One of Richards best shows. He shows a guy from up north with a racer what happened to his brand new rebuilt transmission. That the guy never replaced the seals and locked the pump on high pressure ruining the 1st and reverse clutches and 3rd gear clutches melted holding it in 3rd gear. This transmission even needs new sun gears with one smoked. Richard said they (took a modulator out and jacked the pressure spring up burning the pump up)?

@@jasonbernhardt1613 I believe if the reverse band is slipping then the 3/R clutch is the also in the chain and it's piston had the seal present that reduced the application pressure, and the transmission was providing low pump pressure to boot. So 3/R slipped itself to death in reverse eventually sticking in 3'rd waiting to disengage for first. If you're in reverse, you're applying direct (third) but the sprag's running free because the drum's locked by the band. Ask Richard, I may be wrong. Or just arranging my words wrong...

Just came across your channel...very impressive. One piece of info that you shared was to learn, which reminded me of when I was a young teenager back in the late sixties and working after school hours and on the weekends in a corner gas station, the ones that still had repairs bays and mechanics. During the evenings, a Transmission Specialist who worked at a local Dealership would take on side work and rent one of the bays at the gas station and the vehicle he was repairing would be brought in during the afternoon and aside from attending the gas pumps, I was to prep the vehicle and have the transmission ready to drop when the Transmission Specialist arrived after 5pm. I always kept my face and hands right beside the job he was doing and did I ever learn a lot from him, also he delighted in the fact that I was eager to learn about transmission repair ( wasn’t expecting to be paid to help and did not get paid as he shared his knowledge and skills freely to teach ). His teaching skills were great which made everything easy to learn and remember...which I also find the same skill and presentation in your videos. Thank you.

I’m not going to act like a know even 1/3 when it comes to the inner workings of a transmission. I’m familiar with replacing front seals and tail shaft seals and an input shaft here and there or getting the tranny out of the way to do what I do best on engines. But when it comes to the gears and ratios or the ports or diagnosing issues inside the tranny, I might as well be a green hand. Watching your channel has simplified things and taught me stuff I had no idea about. It’s easy to sit down after a long day and be on your channel 3 hours and not realize. But when you’re watching someone take pride in their craft and having an immense understanding of what they’re doing is mesmerizing to me. You also explain it so clearly and respectfully. Find myself going “ahh okay, now I see” at least once or twice on every video I’ve watched

I've watched so many of your videos and I'm just so amazed at how much knowledge and know how you have when it comes to such a complicated piece of machinery. And it's not as if this is a "one size fits all" piece of equipment either. You seem to know all the ins and outs of any transmission that rolls into your shop. It's so impressive. And not only do you fix them, you improve on the manufacturers faults. Thank you for sharing what you do with the world!

I can just hear customers all over the country saying "Rebuild this transmission proper, otherwise I am driving it to Amarillo and will let Richard of Precision Transmission show the entire whole world what you did and did not do" Richard might not give out the name of the prior shop, but it wouldn't stop the customer from adding it to the comments. Richard is doing everyone a big favor. Proper work requires skill, experience and know how. Richard makes it look easy, but he has paid his dues, advanced his knowledge and developed his own tricks to serve best the customer.

I had a th400 built for a k20 and I got about 30 miles out of it, so I pulled it again and took it to a different builder and he took it apart in front of me and showed me how it was not put back together right. The first guy was a retired transmission guy at a local dealership so I trusted him cause he was a friend of a friend , never again. The second time I took it to a complete stranger and his knowledge was off the charts needless to say going on a year now and transmission is doing great.
