Such a wonderful, expertly taught rose tutorial Diane! I learned so many ways to improve my painting techniques, and not just for roses. Yesterday I experimented with my first landscape from a photo I took of the snow on mountains that run along the south end of the High Desert here. In particular I found that painting the shadows of the mountains, and not the snow, dictated that I implore some of the techniques used here! Yes Jules great aha for you. Painting the negative space so to speak is a wonderful technique for snowy mountains. And adding in the smallest touches of Payne's Grey with Titanium white for the sides of the mountains with a slight shadow. Yes, use your rough paper, that would work well also. I do love this Nomad paper I bought last year, its been fun for little gifts, and I think it would be beautiful framed and allowing the rough edge to show. Maybe even tea stained?! I use a couple of water glasses every day. One of my cats thinks I am filling one of those glasses for her. LOL, I really have to keep a close eye on her. I just bought the Meeden portable paintbrush cleaner. I have yet to use it, but I'm looking forward to trying it. If you were going to do watercolor paint on DYI bookmakers, would the watercolor paint eventually come off on the pages of the books?

lol, I do too! I m ust have to change my water at least 5 times. My daughters cat was here for a few months, and everday he would hop up on my studio table and drink my water! I had to make sure I emptied it so she would not drink any of the "cad" water!I just ordered it on prime days, cant wait to get it, thought it would be fun to play with. I use all of their palettes and the two water well, which I love. I did do two tutorials painting on book pages, vintage books, was shocked how well they held up without prep. I framed mine so I am not sure if they would come off, I wouldnt think so, but honestly not sure. Painting on bookmarks as well, I never had a problem.. You can always seal them with a wax, or spray varnish.

Hi Linda, It is a handmade cotton paper by Nomad, I purchased last year on Amazon. Its a beautiful paper, soaks up a lot of water so I used a Princeton Neptune brush which is softer and holds more water. I also had to be careful of overworking the paper because it is so delicate, soft the beautiful texture and surface can get ruined if not careful and too much fussing with the painting.
