Step By Step Air Bag Module Reset Procedure and Other SRS Related Tasks to Finish Acura Interior

In this video I'm going to finish the interior, including getting the roof and seat airbags replaced after which the seat will get restitched. But the main focus of the video will be the step by step turorial on what is takes to get the SRS module (AKA airbag computer) reprogrammed in order to reactivate the restraint system.

Thank you for making this video! I am helping someone with a car like mine try to sort the issue of replacing their airbag control module, and avoid the $1000 price tag for a new one from the dealer. In our digging to solve this out, we are finding the same thing you mentioned: There is very little information about how this is done... other than your video. Two years after you've posted this up, the websites you mentioned that offer the binary file "scrub" or "cleaning" are still and going. Through the websites, I'm able to learn what EEPROM chip to hunt for on the boards, if I need to reset a module. I'd love to actually discover what bytes in the data dumps are altered to "clean" the files, but I understand that most of the people and companies offering the reset service are still going to be conspicuously quiet about that. For now, I'll be happy to toy with spare vehicles' modules, and dump their "clean" EEPROMs for the future. I'm going to convince my friend to take the same steps to extract and read his EEPROM on his existing controller, and reset it... Or, seek out someone who's handier with soldering, to do the physical work to get the data extracted, then reset! Your video definitely bridged the gap in knowledge on this, and I appreciate that you shared it up for us.

Great tutorial! Can`t wait for new videos from you. Too bad you didn`t compare binary files! I wonder how big are differneces, is it just one bit or more info about crash. Couple words from me to readers about this topic: 1) It is always better to unsolder chip than use aligator clip on it. When we use aligator clip to read eeprom, we put power to CPU which will start reading/writing to our eerprom while we read/write and might brick our eeprom or cpu. 2) Before you use hot gun for first time, practice usage and temeparures on some old electronic. It is easy to fry board and make it usesless. Unsolder and solder back on some stuff and check if still working. 3) After soldering, always check with ohmmeter for continuity between leg and board, also check for shortcuts between legs. Otherwise you might brick board or eeprom. 4) When you get some experience with chips, you will easly recognise key words like 95640 or TJA and will know what they are for. 5) There are plenty of forums like Mhh auto ot digital kaos where you can find eeprom dumps before/after crash cleared. You can try to compare them and apply changes to your own eeprom read.

Love your videos. Thanks for the work you put into them. Any pointers on how to get a 2014 acura rdx reset? Ive sent my srs module off and got it back. Its been installed but my vehicle is having a hard time communicating with the module. ?? Any tips?

Did you try troubleshooting first with a code reader that is capable of reading SRS codes?

@@fix206 before I sent it out I didnt check it. I drove it from utah to el paso texas without the srs module since I had alrrady sent it off. The scanners i have now say they cannot communicate with the srs module. I sent it back to the company that reset it and they said for them it was communicating fine.

Hmm... Hard to say without looking at the vehicle... But I would start by making sure that you have a good connection between the module and the wiring harness plug. I bought a car sometime ago that only had 12K miles on it, so it's a pretty new car. Car was wrecked, not even that bad. But once I trailered it home and tried firing it up, it wouldn't start... Tried checking the codes and got a "Can not Communication with ECM" code, after doing a bunch of troubleshooting and not coming up with anything I ended up unhooking the vehicle's computer from the harness and then reconnected while making sure that I had a solid connection.. And guess what? fired right up !!!

I purchased an alligator type clip on connector for the chip. How do you figure out where to extend the connection points to the programmer socket?

I'm not a fan of alligator clips, because most time you'd have hard time getting good connection with them

I have a question how can I delete airbag light with scanner after replacing module and air bag

As long as all of the components of SRS system are in good working order and are hooked up correctly, once a replacement module is plugged back into the vehicle you should no longer have an airbag light on...

It does for most part, I'm sure there's going to be variation of different chips that are being used with a different makes and models of vehicles.

Welcome to the channel! The only time you ever have to replace impact sensors is if they have been physically damaged as a result of impact. Other than that all of those sensors should be just fine.
