In total contrast to his performance in Game 4, Stephen Curry couldn't buy a 3-pointer in the Golden State Warriors' Monday night matchup against the Boston Celtics. For the first time since 2018, the Warriors' star failed to sink a single shot from outside the line, going 0-9 by the end of the game. Despite his off night, the Warriors' supporting cast was able to step-up and carry Curry for a change, with impactful performances from Andrew Wiggins, Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole. Chris Broussard shares his biggest takeaways from Game 5, and what this means for Steph's Finals MVP case.

Warriors have so much talent. I among others fell in love with Boston’s strong defense and how they had to go through tough opponents. But the warriors are super talented and have better scoring. They also play incredible defense. Complete team and have more experience and Kerr is probably an elite coach. The only thing Boston had better was defense but the warriors have eliminated that advantage. I still can’t believe they got Wiggins and Poole. The rich get richer.

I wish someone would have brought up +/- .... Steph had the highest +/- of anyone last night despite his "bad" game. That stat really tells you his impact. He shot terrible from 3 but literally did everything else phenomenally and pulled so much attention on the court. It was clear Boston played different defense to stop him, which worked in part, but only led to others (i.e Andrew Wiggins) coming up big.
@ForeverBudder
@ForeverBudder 2 жыл бұрын
The only problem with using +/- is that some interesting “outliers” exist that come up when using the stat that show its…I’ll say inconsistency and imprecise measurement on impact. Luc Mbah a Moute(remember that guy?) has the highest recorded plus minus ever at +57. He scored 13 pts in 26 minutes with 4 rebounds and 1 assist when his team won by 40 5 years ago. In fact it takes until the 6th highest recorded game before we get an actual all time player in James Harden. Edit:had the wrong year

Broussard bringing factual numbers to crush everybody's arguments! He won that debate easily. But Nick is still entertaining. His take that Michael Jordan didn't have the flu, but was hungover is hot! I love it. Sounds real. Also, Poole & the entire Warriors team practice crazy half-court buzzer shots ALL THE TIME! If you watch their practices, you see it at the end of sessions. They all go nuts with attempts, because Steph & Klay set the tone in practice, with endless swishes. Steph is hitting shots from the walk-in tunnel in the warmups every night! A lot of teams do those longball shots for fun in practice (Bron does it,too), but nobody has so many snipers who actually HIT them regularly! Whether it's net, bank, rim, bounce, roll, whatever...Shooter's touch, still counts.

Broussard right when he said Nick and Wilds was bitter when they said Poole don't work on half court off the back board 3s 😂 Steph literally said in pratice they be working on stuff like that when you on a team with Great Shooters I'm not surprised & Poole hit those types of shots a few times at the end of Quaters you can tell it's something they work on

It's not laughable! Steph carried the offense in game 4. Big difference being down 2-1 and going to Boston, then an even series in San Francisco. Steph had to save the series for the Warriors. Then finally, Boston did what everyone expected they would do, they defended Curry! They blitzed him and double teamed him, leaving other players open to make up for his lack of scoring. I don't know what point Nick is trying to make but it's ridiculous.

Every all time great, but not ever all time great on a bad team can have his supporting cast win a finals game. If LeBron doesn’t play out of his mind in the Finals they win 0 games, they got swept when he averaged a triple double.

No, Nick, you have not eaten enough Andrew-Wiggins-humble-pie. The Celtics tried the “anybody but Steph” defense, and Wiggins added scores on top of already leading rebounds. Bottom line, I don’t think that take after game 2 about the Celtics having the next 4 best players in the finals after Steph has held up at all. Brou, file this away into the spank-bank so you gave it to slap Nick around with the next time he says he hasn’t been wrong in an argument in the last decade.

@@GabrielMartinez-tn8ew not in my opinion. Lebron didn’t change the way the world plays the game like Steph has. Lebron has also lost more finals than any other great player. Lebron also go locked up by JASON TERRY 😂😂😂. He had a super team in Miami and won 2 finals. He had a super team in Cleveland and won one chip. Now he is getting bounced out of the playoffs before they even start with another super team in LA. That’s not greatness. That’s choking. If Steph wins this year he is flush in my head. If he wins another he is ahead of Lebron. Probably why Lebron wants to play with him cause he knows it to.

@@rayfinkle5048 how was the Cavs a superteam ? They not the one who went 73-9. It was bron and kyrie averaging over 27 per game in the finals and love was injured in 2016 and averaged 8 points in the finals. Lakers was a dynamic duo like the rest of the league that year. Not a superteam. All AD and bron, next scorer was Pope with 9 a game in the finals. Only Miami was a superteam. And warriors KD was a superteam for Curry. His first ring he won off injuries to kyrie and move out playing vs just lebron. 2017/2018 was the KD warriors superteam, Curry gonna pass lebron for tying him in chips with 1 FMVP ? Lebron on that warriors team wins 6-8 rings with their players and coach.

@@rayfinkle5048 and you mention him losing a lot of finals but he was the best player in every series expect 2011. In 2014,2015,2017,2018 he averaged 30,35,34,34 and lost. What more else you want him to do ? Curry has averaged over 30 once in 6 attempts and lost once in 2019 when he lost kd and klay for some games. No one blames him but you blame lebron for losing while missing players and being the underdog while averaging over 33 per game ?

@@GabrielMartinez-tn8ew first off Kyrie, Klove, and lebron is a super team. Maybe you didn’t see Kevin Love as one but that dude was a superstar. Averaging double doubles for whole seasons like it was nothing. Second lebronwas not the best player in all of those series. KD was and is better than lebron at that stage of his career. In 2011 he was far superior to Dirk and still got clamped by Jason terry. Yes he will pass Lebron. If curry wins he will have as many chips in less tries as lebron. And when you are the “best” player on the floor and still lose yea it’s your fault. Tell that to MJ, Kobe, Magic, Bird, etc. lebron is still an all time great. But he has not had the impact that Curry has had. Just like how Kobe was great but didn’t have the impact that MJ had on the game.

"A paycheck win"? What the fcuk is Windhorst talking about? Steph, Klay, Draymond, Looney, Poole, Kuminga, and Moody are draft picks. Porter, Payton, Bjelica, Lee, and Toscano are free market pickups and are playing for the league minimum. Andrew Wiggins is costly but no other team wanted him. JOE LACOB IS ONLY PAYING TO KEEP HIS TEAM IN TACK. The first 3 "Paycheck" teams that come to mine are the Lakers, Nets, and Clippers who over the past few years have paid big to acquire some of the league's biggest names. I just lost all respect for Windhorst who is obviously speaking on behalf of other NBA team owners.
