Hey Cullen just wanted to say thanks for all your videos. I'm not a filmmaker at all, but I record a bunch of videos of my flying to share with my family/friends and I found your channel because I was trying to figure out why my Insta360 X4 videos looked terrible and how I could fix them. I certainly fixed that problem, and learned much more about color grading than I ever intended. I even went out this weekend and shot a bunch of video just so I'd have more footage to grade. So I guess, thanks for all the knowledge and a new hobby!

Man, I watched countless hours of confirm tutorials and still always felt like I was guessing most of the time. This is by far one of the most valuable hour of video I've watched out there. Thanks so much for all the amazing work and time you're giving us!!

Cullen, have to say this. This series is absolutely gold. I almost never can get it live, but super happy to be able to catch up after. I'm a commercial editor migrating from Premiere to Resolve, and the last two videos on this series make up my mind completely on the ditching Premiere. Thank you so much and keep up the good work!
@artgarfunkelsgingerfro2886Ай бұрын
Made the switch a couple years back. Resolve has a steeper learning curve everywhere outside the edit page. Premiere is definitely more pick up and play and I do miss some aspects of it... but happy I switched. Pros far outweigh the cons.

Have you thought about using 4K for your KZbin videos? 4K is much easier to see screenshots of Resolve text details.

This was super helpful to see the conform process from a professional! How would you deliver the final grade back to the client? Would this be a baked file in something like ProRes, or would you also return it in a similar format to XML so the editor can then rebuild it again in their timeline?
@MarkusFinholtАй бұрын
A baked Prores or DNx is normal. They just replace the flattened timeline with the exported video and render. Sometimes they ask you to export the files individually, and you can do so with original file names and resolution. Then they can replace the files manually, or by a folder basis. It just depends on what they need.

Amazing tutorial! but I would like to ask you, the split screen tool in the viewer that we used to compare clips, doesn’t work properly with this kind of project that requires an XML. The power windows become misplaced in this split Screen viewer. i’ve made a bunch of commercials and The round-trip between the editing in the grading works perfect except for that. For me at least it’s an important feature to compare takes. Do you know why is that happening? thanks again for all the amazing tutorials!

Glad this helped! Don't think I'm understanding the problem you're describing...
@adrianoclinquartАй бұрын
@ no problem, it’s difficult to explain what happened in few words, but I’m gonna try it. I’m grading a commercial and I got an XML, resolution is 4x5 with a composition, 2 different takes, one at the top half of the screen and the other at the bottom half. The translation to DaVinci worked perfectly. The problem is when I turn on the split screen mode in the viewer to compare the grading of these 2 takes the Power Windows that applied are showed out of the place that I put in full screen. If I use the PLAY STILL or the WIPE THIS CLIP it works fine. But the problem is that I’d like to see both entire takes. Again Cullen tks for your help and effort trying to understand what I’m saying! :)

@14:25 I understand the concept of not bringing in any graphics or elements when it comes to conforming and getting prepped for color. Maybe this isn't a question for Cullen but for other people using similar workflows: at what stage of the process do you add graphics to your videos? I'm thinking mainly of working with motion graphics After Effects. I have a hard time understanding where the graphics element fits in the master workflow between different specialists on a team. Would the motion designer ever add graphics after colors have been added to footage? Because sometimes I feel that I am manipulating the timing of shots, or even the speed of shots while in After Effects in order to pull off an effect, and once the graphics are solidified, I would want to send over to color once certain footage manipulations have been made. Am I wrong to think this? Please correct or counsel me, if so. I would love a clearer understanding of the workflow between different specialists on a production team.

Hey Cullen I have a question if I have a user that is editing in FCPX and using Sony clips all my media always comes back as MEDIA OFFLINE with resolve how should they send the timeline or should they export a full ProRes 4444 .mov of the whole project.
