There was actually a study on this. The people that were shown most swiped right on on dating apps were not the women that were the most objectively attractive. It was the ones that swung 50/50 on reviews of beautiful or ugly. They were very polarizing. So beauty is not about perfection or being objectively attractive, it’s about unique essence and draw. Yep. The 'standard peak beauty' nowdays seems to be some sort of AI looking mannequins. Imagine if everyone looked like that.. Its quite freaky. Now that I think about it, I think that standard is coming from those 'otherwordly beauty' types. You know like those model-like or doll-like looks.. yes maybe that is the standard beauty for many, but personally speaking, I don't find that to be the standard beauty. Sometimes it's a little too uncanny valley for me so I am drawn toward beauties that are more natural and warm.

Yes, it definitely has. I try to stay off of it because I start to hyper focus on my appearance which is very unlike me, and I also don’t want to be like that. Just scrolling through IG, it bombards you with beauty gurus, and I look at them thinking, “how tf do they look so incredible on camera”? I don’t understand. I only have a few good angles. For the most part, I photograph terribly. On the other hand, I have people compliment me nearly everyday in public, so I just need to focus on real life and not worry about fantasy, aka social media. People curate and project the best versions of themselves 🤷🏻♀️ also, beauty is not everything. Everyone ages, and those people who’ve only ever had beauty as their “strength” will have nothing then.

I think it's also really important to embrace the way that you look because everyone is going to age! So if you are chasing perfection you are ultimately going to fail, because time comes for us all. It's so much better to spend your time learning to love what you do have and also learning to find value in other aspects of yourself, because beauty is fleeting for all of us. I was considered very ugly when I was younger , and then went through a phase where I was considered very beautiful and at the end of it all realized that there were some advantages to nobody thinking I was pretty. I naturally focused on everything else about myself. Because I had to and I didn't have pretty to fall back on. Suddenly being thought of as pretty became this thing to keep and maintain and worry about. Which is silly? I know. But I had never had it before and I was worried about it going away. Turns out it eventually goes away for everybody and you are left with whoever you has made yourself into in the meantime. We live in a world that is extremely focused on our outer beauty. And I think we would all be better served. Trying to focus on ourselves in a more holistic way

I was going to add the same applies to men but the comment above mine already mentioned it. It's why actors in the MCU and many mainstream ones seems so boring as they all have the same generic pretty look to them. And it's the reason many supporting or character actors become so successful, as their unique features work so well when casting secondary/villain/everyday man characters. I wouldn't have mentioned Bradley Cooper or Chris Pratt as I personally find they fit the former category: basic good looking white boys. Give me Willem Dafoe or Walton Goggins any day over all the pretty boys in Hollywood, hands down (the exception being Timothy Olyphant 'cause he's awesome 😄).

Same here! Especially growing up I have an older sister and two younger sisters who people thought looked prettier than me. I was always compared to them and considered the ugly sister. Now I'm trying hard to embrace my imperfections. I always thought I would get a nose job if I could afford it. I have considered, I am unique, and I don't want to be a copy and paste type of woman.

I'm genuinely confused right now. The concept makes sense in discussion, but what confuses me is literally you and every person you showed a picture of was beautiful? Not like, "girl next door" but truly stunning. This world really does pick at the fine details, and the funny thing is, it's all fine details. This video made me realize how these standards infest even the individuals I perceive to be gorgeous or "untouchable".

I stopped comparing myself to everyone else after i got this idea somewhere: my face is a gift from my ancestors. When i look at the mirror, i'm not just looking at myself. I'm looking at thousands of people who have been long dead as individuals, but still very much alive as fragments in me. And not only in my facial features, but everywhere in my body: from the shape of my nails to the size of my feet, and in complex qualities such as my sense of balance or the sound of my voice. Maybe even in my personality traits, like my shyness in crowds. I am them and they are me. This thought fascinated me so much i stopped wanting to have plastic surgery at some point, i refuse to look like something i'm not. I might never know who my ancestors were, but the best way to remember and honor them is to love and accept myself as i am.

It's important to be reminded that nearly all the people who fit current beauty standards did so with non-genetic help. The aspect that blows my mind is that surgical modifications are apparently not enough. Even women who have had their bodies and/or faces overhauled still wear shapewear, have professional hair and makeup or personal trainers, and yet REMAIN dissatisfied enough with their image to face/body-tune their posts and paparazzi photos. Looking that way in and of itself is a fulltime job. The more Stephanie Lange content I watch the less it looks like a rewarding one. Thanks, and keep up the amazing work!

Cosmo, Teen vogue, etc. We ALL would try out makeup at Sephora, only difference back then is a lot of our parents banned us from wearing makeup until we were like 15, and we didnt have step by step how to guides on youtube for any look we wanted. Plastic surgery was already normalized, people would photoshop their myspace pictures, magazines edits etc. Its just more widespread now + social media is quite a bit worse @@magicalmarion

"You dont have to be pretty to be worthy" This helped me a lot on my own body acceptance journey. I have a big not so pretty nose. And when i started my self acceptance journey i thought "my nose is pretty in its own way, its gorgeous". And when i admitted my insecurity others would also say its a beautiful nose. But then i realised that when i said that, i wasnt actually believing it. I think its an ugly nose. So why am i lying to myself? Thats when i realised that self acceptance is not about making yourself believe you are beautiful, it is about seeing yourself for who you are and loving your body for what it is. Which made me say: my nose is ugly and that is exactly why its beautiful to me. And that helped me so so so so so much more in realising that lying to myself that im pretty is counter productive, and being honest and accepting yourself is the only way to actually love yourself. I am Hilde, a beautiful girl with Beautiful eyes, pretty hair, A nice friendly face, an ugly nose, some acne, dark under eyes, a gorgeous smile, a soft voice and a feminine but petite body that barely has boobs and a little bit of extra tummy fat. I am beautiful, i am not even near the beauty standard. I have some ugly features, but that doesnt make them negative features. I am proud to have them. I am proud to carry this body in all its honest glory. Love you all. I hope you all will feel the freedom of being able to be ugly unupologeticly, because an ugly feature is still a positive feature. Now I’m a mom and my baby girl is very beautiful, I’m grateful for her, but it hurts when people (and believe me, it’s not a small number) approach me and compliment my baby and then proceed to tell me that she’s a spitting image of her father, or that she doesn’t look at me at all. Heck, even a month ago when we dropped my mom at the airport, a woman had the nerve to tell me to my face that my baby was as pretty as her grandma, and this woman had a baby girl too. Doesn’t help that my mom is a narcissist, and loved the attention. Anyway, it’s hard to not yearn to be pretty.

Great! Actually, the feel for beauty and esthetics is not an inborn or natural trait to most people. It’s learned and taught. We follow trends. During Victorian times in England, there was a period when it was considered very beautiful to have blackened teeth. Imagine that?! Today it’s tattoos. However, studying art and literature opens our mind and senses in the ways that people who only follow trends can never understand. But, then, you apply that knowledge to your life and you realize that - yes - all along you thought your grandmother was beautiful because of certain features that were unique to her and also in the way she related to you. That’s where the beauty is, when you can actually feel it.

I modeled for 10 years. It's not about being pretty, it's about having a look. I did pretty well, and I have narrow eyes and a wide mouth (very unproportional facial features). It was so weird to me when my husband told me he thought my face was a 10/10, because I thought it was one of my weaker areas.

can someone become a successful model by looking 'average'?
@lh8df8 ай бұрын
@@skulkrr Yes, even borderline ugly. First of all you need the body, you must look like a hanger so the clothes hang on you ( which is why so many models are thin and tall ). High fashion houses also need an interesting face, which means you can have ugly facial features which stand out in some form.

Girl, you are so necessary! I've always had these thoughts that being unique and totally different from other people is a huge privilege that life can give you, I always think so with myself. At school I always see my friends saying what surgeries to do to modify their appearances and get closer to the pattern of digital influences and I have no desire to modify myself to look like others, for example I don't think my nose is beautiful but sometimes I feel good about feeling ugly and sometimes unique and not having to undergo injections to be just someone accepted by society and it's okay, this can also mean that I can have the truest friendships not only by my appearance, although many have the Appearance as a first impression

I cut my lip open when I was 18 months old and have a pretty prominent scar to this day that has stretched wider and wider until adulthood. This makes it impossible to apply lipstick evenly, and at first when I was in my late teens I considered trying to get it reduced or something. I’ve honestly been struggling to this day with wondering what I should do about it, and all my friends and family told me to keep it. But this video makes me feel unique because of my scar. It’s not really considered beautiful, but it’s definitely striking. It’s a good conversation opener. It’s a part of me, and I don’t want to lose it :) Thanks for the eye opener!

You might enjoy reading "Precious Bane" by Mary Webb. It's an old novel about a woman born with a hare-lip in Shropshire, England in the 1800's. You don't have a hare-lip, of course, but you might relate to her feelings none-the-less. It's been my all-time favorite book since I read it when I was 22 and I'm 62 now. Best love story ever!

I think you have some good points here. I think authenticity will be more and more looked up to again, especially after the last 20 years where "everybody wants to look the same, be the same, and have the same stuff" etc. Uniqueness will be looked at as more valuable - same as Artificial Intelligence art was fun the first months, but unique handmade art will always be more valuable BECAUSE it is handmade. Also taking back nature in interior designs such as stone and more woods are trendy again, and also I miss phones with these button-keyboard (I'm only 30 but still).

"Oh no I'm not a pos, guys, I'm totally nice and SOO relatable!". The fact that this isn't one of those young, naive influencers but a 35yo woman promoting this behavior is disappointing, to say the least.

My husband and I were just talking about this. We’re both in our mid 40s. We said that all of the actors that are our age that didn’t have surgery, are aging the best. How ironic. It is scary how the surgery girls all look the same. And how young they are when starting. I think a lot of them will have regrets later on. You can’t reverse any it.

Exactlyyy. this is also why not a lot of actors are suitable for period dramas anymore, bc almost everyone in hollywood ends up getting some sort of plastic surgeries and their faces wouldnt even have existed in another century which is just saddening. Thank you, Stephanie! I needed this fresh perspective. I inherited the large Asian cheekbones from my mom's side of the family, and the European nose from my dad's. My eyes are also a weird shape because they're half Asian, half European. I've always thought I looked ugly, even when many people have called me beautiful or "model material." I want to be able to embrace my heritage and not be ashamed of my features.

I agree with what Stephanie said. I am also borderline ugly. But when I style myself accordingly, I am apparently quite interesting (not beautiful, interesting). And being interesting can sometimes work miracles traditional beauty can't. Taking care of your hygiene and wearing what makes you like yourself in the mirror (no matter how cringe or uncomfortable it is) is the key, in my personal opinion.

Thank you for this video! you hit the nail on the head! You are absolutely correct, it is 100% the unique features on our face that make us beautiful and interesting to look at. And it breaks my heart that social media and influencers have normalised removing these features and making everyone a carbon copy of beauty standards. I also struggle with my face confidence and facial dysmorphia. Sometimes I see myself and feel pretty, but most of the time I think I'm ugly. We need to change our mindset as a society as to what beauty is.
