It is also reported that James Harden told investigators his "liar" comment referred to Daryl Morey promising to trade him and then not trading him. I doubt this is true. He was almost certainly referencing some under-the-table agreement Daryl Morey backed out of. He can't admit this to investigators because that could cause further problems, as you're not "supposed" to do such deals.

If he admits it, its not like any other team will grant him the contract he wants anyways. It would have to be a sinking ship thing where, once he fully realizes that the deal won't be coming, that it will be interesting to see how he'll respond.

I particularly hate how Lillard went about his trade request as no matter how he gets warned/punished for publicly stating he only wants one team, the damage has already been done, which they are fully aware of too. Surely just understand that when you sign a contract, nowhere within it will it say you must be traded if you request it. So if your team still wants you, there’s nothing you should be able to do, since the player agrees to the length of the contract

And yet teams can trade you whenever. Which I get why fans support, they don’t care about a stranger’s desires, they just want the best team in their uniforms. The “under-the-table” deal references a deal that would have happened last summer. He opted in this summer, which is a separate thing entirely. I suspect that he and his agent probed free agency and didn’t get the feeling that he would get more money than if he opted into this “cheap” contract.

It’s more complex than that. Daryl Morey almost certainly made an under the table deal with Harden that if he took a pay cut to help fill the team out then he would be given a max extension the next summer. Harden basically missed out on an extra 15 mil per year for 3 years by not getting the max that summer which is a LOT of money so he’s pissed he agreed to the cut but didn’t get offered the max extension THIS summer. Morey didn’t offer it cause Harden was going to leave Philly for Houston but they went in a different direction and gave money to VanVleet which is self interested on his own part too

@@JamesHardenoverKobe He's not only giving up on his team but the fat boy is quitting on his teammates once again too. When you put your intentions out that you want a trade publicly, you're limiting the ability of your current team to get the best value for you. Hence, you're tampering. No one forced any of these players to sign their contracts. Unless they all want to start playing for 1 year deals at a time, then be a man accept the contract you signed. If you don't want to play somewhere for 3 years, don't agree to that. If a player request a trade publicly, the team they're traded to should be penalized in the draft as well as financially.

You have to work for something like 8 years in a row at one club to qualify for a no-trade clause. Being a free agent every year doesn't really work because very few teams have 40M in cap space. He never took a shot at the NBA. I think Morey needs to right his wrong, the NBA needs to have a meeting to renegotiate how they handle matters like this, chill out on trying to strip a player's professional freedom of speech, and a recognize that Harden is reaching out for help in this matter... Fans often forget that this is a group of multi billion dollar businesses. Players are assets (employees), no more- no less. Silver and the NBA have let the "inmates run the asylum" for too long. Owners own, players play, employees work, just like every other job at heart. If the players don't like it, I'm sure they would equally enjoy the financial rewards of accounting or car sales or any other job like the rest of us. They are immensely gifted at playing the game, so play the game. Sign a contract, honor it or don't and go home and be quiet. It's not that complicated.

Yeah these players need to stop wanting the best of both worlds, if you sign a big multi year guaranteed contract you should be expecting to possibly be in a less than desirable situation. Otherwise shut up and look for 1+1 deals

No way players won't keep doing this. Not until the owners come down on them, hard, through the CBA.

Deduct 40-45℅ from the 35M , that is the actual salary these players are getting.

Players this days are weak any little obstacle and they want to switch teams and create super teams. NBA really needs to step in and do something about it because players are getting out of hand with their dumb demands.

Are they going to fine owners for leaking “player available for trade “ list? They have so many issues with players being public about trade wishes but not holding owners accountable for leaked trade negotiations. What’s the difference? In a broad sense, why is a player whose under contract publicly asking Traded not ok but a team leaking trading block rumors for leverage like what happened to Jalen Brown is ok? Who decides that? Hypocritical if you ask me 🤷🏾‍♂️

you think players care how the front office managed their star players? do you think jimmy butler looked at how pat riley got rid of d-wade and said: nah, i'm not going to miami

Lumping Lillard (first trade request and never quit on team) in with Harden ( many trade requests and a quits all the time) is a HUGE disservice to Lillard. Like damn. All the other guys really jacked up the league with all the team hopping 😂

Harden would 100% still have said what he did. These entitled players have got to be stopped. It turns off the fans and makes them look like they don't give a shit about anyone but themselves

Lillard is hurting himself by demanding to go to one team, I know players of the past would have a list of teams, the Blazers don't want to just give him away, having multiple teams gives both parties what they want

Adam Silver has ran the league for a handfull of players since taking over a thriving league from Stern. Stern was probably an "A" hole and did have some ridiculous implementations, fines, and suspensions... and the league wasnt where it js now on his watch IMO

I could never take Harden seriously (once he left OKC) and I still can't. A player who's only claim to fame was that he successfully duped refs during the regular season to give him tons of free throws each game by baiting with fake 3-point-attempts was never to be taken seriously as a "super star".

100k fine. doing a great job adam silver. you sure showed him. the commissioner needs to grow a pair of balls. you are running a business where your guys under contracts arent finishing out those contracts. this is not 2k. every player cant just demand a trade. idc how big your stardom is. teams wont want to sign long term deals with anybody if there is this risk of extreme player empowerment involved. "oh you want a 5 year deal? sorry we dont trust that you will even commit to half that contract. here is a 2 or 3 year deal". james harden will ruin it for other players.
