You saved me $400. Got the replacement screen, followed your tutorial, and it worked! I had a little incident where I overtightened the wifi screw and snapped the head off. Had a minor heart attack but managed to back out the broken stump with some tweezers and a lot of patience. So reader beware: those tiny internal screws are very soft and will snap with overtightening! Also reconnecting the battery gave me a bugger of a time, but after about 5 minutes of fiddling it finally seated. Thanks for this great video that gave me the confidence to do this!

Very helpful! Thank you so much. Was able to swap out a cracked screen just now following your steps. One helpful tip is to line up about 10 little bowls or teacups to hold the tiny screws as you go along. They are *miniscule* and very easy to lose if you drop one on the floor and it bounces away. Removing the wifi antenna as you pointed out was indeed very tricky. You definitely have to give it a good tug in the center to unclip the clipped-in bracket. Getting the hinges on the new screen to slide in was a little tricky too. I put the computer on a flat table with the hinge mounts hanging off the side and the keyboard facing down. Bring the screen up at a 90 degree angle (ie, vertical) and they slide in easier. My Mac Air was still within warranty, but the Apple Store isn't sending computers offsite right now (they said normally they could send it offsite and the factory would determine if the warranty covers it for free, or would contact you with a price quote). Since they're not doing that right now, the in-house repair policy says that any cracks are not covered by warranty, so my only choice was to pay for the repair. The quote actually wasn't too bad--$479, which would keep the remaining 5 months of the warranty intact. The bad thing about having Apple do it was the 1-2 week turnaround. A 3rd-party repair shop quoted $650; the main advantage to them was it would be ready in 24 hours. My cost was $364, which was $319 for the new screen from Amazon, plus $10 for the Torx tool set, plus $35 tax. So, I saved $115, and got it done immediately, but I voided my remaining 5 months warranty, vs paying Apple and keeping the warranty but waiting 2 weeks. I chose the self-repair route and have the saved $$ and the satisfaction of doing it myself and learning something in the process. P.S. I would love to know if the new screen is manufactured by the same factory that does the real Apple ones. The thing is absolutely identical from what I can see. I can't imagine how you could reverse-engineer or make a clone of something this complex. It's not like making a fake Ralph Lauren polo shirt.

Just fixed my laptop with this helpful tutorial, with no previous experience other than steady hands! - a tip for other people, make sure you get some decent screwdrivers before attempting, I tried using some cheap ones I found on eBay and if anything they made the process a lot harder and nearly stripped a couple screws! Thank you very much. My MacBook Air A2179 was boot booting and would just show a dimly backlot keyboard and go black shortly after. I disconnected battery and held power button to drain all the energy out and plugged it back together and it booted. Your a lifesaver as I couldn’t find much info on this model. Thank you for the video. I had to redo the steps due to having the Apple logo being stuck after the first attempt. I felt confident in taking it apart and redoing it. I was successful the second time. I believe that I did not have the clip to the battery all the way in. This is why the Apple logo was frozen.

This worked perfectly for me. My only issue was the 2 black screws were ripped (not sure how). I used latex glove on one and T5 (instead of T4) on the other one to remove it. I did the same while screwing them back. Couldn't have done without detailed instruction in this video. This was first time working on any Apple device for me and took me over 3 hours. I almost gave up when I was struggling with the ripped screws.

So I just replaced the screen on an early 2020 MacBook Air A2179 and now most of the keyboard doesn't work? Any ideas? Did I short the Board out maybe? Seemed like a pretty straight forward change. Try recheck all the cables. Replacing the screen should not have caused keyboard malfunction. Sorry this happened to you.

Changing the lcd should not have effect on keyboard lightning. Hmmm... I would double check all the flex cables.

Very helpful. I suggest people use lock tight or something similar on the screws. They tend to vibrate out if you don’t.

On an aside, the local merchants are supplying the display assembly without logo - for those that care. Offshore vendors appear to have the logo. Next time, will consider the bare LCD only replacement which is a much more involved process and a bit scary from first review.

Hi not sure if it's too late for you to reply but you seem nice and knowledgable so I wanted to ask your advice. My screen (a 2020 intel i3 MacBook Air Retina 13 inch) has a 2 inch wide see through stripe from top to bottom in the center of the screen, its a see through blue color on regular mode and on night mode its a see through pinkish color. I can still read text and see videos or images clearly through it. Do you know what this issue is and a possible solution? Is this an issue related to the entire display or is it a smaller issue that doesn't require display replacement?

Try check all your cables again. Making sure they are all in placed properly. Or try holding Command + Option + P + R when startup the laptop. Let that apple logo reboot 2 times and let go holding after.

hey, great video, I followed all your steps and the replacement worked great. The only thing I messed up was when removing the 2 wifi antenna wires from the motherboard - one wire came out of of the gold colored connectors that press onto the board. So my wifi reception is about 1/2 strength. Do you know what these connectors are called so I can get. replacement?
