I love you guys at Suburban K9 so much. My Dogs trainer was Liliana Caprano here in Philly and she was just a literal God Send. My dog and I have such an amazing relationship now thanks to the fact that there isn’t anymore crazy behavior from him that stresses me out lol. I was even able to teach him so many more tricks because he no longer just ignores me. This place saved me from sinking into the deepest depression of my life because a bad behaved dog can definitely affect a persons mental health. So Thank you Suburban K9 for Liliana and her amazing skills with training my dog. We love you Lily.

Good point Heather! We train a lot of dogs with praise only, but that method is much harder for people to emulate from watching a video. Many dogs need to learn to be motivated by praise but almost every dog is motived by food from birth. The advantage of using only praise though is you don’t have to phase it out like you do treats. Thanks for watching!!!

It's wonderful that you've taught your Sheltidoodle marker words like "yes" and "good boy." However, the association with treats is a common behavior, especially in dogs that have been positively reinforced during training. Here are some tips to manage this situation and encourage your Sheltidoodle to respond to markers without always expecting a treat: Randomize Treat Rewards: Instead of providing a treat every time you use the marker word, try randomizing the rewards. Sometimes give a treat, and other times, offer verbal praise, petting, or a favorite toy as a reward. This helps break the direct association between the marker word and treats. Variable Reinforcement: Implement a variable reinforcement schedule. This means rewarding your dog intermittently rather than every time it follows a command. Dogs tend to stay motivated when they are uncertain about when they will receive a reward. Use Life Rewards: Incorporate "life rewards" into your training. Allow your Sheltidoodle access to activities it enjoys, such as going for a short walk, playing with a favorite toy, or receiving attention, as a reward for responding to the marker word. Fade Out Treats Gradually: Gradually decrease the frequency of treat rewards while maintaining the use of marker words. Over time, your dog may become less reliant on treats and more responsive to verbal praise and other forms of reinforcement. Combine Verbal Praise with Treats: When your Sheltidoodle responds to the marker word, use verbal praise enthusiastically along with the occasional treat. This reinforces the idea that positive feedback can come in various forms. Teach New Commands: Introduce new commands or behaviors and use the marker words for those. This can help shift the focus away from treats associated with specific commands, providing a fresh start for training. Be Patient and Consistent: Changing behavior takes time, so be patient and consistent in your approach. Consistency is key to reinforcing new patterns of behavior. Remember that positive reinforcement is a powerful tool in dog training. By varying the rewards and gradually reducing reliance on treats, you can help your Sheltidoodle generalize the marker words to different situations without always expecting a treat. This approach fosters a more balanced and motivated response to your commands.

I have two puppies. One is a 6 month old Frenchie named Bob, the other is a 10 month old Yorkie named Coco Chanel. Coco started out training very well. She would sit, lay down, crawl, show me her belly, and ring a bell when she wanted to go potty outside. Now she’s stubborn and hard headed! I haven’t really done a lot of training with Bob yet, but he seems eager to learn. I’ve quickly realized that I can’t train them both at the same time. Bob is chill and Coco is super hyped. Do you have any advice for me?
@SuburbanK9DogTraining
@SuburbanK9DogTraining 2 ай бұрын
Training them separately is definitely the right choice! Once they learn all their commands and are doing well it makes sense to start training together, but cover the basics first. How do they do on leash? Teaching a dog to "heel" will make all of the other commands much easier to teach. The idea is that you will have a calmer dog who already understands how to listen and they become a "blank slate" ready to learn. Here is a video showing how to start the heel command. We use a training collar in the video but it is not needed. You can follow these methods with any collar. kzbin.info/www/bejne/epXIeaWZadV2o6M Here is a video on come that will help a lot more than the video you commented on. It shows the process with a dog earlier in their training. Also, it is with a Frenchie! kzbin.info/www/bejne/inmZi4JmgbtqfcU Let us know what questions you have after you get started!

Our dog is a RUNNER, he zooms off and he's fast like a cheetah lol. If we run towards him he takes off. So we walk away from him and he follows us and then we try to catch him from there. We live in an area with townhomes and no fenced yards so we can never have him off leash. If we let go of him he takes off. He does not stay. German Shepard Great Dane mix. He's amazing at following sit and stay in the house. He'll even come to us if we whistle for him but outside he's a different animal.

I train my own dogs and probably 90% of my clients' dogs with praise alone. That being said, it can be harder to train with praise only and there are times that treats make sense. I like your methods better than any I've seen. We spent 3,000 bucks to have our dog trained while she was a pup about a year and a half ago and she's practically ignored some of it now. (no doubt my fault) They taught with the E-Collar and I can't use it anymore. It's too stressful for me. Not to mention I feel like she becomes a remote control dog and I don't want that at all. Needless to say she's amazing with everything except she does take off when distracted. So I got the long leash and I'll be using this method. Thank You so much for this tutorial.

I sence the low intesity. Maybe add a funny sequence where someone gets to test it on you. kidding. But I would laugh.

Funny enough Steve that is on our list! We often have clients practice an e collar on us to ensure they know how to operate it and understand the timing. We are going to shoot a video showing that process.

I don't understand why every video begs for a like and sub. We all know what the buttons are for... when u beg, it makes u look sad and desperate.

How would you like someone to train you that way when you were a child? To me that is not training what you did earlier was training why don’t you just follow through and use the method you just got through demonstrating. Training a dog is one step at a time you start with a few feet 100 feet1000 feet on the same method you just used earlier. This makes no sense to use any kind of vibration or e-collar.

I’m confused by this comment. When did the trainer not follow through? What part of this is “not training”?

The problem with all these type of videos is that they always use a dog that is fully trained and well behaved instead of a newish dog they are working with for corrective behavior. If I wanted to not see any examples of spots where the well behaved dog is sitting there doing WTF they're supposed to be doing and have an explanation givien as "pretend the well behaved dog is not doing what it's supposed to" - I could skip the f*cking video and simply go read a dog training manual. Do this same video over with a dog that has not been trained or is not well behaved.

Half way through the video the dog is tired and not doing anything _ WTF after the YTer spent time off camera wearing the dog out. This is a dumb ass video !!!

🤔 There were no cuts in this video. The dog definitely wasn't "worn out off camera". This video just shows a quick 10 minute training session and explains common mistakes people make with the come command.
