They are dumbly overpowered. The Maginot world idk, but to give you an idea, i of course researched repeatables a lot and built planetary defense nexus, it has 5.7 million fleet power composed of around 700 Corvettes defending it. Because you get repeatables techs that allows each time +15% Corvettes, and you can build planetary hangars. At that point where you have a system with 1-2 defense nexus coupled with asteroid artilleries, the system cannot be taken. Maginot worlds are also powerful, never did it in a game but tested it in creative, you can get it to more than 1 mil power very easily. But it can be destroyed by a colossus if they manage to destroy the defenses.

It also reduces job output, but the only jobs affected in your fortress should be your rulers so who cares. In habitats you can still spam trade districts to get merchants if you have the merchantile tradition and the merchants will benefit from the high stability without being affected by the job outputpenalty because trade isn't considered a job output according to the game's logic.

Playing as necroids, having the reanimator civic and smashing a dread encampment on fortress worlds is really a blast. Worth mentioning gigastructures adds more flavor to planetary defenses with the Maginot world and the planetary defense nexus. Hope we get more similar features less overpowered in regular Stellaris, orbital rings are a start but having special districts consecrated to defense would be nice, as well as planetary cannons, to allow for defense that aren't based only on navy, because star bases kinda suck for defending efficiently.

I Play Void dwellers most of all, i usually aim for 7 systems depending on if i find ruined megastructures. And fortress worlds or in my case Habitats is the only way to increase fleet capacity without vassals. I tend to have one system FULL of atleast 5 Fortress habitats that all fully inhabitated equate to around 2-3k fleet capacity. I tend to fill districts with Leisure mostly and enough housing that i have enough housing for every job that habitat provides fully upgraded. That way i get alot of unity aswell. Even better if theres a large planet in that system that i can later terraform into a Ecumenopolis and stuff forgerys into for a lifetime of alloys. I like to take unyielding and Eternal Vigilance, pump the ring and station in that system full with ancient ramparts and hangars/gun modules and spam defense platforms. Have atleast one fleet present in that system at all times, and try to have it on a system that is the only way into the rest of my territory. Its funny when empires with superior fleet power, peace out of a war they started after the very first attempt at taking that system and losing their fleets in the process.

I don't build fortress worlds often, but I do build a fortress on every single planet I own. A few things I noticed, the AI won't invade these planets, they will bombard them. Once a planet is at 50% devastation the FTL inhibitors go offline. The single largest roadblock to stop an invasion is planetary shield generators, the less bombardment damage the longer it takes to reach 50% devastation. The reduction in bombardment damage caps out at 98%, so what I usually do for a fortress world is build 3 fortresses and a shield generator then gear the planet for a basic resource, and only if it gets attacked do I switch it over to the fortress designation.

If a core system has a wormhole then I am going to do my best to control the system that is on the other side of that wormhole and then fortify the hell out of it.I'll fight a war over that system if I have to but it will be mine. Even better if there is another empire close by on the other side of that wormhole and I can either vassalize them or add them to a federation with me. I like to turtle I don't leave holes in my defenses like that.

I always make fortresses around gatewats/wormholes. With a sizeable fleet/shipyards just a few systems away. If they jump in they're screwed.

on my case i built an orbital habitat that has a wormhole . i spam the habitat with stronghold with ftl inhibitors and along with a planetary shield generator, and as an added deterance spam hire army on that habitat (clone soldiers is better because its cheap) 😁., enemy ship may enter that system but they cannot move out and advance basically trapping them 🤣🤣🤣

At first I was like "Hunh, I wonder how they think fortress worlds stand against using fortress habitats", and then you just answered "both, both are good". I'm a fool, of course. OF COURSE! Fortress habitats for slowdown on the fringes as you expand, and then just stack them on a closer central chokepoint as a whole system. Makes sense.

Reducing Orbital Bombardment damage is also pretty big, as it forces the enemy to crack the world or spend a ridiculous amount of time bombarding a fortress world prior to a land invasion. You get Orbital Bombardment Reduction from: * 10% from merely designating the planet a Fortress * 50% from a Shield Generator * 25% each from a perk in the Adaptability & Unyielding traditions tress. Orbital Bombardment Reduction caps at 98%. Even if you only pick one of those two traditions, an 85% Bombardment Reduction makes every siege of a fortress world take ridiculously long.

wow the FTL inhibitor changes everything, Fortress worlds before would just be ignored or bombarded to hell, but with the FTL inhibitor its actually required to attack them and fairly quickly before moving on. Never even thought of that as a method of making planetary defense useful.

@nilshopf4881 Жыл бұрын
One addition: If you tyke Unyielding as tradition for the additional defense, you should also consider Adaptable. Survival of the fittest reduces the bombardment damage even further, so your enemy only will get the minimum through to your planet.

The one problem i have found with fortress worlds is that the end game crisis destroy the space station which negates the planets ftl inhibitor meaning that their fleets can just sail past

Personally, I would be more inclined on that planet to sub out two of the fortresses - one for a shield generator, and one for a holo-theatre, then use the robot production building for an academy once I had full population on the planet. > The holo-theater means that stability and happiness are going to stay higher, which means random events are less likely to screw me over as the planet grows. > The shield generator means that the planet's FTL inhibitor will hold out longer w/o needing as much mitigating civics/ascension perks/unity tree abilities > The academy makes it to where I have a space to build better armies once the planet is done, which gives me more efficiency for my money when churning out fuckhuge armies. That being said, I'm still more of a mind to use just habitats as fortresses, rather than planets. They're faster to fill up in terms of pops, can produce amenities through districts rather than buildings (and, indeed, are not affected in terms of building slots by district distribution), and may be built en mass so that even if one goes down, there will still be others in-system to provide their FTL inhibitors. That allows you to exploit planets for their resources.

You can declare marshal law for maximum stability to ignore amenities. and I’m pretty sure the resource debuff doesn’t apply to trade value so those clerks will be buffed by the stability increase. Additionally, if you go citizen service you can get even more unity.
