Fun fact: about the reclaimed land the video mentioned, a big part of it actually goes to building the "West Kowloon Cultural district" which is going to be a space for parks, green spaces, bike rides on harbour, series of (cultural) art museums, and more.

I took high speed rail from Hong Kong to Shenzhen in 2019. The train station was truly amazing. I ended up spending more time waiting at the station, and going through custom & immigration than the actual train ride.

This video was clearly produced before the trains were operational. There are more videos now, with actual traveller experiences. Of course, all of that got cut short by Covid and the high speed service from Hong Kong has been suspended since.

This is kind of a touchy topic in hk. While the architecture itself is impressive, it is largely considered a white elephant project that serves to further integrate HK into China. Heck, the immigration facilities in the station means that mainland police can legally enforce the law there, which is a HUGE controversy in HK. Not to mention the budget overruns, and suspicious of corruption for Mainland China to gain from.

This mega station, which opened in 2018, is absolutely a white elephant under China's Zero COVID Policy since 2020. It's literally a project that transferred the monetary reserve of Hong Kong to China.

It's a beautiful piece of architecture...but, it doesn't look like a railway station. It looks like an up-scale shopping mall. I would have thought a city like Hong Kong has enough up-scale shopping malls. I'm not saying every railway station has to look like St.Pancras, or Grand Central, or Victoria Terminus (Mumbai), but it should look something like railway station.

A Building where Mainland Law applies over-ruling Hong Kong laws. It one of many that continually stripping away Hong Kong identify. How do you feel crossing a plot of public space but end up complying with foreign jurisdictions? Even an embassy on foreign soil doesn't have that kind of power compare to this building.

That only applies to the mainland Chinese immigration areas which occupy a closed, internal part of the building, for passengers that intend to actually clear immigration and use the trains to travel to the mainland. The publicly accessible areas do not apply.
