I’m a 63 year old male. I think I’m just getting started. I’m totally about diving into this space, because it’s great to keep moving and behave like you’re just getting started with your adult life. When I was young my first jobs were dishwashing, food prep, sweeping and mopping etc. Now that I’m 63 I’ve started over again by food prepping, doing dishes, mopping, sweeping and cooking. Some of us are the few are age still working side by side with young people who you can count on to show up early, are consistent and dependable and care about the quality of their work. Mentor this new generation by being the example.

They obviously have not done much research on longevity, there are labs that have reversed the age of many animals and are on the verge of starting human clinical trials to do the same. At 63, you are likely to benefit. I am 73, for me, it will be touch and go. There is a term, they are using... Escape velocity, which means if you can increase your lifespan one year for every year you age, you will be able to just keep going and going. They are talking about, not just increasing your lifespan, but also your health span. You will look and feel younger, as well. We live in interesting times.

I am 70 this year, and mentally still feel like 45! It's crazy that I have a neighbor who's garden I am extremely jealous of, who just turned 82! She and her husband manage a large 4 acre lot mostly in Gardens and orchards... They have one of the most beautiful gardens in the area! Her home is so lovely and clean with no outside help! Meeting her gives me hope.... The crazy thing is: I retired early thinking I would TRAVEL while I still feel like it, but now it's been 8 years and I am thinking wow, my pension is only a 15 year Pension and will it be enough? hmmmm So great topic ya all!

I hear that! I was going to sell my home in Denver and live off some of the income...that's not gonna happen. I refinanced at 3.% when it was still available, took some equity out and can't live anywhere for what my house payments are now. It's a small refi. I think I played the cards as best I could. I have no other debt, medical bills or prescription drugs...I plan on dying healthy. I've been waiting for the election results. If the cackler gets in I'm moving out of this sanctuary state. Generational households have to come back. Assisted Living Homes don't always suit older people well. Younger people are missing out by not accommodating their parents as important members of their families into one home. Some do it very well. Unfortunately, too many don't. Had my aunt and mom not taken in their mother in their mid twenties, we wouldn't have grown up with a grandma in the two different households. As a result, she had a bedroom in each home, helped raise the forthcoming six grandchildren, and we would have missed out of having a grandma close to us in heart. She lived to be 95, had shared with us wonderful memories, and cooked for us lots of meals.

At almost 70 I can walk 3 miles in a hour. But I have never been fat, I only run if someone is chasing me. But my knee and hip are still mine and no pain but I changed to a carnivore diet 10 months ago, normal BP, no margarines, sleeping 7-9 hours nightly. I worked and owned and started 6 business from age 23 to 50. And I would rather live outside the USA where my $$ go farther than go back to work. I am busy everyday doing what makes me happy and content. I am a minimalist. Move with only a carry-on and a back pack. Live in the moment. No worries. No debt, trust my intuition and soul to guide me. I beginning to limit my time on social media. Using my iPad for learning new things and looking for my next destination. Gone back to reading real books from the library. And looking for community housing where I can have a small private living space with a community kitchen, pool, hiking trails near by and shopping by delivery. No car needed. With hiking and maybe travel buddies. No one knows how long we will live. Don’t let fear or worry be your guide to great decisions. Stay out of debt. Pay cash or don’t buy it.

I have family here so I really don’t want to move to another country. But I would like to travel. I am also doing the carnivore diet which I really enjoy and it’s easy and fast. Food is getting so expensive so eating this way is less expensive than paying for Dr. bills. Years ago, my doctor wanted me to be a vegetarian because he was. I went to vegetarian cooking class for two months I about lost my mind. There is no protein in plants, even though he thought it was a great diet. I went back to eating meat and I am feeling so much better. I still like to work out. I have a yard that I take care of, but I also like to enjoy the rest of my life doing what I want to do. Thank you for your comment. I appreciate it. ❤

We need to go back to taking care of our parents, family in their old age. I love Edlers, My grandparents lived til 94 and 89 and were of more support than my own parents. I was also a Certified Nurse Aid taking care of old folks in their own home as a companion. They are dying to get OUT of the house yaw'll, these folks have ALL DAY to talk to you, someone, anyone that needs them and an honest conversation! Some I took care of were not old but had conditions that made them wheelchair bound but they still need to live a life but most can't drive. One lady used to want to go shopping, she would take me to nice lunches since I was her companion / driver and she LOVED interacting with someone instead of being in the Assisted Living Facility. She was a rich spicy Latina woman and the facility just wasn't her cup of tea! she lived down the street from her family and they were all wealthy (even the lady in the facility) ......so not sure why they can't just have a caretaker take care of HER in THEIR home??

I just went through the assisted living thing with my father. Let me tell you how this scam works. Because they can't get you to sign a lease for obvious reasons they make you pay a community fee which ends up being the commission for the commission only sales people. This is the same BS as the membership fee at a gym except in this case it's between 5 and 10 grand. If you sign right now and 1 minute later the resident dies they keep the fee. It's truly disgusting and because the person you're working with is getting most or all of this fee as compensation they will never waive or lower it. I was about to put my father into a home but they wouldn't address one of his major issues so I didn't see why I would pay. He died about a month later so I'm glad that I waited but it was a nightmare. America is going to collapse. Every person will need elder care because our toxic food supply will give us all diseases and cognitive decline. There will not be enough people to meet the demand as this work requires 24 7 attention. It's incredibly hard and it pays very poorly. A nursing home worker can expect to make 20 per hour. Plenty of less difficult jobs pay that much.

Many times young people act as though getting older is a disease, but You only have two choices die now or live your best life and get older. Life is MUCH BETTER when you are older because of the wisdom you’ve acquired. Also, you will develop a simplistic view of things that frustrated you when you were younger. 22:08 This is one of the best ideas I've ever heard... (and I learn a LOT)... My mom is so frail, I help take care of her... and my neighbor, who's a nurse, saw me walking in from my car and I had been crying about the idea of putting my mom in a nursing home because I just didn't think we could help her enough... and I told my neighbor that she said "Don't do it. They all end up with "mysterious" bruises and it's a nightmare for them".... I know a lady in her 90's who was forcibly taken from her home and put into a nursing facility and what she told me about it was just devastating to hear. I also know a lady who works for medicare, and based on how difficult it is just to take care of my mom, ONE person... the amount of people this lady needs to care for in a day, I'm 100% positive is not physically possible, unless you're just steamrolling through these old people who are so frail, who need to be handled with care... This idea to make a facility where they go for what you said like a revival... what an absolutely wonderful idea... I love that so much ❤

It only works if you can actually pay employees the proper wages and not cut staff, not cut costs, supplies, etc. Most nursing homes eventually end up under certain private equity firms or are in area where there are massive nursing shortages, which is where this all goes wrong. I don't see this business doing any better then the rest of them given enough time - it is often predatory and abusive regardless of the intentions at the start.
@zipauthorzipauthor7867
@zipauthorzipauthor7867 Ай бұрын
Not sure what the exact idea is here. Sadly, most people in such homes need help with their day-to-day needs. They can barely walk or feed themselves. If someone was capable of doing this or anything out of the ordinary for that age, they wouldn't be in such a facility, they would be able to take care of themselves and then the idea would equal to a training camp for elderly. If it is about reviving frail people at nursing homes, then it would be a medical or a rehabilitation intervention. Maybe Steph could elaborate. 🤔

Step One: Stop using the phrase "old people." Words have denotations and connotations. That phrase is accurate denotatively but the connotation is terrible. Old cars end up in junkyards. People toss out old couches. People prefer new over old. You immediately turn off a group of people who were the Woodstock group, the hippies, the wild and crazy surfboard kids, the people who moved from no phones to smartphones and who now are living longer than those before them. Just cut it out. I just finished 1.5 hours of strength training and cardio. My arm muscles show. Now I'll sit down to work on some website dev tasks. I have two businesses. I swim weekly. I have a quarter acre of property here that I maintain myself. I have a huge vegetable garden. I am 72 years old. I have no health problems, aches, pains, or anything else. I don't even have wrinkles! So please just cut it out!

I worked in the Intensive Care Unit for 12 years and want to share few thoughts. People are definitely living longer but a significant portion are dealing with several chronic diseases that directly affect their quality of life. So we need to differentiate between living longer and living well longer. The real question becomes does this improve society or are we just creating a sub-group that healthcare professionals can over-order and over-charge on test that won't heal their current condition. IMO the entire system needs to fail and then from that collapse will bring new era where the focus becomes internal healing thru self love, self worth which results in self healing instead of just ordering pile of pills they need to take twice a day.

Assisted living is not a nursing home. The level of care is completely different. Yes, people die in assisted living. No they do not take alzheimer patients or anyone who cannot walk 6 ft on their own. They are usually tethered to an independent care living facility which brings people in starting at age 55. Assisted living is located in another wing of the building because these people need more care, with nurses staffed 24 hours. Often time they will end up needing to move to a nursing care facility. I was a sales agent for a community, even independent care people die. There's a lot that goes into this besides contemplating how lucrative this business is. Where I worked a small hospital style room cost around $6k a month. Our community was highly sought after. My grandmother should be in assisted if not nursing. She still lives at home with my uncle. She has a care giver come in and help with showers and getting dressed. There's more of a need for caregivers since COVID than anything.

Steph says there are less entrepeneurs over 50 starting companies. Not sure what she bases her statement on but according to an article in Forbes: "the ‘batting average’ for creating successful firms is rising dramatically with age. …a 50-year-old founder is 1.8 times more likely to achieve upper-tail growth than a 30-year-old founder. Founders in their early 20s have the lowest likelihood of successful exit or creating a 1 in 1,000 top growth firm.” Now maybe the sheer number of people starting companies at or over 50 is less (less than what?), but the likelihood of success is far higher.

In English I hear it pronounced with the accent on the e, but sounds weird. This sport, like pickle ball, is easier than tennis which allows anybody to play. There are pro tours now and there is a goal of making it an olympic sport, but there aren’t enough national federations yet (I guess you need to have 30 or so). Finally, it not only has a wall that you can play against in the backs of the court, but also on the sides. You basically play in a box. The dimensions are such that 1 tennis court fits 3 padel courses.

Sugar, in form of fruit though some are higher in “natural” sugar, have insane health benefits. We just go way too far with some of these concepts..BEEN THERE, DONE THAT… I think those of us who stay on top of the “lastest and greatest” can make ourselves a little bit crazy grasping at the latest data set…best advise is workout moderately (Dr. Attila) eat organic Whole Foods, sleep well, drink less or not at all and DESTRESS (talking to myself) as well as enjoy the connections we have…going to these extremes for “better health” made me kinda sicker in my quest to “fix my gut”..just a cautionary tale of going to extremes…

An assisted living “revival” facility is impossible in the U.S. The government regulation prohibit them from having enough control to provide healthy food. My mom is fed seed oils, hot dogs, no fresh veggies, and the fresh fruit is past its prime. They seem to have to use certain approved food vendors rather than making everything in house. Think of the school lunch program but without salt. And my mom is in the best, most caring facility we could find. The place is wonderful except for the parts the government gets involved in. They have to do covid tests all the time and mask. There is no way they could do anything out of the mainstream because they’d get shut down.

If I truly had the money, this wonderful idea would happen, realistically. I’m a nurse, families are looking for the best out there for their loved ones. Nursing homes are understaffed, we can barely get the medications delivered properly and timely and give compassionate care they deserve. However, Assisted Living would be easily converted to this idea with added whole body education and healing. There are physical therapist in the nursing home facilities but they only see the residents 3 times a week for less than an hour per week per insurance requirements. I believe radical ideas are necessary to shake those things up. The funding is the only problem. Nursing homes barely have enough washing machines working proper, decent towels that are not wore out, nutritional meals/snacks, medical supplies and staff, etc and they already charge outrageous costs to the families who eventually lose their homes because they are signed over to the facilities for collateral. Things need shaken up. I’m a compassionate nurse, I did not send my mom to a nursing home. Nutrition and exercise are key.

Adidas is subject to mispronunciation because people are ignorant of the origins of he name - without any punctuation, and common usage, it is easy to think that a certain pronunciation is correct. The name adidas came from the founder, Adolf “Adi” Dassler's name. He used his nickname, Adi, and the first three letters of his last name, Das, to create 'adidas'. or as the Germans would say Adi - Das... always go to the source material or country of origin to get the pronunciation correct.

Great discussion! Female listener in my 40's 😁 🦋 It’s exciting to see you two talking about these topics. I’m currently developing two projects I’m passionate about. One focuses on AI-powered women's health apps that support women through different life stages, from puberty to menopause, with a holistic and personalized approach. The other is a platform for aspiring entrepreneurs, like myself, who are balancing life with kids while building something meaningful. Looking forward to seeing the future of this evolving conversation!

I was an RN and retired in my 50s. I am shockingly hearing more and more nurses in their 50s being let go-so if you bc a nurse just don't think you might work until the day you want to retire. I am figuring in our 50s we make more, nurses coming out of school they can pay $20 dollars hr. less, so they retire the 50s and bring in the 20s.

Having worked in healthcare, I am intrinsically familiar with the cost and care level of the elderly. $10,000+ a month is not uncommon for average care. Unfortunately, as healthcare businesses are making their 20%, the facilities are mostly short staffed. This negatively impacts the care level of the elderly. I always recommend that it is best to be cared for at home. Yet, this is not possible for many due to expense or family dynamics. Laws have been establishec to improve this situation but more needs to be done.

My first thought when contemplating a business like these is liability insurance. So mom is in your new assisted living home for 4 months, she gets pneumonia, goes to the hospital, is released back to your home & dies 3 days later. Now the grown son & daughter are suing you. It seems the risk is awfully high.

It's not accurate that lifespan is increasing. The reason that the stats appear that way is because we are seeing fewer and fewer premature deaths before the age of 50. Since those people are now living a normal lifespan it is consolidating life expectancy which is why it looks like it is increasing.

This young lady is terribly misinformed. Seniors drawing their social security benefit pension (that they worked all their life to pay into) does not in any way affect her or any younger person’s ability to draw theirs when the time comes. It does not change or affect the amount that you are eligible to draw. The suggestion that the younger generation is “taking care of seniors” financially. Yeah, no. That’s not happening sweetheart. Just wait until you are there and you will understand.
