The reason why I love this so much is because the position you have when you throw the hips up and have the leg controlled.. well that could be a perfect position to attack a heel hook, everything is set up and the heel is ready to be grabbed and twisted, also the way she throws her hips up means that the opponents knee is right in position too, just another little trick you guys might wanna try:)

Hmm, I'm 6'3" and I typically roll with smaller guys, due to the lack of larger guys at our dojo. My butterfly is actually fairly decent with a about a 30 degree distance from my nose to the floor with both knees touching the ground. I think it might be just my inexperience with the position in general. I think I just need to devote some time to working with x guard instead of trying to pull it off once in a while after seeing some pics/vids. Happy rolling! :)

Hey Ms. Kwok, great video. Although you're obviously a far superior grappler than I am, I actually know two other take downs from a similar position that might be interesting for you. Also, I would humbly suggest picking up that ankle after the take down (as I often do) and immediately transitioning to an achilles leg lock or heel hook (I like the former more). You can do that in the standing position as well if you secure the other leg (I stand on the thigh if I'm fast enough).
@1ma4ighter12 жыл бұрын
I tried this actually, but I get mounted, my sweeps and attacks/defenses are best played out in half guard so i guess I'll stick with pulling half guard. . . .at white belt people always think I've given them the advantage, they prolly think "he's a white belt what does he know?" but i'm really starting to like berimbolos and i have a load of half guard sweeps, people rarely see coming because i always fake before i do anything

X-Guard is great is you're small and compact. If you're tall with long legs then X-Guard feels very awkward, at least it does for me. When I've tried to employ it (especially with smaller opponents) I've had to manually stuff my legs into the 'X' position. I dunno, could be a flexibility issue on my part.

Apparently this is an old video, so questions might not get answered here. The natural reaction from being grabbed on the left arm and sliding under them, would be to drop their weight on their left knee pinning you. From there, you're at their mercy as you're entire body is pinned, and their right arm is free to pummel you.
@yernurakmuldiyev54997 жыл бұрын
if he does that, she can turn to her left shoulder and transition to sliding heel hook. Palhares does this all the time, shoots single leg, pulls slx guard then he makes transition to heel hook.

@@yernurakmuldiyev5499 Yes ... because we're all roided out, stump built, adcc lvl bjj grapplers. Such a dumb comment.

@@GalryZ Your comment is the dumb comment. By your logic, you also shouldn't try the technique in the video because you're not a female 2x world champion black belt. Palhares' transition can work for people that aren't Palhares, it's not magic
@GalryZ5 жыл бұрын
@@Matt-fw3ws Do you have the numbers of the heel hooks attempted in UFC on a year by year basis? Do you know the success rate? I do. You won't even bother to look for it. So...why bother even replying to me?
@Matt-fw3ws5 жыл бұрын
@@GalryZ as of march last year there were 12 successful heel hook submissions in the UFC, slightly higher now after Ryan Hall's fight last week. That's not the point though. The point is you dont have to be a "roided out, stump built, adcc lvl" grappler to heelhook someone. You've dismissed the technique outright on the basis that you're not identical to Palhares which is ridiculous

Hi! Nice video! I have a question tho. What if your opponent tries to recover his balance by bending the left leg and dropping on his left knee, trying to keep his back sort of straight. I haven't tested this at my dojo, yet, so sorry if that turns out unpratical, but I think my instinct would be to close the distance and control the opponent with my knee, or attempt to. Also I expect a Judo guy to be alert and ready to counter a Sumi-Gaeshi, which has a very similar setup.

I always learn more from watching women and 135lbs grapplers. If a little guy can pull the technique off on a bigger stronger opponent, all the more better on someone same strength and size as you.

It takes away your opponents size advantage. A larger opponent will have a big advantage if direct takedown were the only option. Even if you are same size, you want to avoid your opponents strengths and capitalize on their weak points.
