I like the idea of cutting the cross member. Save some cash like that. I’m wanting to go from the 4l60e, which I’ve broke twice behind my 6.0 swap, to the 4l80e and was wondering which route I wanted to go with the cross member. I believe I’ll borrow your idea! Anybody have experience with a built 6l80 in a 06 silverado?

I inhaled and about choked myself. These shows have something against radiators and camshafts. They unbolt the radiator and just rip them out, then replace it with an $800 one and bang it off everything in the engine compartment. The cams they try to bang them as many times as they can on the way in it seems like. Like sayin this thing only has to last 18 more minutes and we really don't care at all

You could have put in a built 6L80 for the money, as well. I like the 6-speed for the gearing, especially 1st gear, for off-road. When the 4-speed auto was fairly new it needed time and public R&D, also. You're pushing that segment, I get it. But, the 6-speed offers more performance/economy for the vehicles that have its computer. And a direct replacement.

@@bigman55434 their 4l80Es are unbreakable, and able to handle 700hp/tq from the factory. Their lighter duty stuff like the 4l60e, 4l65e, and any of the light duty tran's were made of glass, designed to be in daily drivers with low torque and smooth power curves. The 4l60e will blow out the 1/2 sun shell with just 500hp, and will strip the 3/4 clutch packs on its own with their 350hp 6.2l.
@bigman55434
@bigman55434 4 жыл бұрын
@@chubbysumo2230 It's torque that kills a transmission, not horsepower. All transmissions are rated for a certain torque input. Never will you find a trans rated for a HP input. Anyway, my point is that GM in their infinite cost cutting wisdom, introduced the fly by wire throttle and torque management so they could make lesser grade components live through the warranty period of the vehicles. Until the last few years, the powertrain warranty was 5 years 100k miles. Now its only 60k miles. More cost cutting. The torque management has made the gas engine HD trucks all but undriveable in the city. My 2008 was a roach. I traded that POS in after only 15k on the odometer. My 2007 wasn't much better, nor was the 2011 that followed. I gave up on GM after my 2013. The idiots that assembled it left out the inner front axle bearing, grinding the axle shaft and tube to bits the first time I went into 4wd.

LTs math was a little off too, the 6L80 with 3.42s is a 13.77:1 1st gear ratio. 1st in a 6L80 is 4.03 or 4.027. Hmmmm. Going to an older platform because it works. 4x4s using powerglides, detecting a theme here. auto engineers listen. Make a platform that works, will hold up, end user serviceable, and can welcome aftermarket support you will have a loyal following and sales will be great. Focus on this instead of a sensor letting me know how far my beverage is seated in the cup holder.

Keep in mind 4L80 was never a half ton transmission. So this isn’t a return to the past in that sense. 6L80/6L90 is a better trans for a pickup truck IMO. Now days there are plenty of build up options for them. I am also pretty sure the early 6L80 was the weaker one. They’ve been known to be quite strong in later years. 6L90 is technically the successor to the 4L80/85 as both were for HD applications.

You want all that in a modern car? Buy a premium car then, not a Chevy. Take an Audi, Lexus or Mercedes SUV apart after only 150k miles, and you won't see the gears stripped off. In fact, you won't see that after 500k. Getting a modern SUV or truck with a big engine and lots of power for a TINY amount of money is bound to get you some mechanical issues, because nothing on that vehicle is over-engineered, it's all "that will do" to keep the costs down.

You need to post the link to the swap harness in your video description. If you have a 2009-2012 Silverado 4L60E it will not have an external PNP switch and will require you to not only buy the switch for a 4L60E, but also the dedicated harness which will run you around $350. Would have been great to have known this ahead of time. I could backhand a few people right about now. 😡

@channell11
@channell11 Жыл бұрын
LOL it does seem they went backwards on this. 6L80s are stout. You'd be better off putting some money into that-or going with a 6L90-rather than losing the performance advantage of two extra gears and having to navigate the computer control issues. And then they went from a 1 piece to 2 piece driveshaft-for a performance truck that's going to limit your top speed.

@AtomicReverend 4 жыл бұрын
@@markiwi956 I am not a GM guy but I believe the 6l80E is a derivative of a German ZF transmission (which I have no idea what ZF stands for)... if that is the case that transmission is used behind pretty much every V8 in the modern world from the Hyundai Genesis to BMW 7 Series to Dodges and Chryslers I think even the hellcat uses it to Ford work trucks, there is a ton of aftermarket support for the ZF... Just a pricey trans to do stuff to but fuel mileage increases are pretty big (look at a 04 navigator to a 06 for a great example for an increase)

@@AtomicReverend ...no. the 6l is junk. You are thinking of ford 6r series. 60, 80 and 100. It is bulletproof. 6r80 1000 hp stock is not a problem. It has the gear train licensed from zf. Like the 6hp26. Lot of gm vehicles getting swapped to the ford 6r80. 6l80 is related to the zf but just not as good.
