What nobody talks about is...Steph Curry is not a point guard. They list him as that on paper. But the things he does on the court is ALL 2 guard. Comes up the court passes the ball to Draymond and runs around screens all day. Shoots 3s at a high rate. Screens for others and gets himself an open shot. He is an off guard! He doesn't spend the bulk of his time distributing. Draymond does that.

Magic accomplished more than Steph in less time. More rings, more Finals MVPs, more regular season MVPs, more All-Nba teams selections, more all-star appearances. All of this was accomplished in 13 seasons. Steph I believe is going into year 15 or 16. Magic also has the impact as someone who saved the league from bankruptcy in the 80's and he is the godfather of the "big guard" archetype.

The two critiques I would have is one, Steph's propensity to turn the ball over though he's a great at crossing over and transition offense. Second, for as great as a shooter that Steph has become, he could easily be a 8 to 9 assist per game PG as well. His game is tailored more to a shooting guard than a Point but he's still great.

I'm 40 and I got Steph above Magic, I find the generic argument that Curry isn't a "true" point guard completely moot. Steph has literally beat all of these "pure" point guards most of his career. So what, he should basically play traditional (worse?) to fit a mold he already broke? Steph was asked the question, and he chose himself, why wouldn't he? Betting on himself is what made him who he is. Magic is a legend and will always be, not taking away anything from him at all but time marches on, everyone eventually gets surpassed and there's nothing wrong with that. Someone else's greatness never reduces another's.

Is it though? I'd say that Magic has the edge in ability. Magic's a greater floor general. He's a greater passer. He was able to slide into any of the 5 positions if he needed to. He's a bigger matchup problem. He can post up. Magic's more of an alpha male, who'd stand out more in a room filled with All Stars. If there wasn't such a decline of the center position going into the 2010's, there wouldn't have been a massive shift towards 3pt shooters; to which Curry was able to capitalize on (good for him).

@@emmapeel38 With all due respect, a lot of the things you mentioned really don’t have much to do with basketball skills, the only things that you mentioned in terms of skills were passing and posting up If we keep it strictly basketball Steph is equally as good as a passer, has better handles, better at creating his own offense, better at shooting off the dribble, better at catching and shooting He’s a better finisher, better at finishing with his left, better footwork, better at getting himself open, better floaters, better at using the backboard Better free throw shooter, better mid range shooter, better 3pt shooter, better longe range shooter Better crossover, better touch, better concentration, better at getting by his opponent Those are just some of his offensive advantages, I’m not even going to get into defense “He was able to slide into any of the 5 positions if he needed to.” That’s more of a matter of a height advantage not because of skill or ability Magic is 6’9, I would hope he would be a little more versatile defensively compared to someone 6’3 “He’s a bigger matchup problem, he can post up.” Again, this has more to do with height and not skill set Let’s be honest, Steph is far more of a nightmare to game plan for compared to Magic And the truth is, Steph isn’t too shabby of a post up player “Magic’s more of an alpha male, who’d stand out more in a room filled with All Stars.” What does that have to do with playing basketball or basketball skills? “If there wasn’t such a decline of the center position going into the 2010’s there wouldn’t have been this massive shift to the 3pt line, to which Curry benefited from (good for him)” Again, what do these things have to do with actual basketball skills? Curry is a jump shooter, centers don’t have much to do with his ability to score Not only that, you’re saying it the wrong way. Curry is the one that changed the game and forced everyone to develop a jump shot He literally revolutionized basketball So Curry “benefited” from something he was already the best at? If you keep it strictly basketball and not incorporate personal feelings it’s Stephen Curry

With steph’s resume.. he should feel that way… their styles of play is so different and Id say situationally one is more useful than another.. if you need scoring and shooting or already have a great playmaker you pick steph.. if you need a leader, a player to make others better then you gotta go with magic.. if you ask most people if they were to create the best team ever most would put steph over magic because mj and the other players wouldn’t need creation and lebron can play make at a B+ Magic level.. also steph is arguably the only player in the top 50 that is also a top 5 shooter all time (no I don’t have bird as a top 5 shooter)

I'm fortunate enough to have watched basketball for over 3 decades. I know exactly how the NBA was transitioning BEFORE Steph even entered the NBA. Quentin Richardson was taking 8 threes per game in 2005 under D'Antoni in PHX. To put this into perspective, Ray Allen didn't attempt 8 or more threes until the very next season! Steph didn't even attempt 8 threes until his SIXTH year in the association!! So how does he solely get credit for changing the game, which had already began shooting more threes each year before he entered the NBA? The truth is he doesn't!! Sure, they have more opportunities than players from the past, but that's not the argument I'm making. There are positions for a reason. They help set dedicated roles for each player on the court. @@jonashardy9937Draymond isn’t a better passer. Not in the slightest. The reason why Draymond orchestrates the offense at times, is to allow Steph Curry to shift the defense off ball to get players open, and that’s where Draymond gets the OPPORTUNITY to pass to the open player, Steph having dismantled the opposing teams defense and keeping them on their heels. This gives players like Klay and others the ability to shoot shots that they wouldn’t get otherwise. Draymond holding the ball up top can also pull the big man out onto the wings, so GSW can get to the rim more often, AFTER Steph shifts the defense around, which makes it easier for other players to finish at the rim. Draymond is phenomenal in his own right, but that take is false. I’m not sure why folks push that narrative. Steph is one of the top 2 ball handlers in the league (Kyrie being #1). So, he can clearly bring up the ball. He’s also averaged 10 assists in the Mark Jackson era, so he can clearly pass well. Magic's record for the teams he played for is undeniable along with his personal accolades. Looking at Magic's record consists of finals wins, finals loss, and at worst conference finals loss. In saying that Steph changed the game not just with his influence on young kids or players in the league. Even Coaches started accepting long range 3's off the dribble and 5 steps off the 3 pt line. It's insane, Even veterans started to shoot 3's by volume just not as accurate as Steph.

Broussard forgot to mention Steve Smith as a tall point guard who followed Magic at Michigan State.

Magic saved the league but we talkin bout Steph changing the game. Neutralized argument at best.

Him saving the league is completely irrelevant in this discussion. Steph is better

Why didn't these guys play the whole clip.. sometimes Gil just says things.. people wanted to be like magic in the 80's people on the playground were trying to make incredibly flashy passes.. then Jordan came along and everyone wanted then to be like Mike.. steph has changed the game with the frequent shooting of the 3 ball. Look what magic abolished in such a short period of time

To me Steph is a shooting guard not a point guard. The ego with todays players are embarrassing. Hes dillusional to think hes even in the conversation with Magic or a dozen other point guards. Its so disrespectful. I thought he was smarter than that.
