The 9 Questions To Ask A Man BEFORE You Marry Him❤ What are your sexual and emotional expectations and desires? What is his vision of success? Who will be a bigger priority, me or your Mother? What is his relationship with money? How will we handle conflict? Do you want kids and how many? How does he view his and your role in this marriage? What are the top three things he needs to be happy and satisfied in this relationship? What are the deal breakers? (Ex: physical changes, emotional, living situation, other external family situations, substances, beliefs, etc) PS: If you're reading this I pray you receive the highest form of love. You deserve the best.❤

We've been over all of these topics already and I know without a doubt he's the one. He's my soulmate. 110%. We've been talking for about 10 months now and never even had sex yet. I've been celibate for over a year after leaving my cheating ex-fiancé. He's been celibate for over 3 years after a tough breakup. He's very mature, confident, masculine, sweet, thoughtful, intelligent, wise, emotional, empathetic, he doesn't watch p**n or masturbate, I could go on and on. We share the same beliefs and we can talk about pretty much anything without offending each other, especially race since he's a WM and I'm a BW. We know each other's sexual desires and talk about them all the time. We're waiting until after marriage (which is the best decision ever bc it's building up our sexual energy). We both disagree on premarital sex since we're both serious about the Bible and obeying God. We talk on the phone for at least 8 hours a day then work and focus on bettering ourselves when we aren't talking. He chooses me over both of his parents, so I'd say he's the one.

Going in-depth with all these questions you've listed (which my pastor wrote for me as a suggestion in premarital counseling class) in 2019 December just weeks to our wedding with my then-fiancé made us realize that we had both been scared of having these discussions, examining our relationship and finding out just how incompatible and unequally-yoked we were.One of the hardest things I've had to do was call each and every guest to cancel the wedding 2 weeks to the day (my mom helped me a lot with this) . Years later am still eternally grateful we broke up and set each other free, we were both hurt like hell but it was clear that we had completely different needs and expectations going in . Better a broken engagement than proceeding blindly or with doubts.

These questions are great and we will be talking about this this weekend 😁 😊 Update: He was surprised at the questions and the conversation went well, it brought us closer and he gave me a key to his house and said I should come over anytime, even if he's out of town for work.. A lot of mothers see their sons as their emotional husbands. what they lack in their romantic life, they want to get it from their sons. and when the son is wealthy, doing well in life, the anger grows cause the mother wanted to have that kind of lifestyle and feels she should be living that life with that kind of man

I've always said, "My man's family will always be his family, BUT once married, I will be his PRIMARY family." I think once you're married, one of the main things men sign up for is that they're vowing to make their wife their new priority and they don't realize that sometimes. He should ALWAYS have respect for his family. His family, however, need to understand that they no longer come first. The wife does. As long as his parents, siblings etc respect him and his wife without having any input in their relationship, there shouldn't have to be situatuons where he has to pick and choose between them.

The mother question was a good one! Fortunately I love my man's mother and there's a lot of qualities in her such as the way she loves and is so caring and selfless, that I see in him. She and I have a great relationship! Honestly if he put her first, I'd probably be right there with him to help if needed. However, I have friends who are not so lucky in this case and HATE their man's mother😬. That disconnect does affect their relationships. One thing I will say is it was my goal to develop a relationship with my man's parents. And they noticed and appreciated that and welcomed me with open arms. My friends did not even attempt that with their man's mother's. Call it old school but I'm a strong believer you marry the whole family, not just the man and vice versa. The relationship with family is just as important.

Another thing to ask is about sickness and health. I knew a lot of people I’ve cared for over the years that were married and the minute things would take a turn for the worst dealing with their health they would immediately be put into a long term care facility while their spouse would remarry someone healthier with full functioning bodies. Would someone stay loyal and dedicated to loving you and caring for you through sickness and health?

Interesting…the weight gain thing really IS a thing. For example, my exhusband is and always has been mildly obese. I have always been very skinny. After the birth of our daughter I carried 40 extra pounds, which still put me in normal weight BUT heavier than HE expected. I would have never thought to ask him a question about my weight and it making him lose attraction because of his own weight issues. I was stunned and very hurt. I lost the weight but ALSO lost respect for him.
@jamiejackson1780

There’s definitely a DOUBLE-STANDARD in regards to physique when it comes to what’s “acceptable/attractive”. I would have said, “Hey Babe, let’s lose weight together!” LOL Just for the SHOCK-VALUE @ the mere thought of you suggesting, mentioning, or addressing the fact that he was indeed a bit over the average weight standard for his height as well… One eye-opening quote that I have embraced is “women marry, hoping he will change & men marry, hoping she’ll never change” 🤨 THIS QUOTE MADE THINGS CLEARER FOR ME… Forgive him, for you though 💕👑
@j-may
@j-may 3 жыл бұрын
@@jamiejackson1780 I agree except I never expected him to change and his weight never bothered me. Personally I take personal inventory of my heart and body and I don’t need any person to micromanage me …so this is how I lost respect for him. Losing weight together did not appeal to me because I stick with my appearance and knew that the 40 pounds was temporary - while HIS weight was constant (due to actual laziness). I have forgiven him. This podcast simply reminded me that this question (about weight) is valid and due to my lifetime (I was 36 when I had our daughter) of physical fitness and healthy eating…I thought he would understand. I was wrong😂

I'm 40. I was married for 15 years. Divorced and took a break for 5 years. Was in my last relationship for a year and a half. A lot of the questions Stephan points out are things that I wished I would have asked in the beginning stages of my last relationship. He had a very dysfunctional relationship with his mom/no boundaries. So everything was always my fault. Her son did nothing wrong. Ever. Toxic. 🏃🏃🏃 He was the type of just "chill and let things happen". No goals, no aspirations. Thank God I found my backbone and kicked him OUT.

Same here. My marriage lasted 23 years until my son’s (my youngest) high school graduation. We could have gotten through all this with a little work, had she honestly tried. My ex waited until our youngest became an adult. Very intentional and contrived. Although it takes 2 to tango, and there was no justification for divorce in our case, expecting a man to read his wife’s mind for the part that bothered her, was a but too much in the expectation department. If you set your spouse up for failure (especially without looking in your own mirror) you will set yourself up for disappointment (excuse) 100% of the time. Sad, but true…

Wise and wonderful points made Stephan!From my own experience I would add when discussing financials to include looking at your future partners bank and credit card statements. Sounds invasive but if there’s nothing to hide there’s nothing to hide. I met a man dated him for three years we got married we had kids and he was not the person that he showed me initially. I would suggest if you want to avoid that happening, to look at their credit card and bank statements before you marry them because what they’re purchasing and what they’re buying and what they’re doing before they’re married is who they are and they will continue to do all of that while you’re married. And some people are really good at lying and telling you want you want to hear.

It’s been my homework for some time to write these things out anyway. What an awesome headstart! 2Then the Lord answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. 3For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry. 4“Behold the proud, His soul is not upright in him; But the just shall live by his faith. Habakkuk 2:2-4

About the debt part, it is indeed very tricky. My ex husband was not honest about the amount of debt he had, and that put so much financial struggle into our marriage. With time he even got himself more and more debts, so much that we end up divorcing, it was financially impossible to me to be sustaining the house and the relationship like that, specially because my income was very low. I wish i had seen all this before and avoided the marriage in the first place. I still havent recovered financially from it, and its been 3 years already. Man and women should really think about what caused their SO to have that amount of debt in the first place, maybe its not a good reason, and the person could pile other debts on top of the old ones.

He said we can buy a house together after I was finished with school. I told him I'll have a lot of student's loan debt and will not be able to buy one for awhile, in addition he would have to gain alot of equity in his first house or double his salary to buy another. He claimed he promised her before he met me and that I should see him as a man who keep his word. So he went and bought his house with her and I went and bought mine and walked away. That was the final red flag 🚩 of many. Best decision I ever made.

Your 3rd question for marriage was addressed very much correct. For a women to question the relationship of a son/mother, is correct to a point. For my views, a son should take care of his family 1st, but the wife should view her husband/family 1st, now just as she value her mother/father, so does that husband with his mother/father, now as for the mother-in-law, she should respect her son's choice in marriage and should not put her son in such a poor petty position with is wife nor should his wife do the very same thing. Myself, I would not let my mother run my house over my wife, nor should my wife dictate how or when I should do/ or not do for mother. Like you said, they both have to respect each other's position with the son/wife because most son's will not reject their wife to not help/do for her mother/father, so be the same with him and his mother. Thank you for addressing this issue 🙏 🦉💜🥰

It's good you openly spoke of God, Spouse, Kids, etc. Way too many couples speak in their wedding vows the words, "What God has joined together, let No Man put us under". But We changed those words in our vows to say, "what God has joined together let NO 'ONE' put us under"! Which means we chose our life's partner to be above EVERYONE but God.... So many divorces happen because one or both of the parties involved loose sight of these words they promised to each other on their wedding day. Our spouses absolutely MUST be first in our marriage...right under God and BEFORE our Kids. Kids ARE No. 2! If there are problems like addiction, then honor your vows with your spouse by both getting professional help together. Don't let your love for your children take presidence over your life's partner you are promised to. You made that promise to God and to your spouse. You do an outstanding job of explaining what we need to know before deciding to marry. I wish I knew all this before my first marriage failed. This time all these issues will be addressed first and foremost before vows are to be spoken. I am now gratefully in a serious mature, long-distance committed relationship, which is perhaps headed toward a marriage one day....IF the important things you say are going to be resolved to both of our liking. And YES, 'Sex' IS essential. It literally destroyed my first marriage. 35+ yrs of a sexless, loveless, non-intimate marriage just to 'honor' my vows is absolutely insane! It's no wonder some people cheat. (I didn't but suffered greatly.) Thank you so much for your insight amd God bless you always....

I've watched this video a few times lol. I've never been married and if I ever do, I want to enter into it eyes wide open. I am 100 percent convinced not enough pertinent discussions are had between each party. I want to marry someone whole and healthy in every way possible as I want to offer the same for him. I'll fool around and pull out this video on one of our dates for a Q and A session! 😆😆

I like the idea of discussing what u see in him & see what he thinks of what u see as a good fit for you. I think a man should not prioritize his Mother over his woman or wife. My friend prioritizes his kids... Minors, & possibly the grown ones, over me & denies it. I REALLY resent him for it, but he still denies it! I wouldn't mind moving over for his Mother if she isnt being Evil, on purpose!

Wow it's like you're reading my brain and know exactly what I'm dealing with...I spit my coffee out when you addressed the mom issue🤣🤣. This one guy was 43, living with his parents in the basement(no seperate entry but tried to justify it as living on his own🤦‍♀️), then had the audacity to get pissed at all his previous ex gfs cause they didn't want to be with a man that literally told them "my mom is my best friend. She will ALWAYS come first before anyone else".I was speechless. Just the fact he couldn't grasp why a real woman would find all of these attributes to be a major turn off and run like hell. He was actually upset and blamed them like they did something wrong. That's Bates motel kinda crap..so creepy!!!! He kept pursuing me despite me telling him I wasn't interested especially in him. Thankfully he lived 3k miles away. I've just ignored him. So far so good but just wow. That was insane! You're videos are pure fire! So good💪🔥❤️! God Bless you bro!

Yep! My last marriage ended because my husband had no backbone to his mother. He allowed her negative influence to ruin our marriage. She was toxic. He bowed down to everything she said & she would give me negative criticism on Facebook, publicly. It was horrible. I was like deuces! Because I lost all respect for him.

You are very correct when it comes to sexual expectations and desires. I'm demisexual and many people confuses that with not being sexual. In fact, I'm super sexual, but only when there's emotional, mental and romantic connection. Also, I need commitment. So this topic is extremely important to being discussed during dating, before even entering a relationship. I made this mistake of not talking about sex before entering a relationship and it was pretty messy. I won't do the same mistake again.

Yes agree that clearly defined roles and expectations in all areas of the relationship from the kitchen to the bedroom definitely makes a big difference in terms of being in alignment. When you are aligned with meeting their needs and share common ideas/beliefs then that helps to minimize conflict. The main thing is to have open communication where you know beforehand what are the non-negotiables as that typically doesn't change & what are the areas of flexibility. Exploring intimacy on all levels is essential as one affects the other. Establishing clear boundaries is key in all areas and recognizing when their is a mismatch. Mismatching on the key essential things will create discontent & strife it would be better to acknowledge that and part ways. Really, the couple should establish their vision together as a family unit and how they see their lives progressing over time. The whole concept is to see if they can function in harmony on one accord. Excellent video, great questions. Blessings & peace to u.

@@MeetStephanSpeaks I forgot to mention that the woman should also ask the man about his spirituality and how important that will be to their daily lives as they also have to be on the same page with their spiritual beliefs systems & even their spiritual environment in the home. If they are not in alignment that will create a great divide in the home..

The MOTHER QUESTION is SOOOOO important! Stephan you are ON POINT with this one. I experienced this exact issue in my first marriage to my late husband (I was married young at 21) it was ROUGH first 4/5 yrs because of her! She never liked any of her daughter in laws but I got the worst of it since I took her BABY BOY 😩 but he eventually got a hold of the situation (wGods help) but I constantly felt like I was trying to steer a huge boat between the two of them… and not SHIP WRECK!

The last question about fitness needs to be more age based.... (considering til death do you part) because as people age, things in the body change...not just weight. wrinkles, sagging, body parts stop working correctly, health issues come up, etc.... so, while in the early years this bears a lot of weight, the rest of the deeper issues need to be in place because if it's truly til death do you part, this falls by the wayside...
