and them with the sheer amount of money we give them. So I'd have to say, are some of the newer DLCs way overpriced for what they provide? Yes. However they still provide a lot which is then further depreciated by how much other DLCs provide comparatively so they get a lot of flak especially on Steam, despite being quite honestly...alright. I have no solution it's just my current opinion.

Become the Crisis was such a horrible idea. Why do machine empires suddenly become enraptured with conquering the Shroud, when they can't interact with it in any other way? Why is there NO internal pushback against your empire overnight deciding to become omnicidal? Why does the crisis empire use ramshackle ships recycled from the Marauders and space pirates? If the Crisis perk would trigger one of multiple different storylines depending on exactly what empire picks the perk it would be cool, but in the state it is currently in nothign can convince me that the entire Become the Crisis content was hacked together in a week tops.

I disagree with lithoids and necroids being in F. They are solid race packs that add unique ways to build and play your species. They aren't top their but definitely not on par with plantoid.
