Older vid so you may not see this comment, but if you sandwich the mesh for the cage with two pieces of pvc or wood (wherever you want to run wires through the caging) then punch a hole in that with the hole saw. You’ll have a hole to run wires that won’t have sharp exposed wire, and eliminates the possibility of anything working the hole bigger over time. Jupiter local, love your videos.
@juliereis1466 жыл бұрын
You might want to put the foam around the hole in the cage to. Just so no scratches happen. 🤷🏻♀️ And by the way like you said they are happy and you can absolutely tell that they are because they aren’t running around like crazy in the habit. They were just like “ahhhh fresh air, sunlight..... we love this!!!!! Thank you Kenan!” That’s my rhino iguana impression!!!! Lol 😂
@chefkda6 жыл бұрын
It turned out nice. The rhino's seemed to calm down as soon as you put them in. LOL to blooper clip of Kenan nearly falling from the windmill at the end of the video!!

If you do have stability issues, due to wind or soil movement, try adding tent stakes through the mesh bottom. There are manufacturers that makes stakes specifically for sandy soils.

If you move the warm box outside the cage. They will have more flooor space and the turtles can hang out underneath. Cut and trim the wire for a pass through and your all set.

A good trick I was taught was to pre drill the holes you want to put a screw through. Just throw on a small or thin drillbit and drill the hole you want to put a screw in, this helps to prevent wood from splitting.

QUESTION: I've heard you explain about putting heat pads on the roof or wall so your reptiles don't get burned from laying on it. This heat pad is on the ground, so I'm confused. Is it fine for rock iguanas to lay on it, but not turtles? BTW, I love how this enclosure turned out, it's very natural looking!

I was basically self taught too. I made many enclosures & rhwyve progressively gotten better. A little trick I learned for wires is to account for them in the start & make essentially a small hinged door with drilled hole on the edge big enough for wires but not for anything to escape other than a feeder insects. Honestly, for not being a carpenter your enclosures look superficially great & seem to maintain structural integrity. So if it works ot works.

Loved this vid - you may want to check the spot you cut for the electric wire to go through- it looked like there was a spikey bit exposed, and if they're nutso they may just try to push through that hole and get cut. Also- Did you realize that your house number is exposed in this video? Might make it easier for uninvited visitors to find you.

@jeanetteiacovone19585 жыл бұрын
If you drill a hole just a little bit smaller then the screws you are using you can avoid splitting the wood or cracking the wood the way it did when you hung the first shelf.

Maybe I missed it, but did you do anything to anchor the coop itself down to the ground? The hide box may be heavy enough that it isn't a concern, but given the height and the narrower base dimension, I'd be a little worried about it tipping in gusty wind conditions. Perhaps you could move it closer to the light pole and anchor it to it for some added stability. Just my $0.02... (I'm not a carpenter or structural engineer either.)
@MegaWalt826 жыл бұрын
I greatly enjoy ur video's they fun and informative. U might want to get the power cord off the ground so the turtles dont accidentally bite thru it and hurt them selves.
