Seeing it in a tournament - PRICELESS! That is really selling it man!

I just trained this sweep in our school yesterday and I loved this move right away by its simplicity and effectiveness. I only had some problem then because It was quite hard for me to manage to place my foot on my partner's hip, I couldn't flex my legs enough then. But this trick about walking the legs through the opponent's back really made my day now. It surely makes things much easier! Many thanks! :)

got the set last week. Stephan I have to say this is your best set yet. So many details not just for smaller grapplers, but for big guys as well. I vote for more from this "little guy" LOL.

Great technique. What's the purpose of the foot on the hip? Is that to help with the hip bump in the face of that downward elbow pressure?
@notoriousquinnb8 жыл бұрын
I'm a really crappy purple belt who is out of practice, so take my answer with a grain of salt please. I believe moving your legs up uke's back and then placing the foot on the hip allows for much better leverage and ability to fight the downward pressure on your hip. If uke is larger than you and really trying to keep your hip pinned down you'll need all the mechanical advantage you can muster, and climbing your legs up is almost like compressing a spring. You'll have more power to lift your hips, and your leg is also in a position to fight the arm framing your hip in an indirect way once you place the foot on the hip. If your guard is low against uke's hips, you'll struggle to do much of anything against that sort of posture and control if uke is larger and stronger than you.
@Wisstihrwas8 жыл бұрын
Hmm im white belt, but i assume (from closed guard arm bar), that the foot on the hip helps doing pressure ond the ellbow, but also avoids the opponent from pulling his arm out at the right moment (like one of the most simple armbar defenses).

does it make any differeance if i do the exact same thing without using a leg on the hips, so if i keep my guard closed??
@beeshubluke12 жыл бұрын
You need that leverage to turn them over most of the time. That open leg works as the pendulum.

why sweep when you have the arm bar though? seems perfectly in place.
@alphadelta29549 жыл бұрын
Storm Holloway - If they're staying low and putting weight into you it's going to be hard to get the arm but the sweep is perfectly set up.

@iamtheman58411 жыл бұрын
my question: why would you need to go for that sweep if you can end it with an armbar right there???
@CollarSleeve9 жыл бұрын
iamtheman584 if you're competing, you may be down on points and time is running out, you may miss the submission. but if you sweep, you get two points, and win the match (or at least tie)

+Martial Art That's true. This isn't going to allow you to pick fights with groups of people when you don't have any friends. Keep looking man...
@PartyVibesxD8 жыл бұрын
+Martial Art That's why out in the street or wherever, you do your best not to go to the ground if you can help it. You never know, like you said if he's got a few buddies with him or if he's got a weapon on his person. This technique isn't exactly for self defence.

PartyVibesxD Start boxing a group of guys with knives. Post the video of you beating them and I will agree with you 100%
@PartyVibesxD8 жыл бұрын
I do practice Jiu-Jitsu, so I'm not bashing ground techniques they're a lot of effective ones out there. It's just personal preference for me to be on my feet instead of the ground in an altercation. Have a good day :)
@thelister49108 жыл бұрын
PartyVibesxD No, because I'm not dumb enough to think that's what makes a good martial art. BJJ works, period. There are too many videos proving it. You can add multiple opponents and weapons to the mix to try and make it look like it doesn't work, but the truth is no other martial art will be able to handle multiple armed attackers...
