I think some people have shaky hands or need glasses and accidently clicked the wrong button. I doubt there are that many people so jealous of such informative and intelligent instructional videos. I've been working on car off and on since the late 60's and I'm here to tell you Hiram is a rare breed to share his vast experience that others covet and treat as a secret. I admire his openness to offer his knowledge that took him a couple of decades to acquire. It no doubt took a lot of sweat and busted knuckles along the way too, so give the man his due. I have learned more from just watching his videos than from taking class after class learning about transmissions. I only started dabbling in the Automatic Trans rebuild about 10 or 11yrs ago and still don't consider myself proficient. Hiram is probably the best I've seen going into such detail and explaining the different aspects of what to watch for and why. For anyone to click the thumbs down button it has to be accidental. Keep up the outstanding videos Hiram.

Was it that difficult. i can anything. water pumps, head gaskets, alternators, to suspension work. i wanna get into trans work
@MegaDysart5 жыл бұрын
@@DL-qq4nu It's not hard work but it's tedious and there's lots of special tools you will need which aren't expensive but are NECESSARY. Piston compressors, snap ring pliers, seal installer tools, a bushing driver kit and the list goes on. If you don't have a clean work space and take your time and take pictures and take notes and be methodical, you'll lose parts like bolts, check balls, clips, seals, etc. You'll learn real quick that the idea is to work in steps and work on 1 assembly at a time.

Nice work and thank you for sharing. Videos like this are a huge help in demystifying the auto trans. I'm currently contemplating a 1976 Pontiac Turbo 400 that has 35,000 original miles on it and has never been opened. It sat for a long time and slips when it's cold. Gonna build it for a 500+ HP engine.

Your Excellent transmission Videos have caused me to gain confidence and come out of retirement and tackle a few new transmissions like the 4L60E and the 4R75W. I would really love to see a video on the re-assembly of a 4L80E. what I have learned is this one takes many more special tools than does the 4L60E and I know you are excellent at rebuilding with as few special tools as possible. I hope you can post a new Video on the 4L80E soon. thanks again from a big fan in San Antonio TX.!!

One quick question since you do frequent here. I like, and have, a 4l80e to go into my car. I dont like the first gear much but it is a sacrfice I will make. I will need to use 3.73 gears to keep my OD rpms where I want them at 65mph. I want to go 4:10 with the deep, or not so deep, first gear but can not with the .75 OD. Is there a OD gearset I can use to get me a .65 OD? That would/should put me at 2300rpm with a 25" tire

Looking for some 4L80e advise. I have a 2003 Chevy express van, AWD with the 4l80E. There are 170,000 on the van and engine, the trans was swapped out for a junkyard unit at 140,000, unknown amount of miles. While decelerating, from going at any speed, there is a high pitched whine coming from the drivetrain. It's more apparent at higher speeds when you let off the gas. The faster your going, the higher pitched the noise is. I have made sure that all the tires are the same pressure and they all have the same amount of wear. There is no CEL, and other than that the transmission shifts great, no slipping or hard shifts. I'm just afraid it's the pump gears, but wouldn't the gears make noise all the time? I'll see if I can't get a sound bite.

I have a 2003 s10 4l60e that will only go to into overdrive lockup one time when you first take off. After that it will not lockup until you shut it off for about two minutes. It will do the same thing, until you shut it off again and only shift one time. Found out I had a bad TPS, raplaced it with and ACDelco, still no lockup. I accidently left the TPS unplugged and it lockups everytime, just doesn't run right with TPS unplugged. I also found out that the MAP sensor was clogged up, and with it unplugged it will lockup everytime. I had the transmission live drive scanned and everything looked good except that TTC solenoid was off, except for the one time that it locks up on initial drive. My question could the TCC On/Off solenoid be bad even though it worked with these two sensors unplugged. Thank you in advance, your VIdeos are awesome

Awesome, very detailed disassembly video. I'm thinking about rebuilding my 2001 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 which has the same transmission, and installing a shift kit. Are there major differences between a 2001 and a 2006 model 4L80E besides the bushing you noted? Also it would be awesome if you had a re-assembly video of this trans. Main difference I would note at this point is that mine will have a transfer case married to it instead of the tail housing.

Thanks for the great videos! I I lost all gears while driving in the highway 55m/h suddenly. I do have parking locking. Fluid is red no burnt smell. I just checked presure line, unfortunately my gauge is a 1000psi so not the most accurate but I get: P-R-OD-D-2-1 90-70-90-50-50-50-50 at idle. 140-200-130-100-90-90-90 at 1,300rpm Any pointers? If i have pump presure it means input shaft or pump cannot be broken, right? Truck doesn't even try to move in any gear,....broken output shaft? I have replaced trans filter, old was really clogged and had fallen off, but no metal or unusual debris. 2wd driveshaft does not turn, linkeage is good. It feels as it is in neutral all the time; but my presure test seems to indicate manual valve is working, right?
@rafaelhome557810 жыл бұрын
***** Thank you . Could the Presure manifold switch failed with all fluid open/exhausted and the trany think it is in neutral? The shifter is like a rod not a cable, and it is working. This is a chevy 93 c3500, 6.5td. The pump presure also changes as i shift into reverse etc... so the manual valve at least is working some, right?. Any chance I can pull and rebuild just valve body? something telling the forward and reverse clutches not to engage? Just surprise something breaks inside the tranny and hear no noises. I am really surprise that I have no codes; it feels almost like the tranny thinks I am in neutral....really tought the linkeage broke, but it is not. thanks vey much for your help!

Hiram, I am new to this whole thing and not familiar with the 4L80E transmissions at all. First I wanted to say this video is awesome and very helpful. I am having a problem with my 2004 chevy silverado 2500hd and not sure what to do. It grinds when you put it in reverse sometimes and will also sometimes grind whir you are driving, like it is in between gears or something. It all goes away if you hit the breaks or hit the gas a little. The RPM's don't change when it does it either. Other times it drives perfectly. I took it to the dealership and they said there are no codes with the transmission and it all seemed to work fine, but on my way home it did it again. I need help and was hoping you would have some advice. I also know the torque converter is bad because there is a loud whining noise coming from it and from all the forums I have ready they say it is a pretty common problem. Could this be causing the other problems as well, or do you think it would be internal? Thank you for your time!

Hey I appreciate your videos I completely rebuilt my 4 l80e with very little experience your the man. but I have a problem it was running wonderfully for about 2 to 3 months and now when I come to a stop it feels like the torque converter is still engaged if I put it in neutral it's okay but if it's in Reverse or drive it gets a shaky feeling like it's still engaged any ideas?
