“I was fascinated by the vision for Summerhill, and the development aligns with what we want to do at our STEM Innovation Academy,” says Cain. “This location allows us to serve and support middle and high school girls in underrepresented and underserved communities.”
When STEM Atlanta Women opens, services will be available for a small fee; however, Cain’s goal is to offer services to students and families for free with the help of corporate partners like Publix, which will open directly across Hank Aaron Drive from the center in early 2023.
Additionally, Center Parc Credit Union is the presenting sponsor of the Culinary Science/Medicine Program. This program takes a new educational and nutritional approach to improve eating behaviors, focusing on the art of cooking, food shopping, storage, meal preparation, food waste, and sustainability. Culinary medicine is a new evidence-based field that blends the art of food and cooking with the science of medicine. The program will be curated and managed by Chef Matisse Myers CEO and executive chef of the Bernasconi Group, LLC.
“My goals reach far beyond just training,” adds Cain. “I want to have a sustainable impact on the community, from developing a pipeline of talent with skills rooted in emerging technology to helping Black women pivot to new careers and addressing underlying health conditions and health disparities, particularly in underserved communities and in communities of color.”
The grand opening celebration will begin at 4 p.m. in the Club Room at 565 Hank with the ribbon-cutting ceremony set for 5:30 p.m. Speakers include STEM Atlanta Women representatives and representatives from partners Center Parc Credit Union, Carter, Publix, 3Ci, An MAU Company, Delta Air Lines, and Georgia House of Representatives.
