Max is silent because no one is interested in talking to him. Stephen only talks about Max because he's constantly asked to come on podcasts and they ask him the same questions over and over. Podcasts aren't calling for Max because no one really cares about him which has been proven again and again by being let go from all his jobs.

Stephen A. can beat around the bush all he wants, but that doesn’t change the fact that he blatantly disrespected Max Kellerman. Saying the audience can’t connect with Max because he wasn’t a journalist or an athlete is a knock on what he’s accomplished in his career to get into that position. Just because you are either doesn’t mean you do your job well, or are entertaining. He also didn’t show the clip where he said he was practically doing first take by himself?? How can he deny that’s not disrespectful to Max? He does realize the most popular moments of first take in their tenor together were from Max right? Not to mention, when he kicked off Max the ratings went DOWN, not up. He could’ve just said they didn’t click together and left it at that, but he as a grown man made the decision to take a left turn and call out Max’s credentials as well as insult what he brought to the show. It’s funny how he talks about what Skip did to Shannon as if he didn’t treat Max worst, then proceeded to trash talk the man while he’s unemployed. Well done Stephen A.

Max was initially a breath of fresh air for First Take. But many of his takes towards the latter of his tenure got ludicrous. (See his famous "I want Andre Iguodola" statement) and I agree - the show had gotten really stale for a moment. Things change, and things happen. Sometimes you have to adapt. Max unfortunately, what's impacted by a very tough decision that he had to make. SAS has been my guy since his days in Philly. He's put the sweat equity in, and he's earned the spot that he is in today. I thought Max was better suited to be with J Will and Keyshawn. You could physically see that he was more comfortable there. Max was unfortunately the victim of ESPN's downsizing of it's staff. Max is incredibly talented. He's going to be okay. And truth be told, I think he should return back to boxing where he is the top dog.

He also made it clear that he spoke to management and "2 hours later" they let him know Max was going to be gone. Smith is more of a celebrity than he is a credible journalist. That's the difference. His sports takes were getting destroyed by a History major People don't tune into the show for being a sports guru. They tuned in for his (over)reactions for entertainment value. Hence - coming into work with a cigar, Prescott jersey and cowboy hat. Smith top notch when it comes to theatrics. I think Kellerman actually wanted to talk sports.

He didn’t attack TO at all, everything he said was factual. The things TO said were opinions. Quite honestly, for TO to be the 3rd greatest receiver ever, his post career is lackluster underwhelming. TO has major character flaws, he seems like the type of guy who would pillow talk to your girl behind your back, or if you loan him money, he won’t answer his phone if he can’t pay you back. Lastly, I would never do a crime with someone like him, because if y’all get caught, TO is taking the stand. Even the statement about Max being “more black” than SAS, what grown man talks like that? And why as black man would you disrespect another black man on national television for the world to see? Stephen A you did not tell the truth about Max in regards to his credentials and knowledge for sports. He may not have been a journalist but he had been in the boxing scene for 20+ years and also has had 20+ years in television and broadcasting. Max is one of the best minds on boxing out there you’ll ever find. He also always made his takes with a combination of statistics, facts, logic, reasoning, and history. I was an avid First Take watcher for several years and have watched several fights Max has provided commentary, interviews, and analysis for. There were several times his takes we’re far better than yours. So you may not have liked working with him, but don’t ever put disrespect on his credibility and knowledge of sports.

Stephen A., with all due respect, Max brought a unique perspective to "First Take." His diverse opinions often clashed with yours, which made the debates gripping. With his extensive sports background, he was always prepared with well-researched arguments. The ratings remained solid during his time, and he had undeniable chemistry with everyone on the show. Moreover, on the Joe Budden podcast, you seemed to diminish his career and credibility to debate with him, which I find hypocritical. Max's departure changed the show's dynamics significantly. He had a loyal fan base and added diversity to the discussions. While I understand there might be behind-the-scenes reasons, from a viewer's standpoint, Max was a valuable asset to First Take. #RespectForMax

I stopped watching First Take almost completely once Max left the show. Ill tune in maybe once a month now for a clip or two on youtube. I used to like Stephen A's style, but not so much over the past few years. That loud, bloviating, emotional, center-of-attention showman stuff mostly annoys me now. In the simplest terms MAX always spoke truth to power, while Stephen a always sided with the powerful. I think the biggest problem Stephen A had with Max is that Stephen A’s ego is through the roof and he can’t stand to be around somebody who will not placate to that ego by allowing Stephen A to be loud and wrong like he’s always been. The reason the chemistry didn’t work because at every turn Stephen A tried to disrespect Max because I feel like Stephen A was intimidated a little by how intelligent Max is. It’s hard to have a debate show with someone who’s going to win debates on logic every time when you’re as Stephen A.. are “trying to have a debate show”.. Stephen A hated the fact that Max, at times, would run circles around him and call him out on his theatrics. Stephen A thinks he’s never lost a debate in his life according to him.. he needs people around that he’s either bigger than or intellectually superior then in order for the show to work the way it has and Max wouldn’t allow for that because Max doesn’t play a character. TO pissed him off because that whole black thing really bothers Stephen A, but if I said it once.. I’ve said it a million times.. not all skinfolk are kinfolk! Stephen A as much as he’s helped black people has also torn down more black men than anyone through his work and was getting ready to do the same damn thing to TO before this Kyrie tweet, because he knew how bad it was gonna make him look! This still makes him look bad honestly because it’s petty and beneath him. But his ego won’t allow for him to say nothing and not take very low shots at TO in this diatribe. It’s weak.. but.. it’s right on brand for Stephen A.

Kellerman was wrong often about a bevy of topics, especially politics where it was clear SAS had no interest in going there but Kellerman was so ardent in his political philosophies and obsessions (which were often proven dead wrong, such as his obsession with “Russian Collusion”) that they show often got side tracked into a CNN panel. Anyone with a brain saw how bad the chemistry was and saw how the show was becoming polarizing/less popular. SAS had every right to fire someone he hired. Whatever, happens everyday

How do you know. You work for ESPN? Can you shed some inside info that SAS don’t know? Or are you speaking from your personal perspective?

Listen to Marcellus Wiley's podcast show regarding this - he was spot on. Stephen A was just ultimately insecure about having him on.

Max got bounced so what? Undisputed was better than first take when max was their point blank. First take is Stephen A show just like Undisputed is Skips. Y’all can love Max all you want, they weren’t beating undisputed in ratings. Stephen A had the power to make a move and he did. Respect it and let it go.

Stephen 🐍Smith is smart enough to know that all press is good press. He’s representative of those who have been done dirty in corporate America and decides to pass that same treatment down to others rather than change the culture.

My point is this. If MAX went upstairs to management and said get rid of Stephen a, I can’t work with him…… if espn fired stephen a and kept max on first take. Then out comes the black card! Then he would say max did him dirty! That max went behind his back! That max stole his show! Stephen a has the right to want to work with someone else but he did max wrong! If max did the same to him, he’d be wrong! At the same time, T.O calling max black? Wtf? T.O was wrong for that PERIOD!

I don’t disagree with you whatsoever. Where SAS went wrong is discrediting Max and putting out a narrative that he doesn’t resonate with people. Max is one of the best boxing analyst and is intelligent.@@sanpablos39

A lot of people agreed with TO saying that about Stephen A. That’s why it struck a nerve for him. If you representing the culture accordingly then a rebuttal wouldn’t have even been excessively necessary at the time or prior. Don’t take “false” insults to heart

@@snuggles24 from the excerpts you might have seen is what I’ll base your comments on. Just watching the guy and his entirety over a time, like a lot of people who likes sports. Colin isn’t the only objection. And then the inverse of Max actually speaking to the issues black people actually speak on is a definite contrast that takes people back like “hmmm why does Max have to be the one pressing issues and bringing attention to black causes and knowledgeably”
