To reuse the salt dry in your oven set on the warming setting, works great

I've never tried soaking them in water. Just the opposite, we usually pat the dry and place them on a salt bed with a salt cover. . We do this outside in the cool spring or fall temps. We repeat the salting process until we get the desired effects. Once, my salted brain son (I love him-LOL) did not remove a minnow from the salt. So, it got stored with salt for about two months. It was hard as a rock and can go in a camping pack or tackle box, long term. We reconstituted it while fishing, I think he's on to something-LOL

You should leave any bait you use in it's natural scent and not soak in any liquid which will remove that scent. I only lay them in a bed of regular salt at 10 or more per layer for several weeks and the scent is still their to attract the species you are fishing for.

How long will they last?

I keep them in the freezer until I use them, so I don't really know. I've kept them in the fridge for a few days between fishing and they seem to hold up just fine.

I buy pool salt in 50# bags at Walmart. There is no iodine and you can save some money on your salt.🖕I store the salt in a 5 Gal. bucket with a lid.

Can you Just straight up, put the minnow into the salt instead of soaking it in the salt brine
