Kobe played for every single fan. He never wanted to sit out a game for the fear of his fans not watching him after paying their hard earned money to go see him. No player does that today, no one.

@@Zenigundam You're not very smart. Kobe out worked everyone. His ego is what made him a 5 time champion. He obsessed over the game of basketball like no other. He mastered his craft. Millions of dollars or not he didn't have to shoot 100+ free throws everyday before every game. He earned all of that money.

@@taylorsmith1981He's referring to the man's reputation. In an increasingly-secular modern world, people's reverence that was once given to a deity is now given to the modern giants of our time. People wanted to reach out and touch Kobe, like they were trying to touch Christ; to feel a physical connection to him. I'd agree in calling it "Godly" or "God-like" in terms of status.

He played on loaded teams for half of his career. When he didn't have Shaq, Rice, Fox, Fisher, Horry, Gasol, Bynum, Odom, etc., he proved that he could not carry a team. The 81-point performance was disgraceful and inefficient. Chris Mihm shot a higher FG % for the game, yet he took 38 fewer shots than Kobe, who hogged the ball and stat padded. Luka showed the world how you put up an historic performance (70+ while being a team player). Kobe's ego got the best of him in the end. There was no reason to flaunt his wealth by taking a private helicopter to a middle school basketball game.

Never will you hear them give Kobe his true props. Empty words.

Can i ask a serious question? Do you mean by giving him props meaning that you HAVE to put him in the top 3 of all time? This is the problem with these GOAT discussions. Kobe is CLEARLY A top 10 player in nba history. Maybe top 5 but when someone argues that Lebron, Duncan or Bird might be better we aren't giving him "true props". Dudes a legend. But not everyone has to have him in their top 3.
