Smith might not realize that we have a couple generations of Latvian Americans raised in EXILE during the Soviet occupation of Latvia -- add to that a whole nation that only regained its independence in 1990-1 -- all -- and i mean all of us -- rooting for KP. Smith would do well to compare African American history to the history of the Native People of Latvia. That might help explain KP's heart. Dare I compare KP to Muhammed Ali? We have a whole nation hoping to dare to be able to say "don't step on me, we matter. no we will not disappear despite hundreds (actually thousands) of years of marginalization and oppression." Latvians were owned by landowners. We were bought and sold right along with property. Not a lot of people talk about that, but it's true. So, when Latvians watch KP competing in the USA -- in the actual "real" NBA -- we lift him up in our hearts as he jumps -- we want his shots to go in from thousands of miles away. He really is a hero -- and he is even taking pics w the Latvians living in the places where he plays. If he lasts or doesn't last (but I have a feeling he'll last), we love him. We are grateful for his presence, strength, determination, and intelligence. A culture, people, nation, and language -- so marginalized -- for so long -- but w so much to say and so much to offer. And KP is accepting his role in the spotlight with such grace and heart :-) That is what Smith might be missing & i think it might just bring Smith to tears -- to find out just what KP represents -- and how much it means to us that "one of us" is out there on the court playing professionally -- that one of us even "got picked." Let that one sink in. He's a hero just for getting picked. He's a hero scoring 4 points -- not to mention 29. He's a hero if he never plays another game, and he's a hero if he dominates the court for a decade -- or two -- or longer! When the crowd chanted his name: you can chant "Lat-vi-ja" to the chant of his name. We've hardly had a chance to shine as a people. It means a lot to us.

+Robert Acosta Just another kid??? Are you an imbecile? He is 7 foot 3!!! He can handle the ball, he can shoot jumpers, hit 3's & free throws out of the bag. He can dunk, block shots & rebound. How many players like that came out in any draft??? Those are once in a generational tools & talent he has & you say he's just another kid? Maybe you Knicks fans should watch draft videos before booing the kid & saying he's not good. A lot of people know about him. He played in a pro league in Europe. The videos is in KZbin just do a little searching. SAS knows nothing about basketball. Real players & analyst like Michael Thompson knew this kid even before the beginning of last season.

After KP6 dropped 24/14 (with Seven blocks) last night, today's NY Post headline read, "Kristaps Porzingis dominates in jaw-dropping tour de force." I really enjoyed listening to Stephen A. Smith go from a hatter and loudmouth critic, to a humbled and enthusiastic supporter of this rookie (and of Phil Jackson). Just goes to show you, that self-proclaimed "experts" like Smith aren't experts at all; they are just loud, pride-filled folks that think they know something about something that they themselves have never done or accomplished.

I however am a bit cautios when it comes to Kristaps,(as I would be with any young promising player) not that I don't want him to be great, I truly do and it would be a fantastic experience to watch great basketball from him for years to come, but I don't like the media and fans getting this excited so soon ( not even half of a season has passed) and I do believe that being a bit more reserved is a better way to handle watching Kristaps play, atleast till the end of his rookie season. But maybe I'm wrong and he is already ready for high praise and greatness, I guess time will tell.

Maybe you can´t make a comparison in the phisical aspect, cause obviously NBA are waaaay better. But in questions such as tactic order, defensive sistems and ball movement Europe in general is much better. In the NBA they are like 2 or 3 teams that have some order and they share the ball, in Europe everybody plays and gets in the game, and for me that is the most beautiful way of playing.

However, if you're gonna make such strong remarks as "Deceiving" to the Zen master, then perhaps you should've gone back and looked at Porzingis before you decide to go on a rant and make a fool out of yourself. +usmcnyc636 Porzingis was placed at 4th in the mock draft and was like 6th or 8th last year when he canceled because he was too young, maybe fans didn't know about him, but it wasn't like journalists didn't rank him high or didn't know about him, it was that some of them choose to act like that wasn't the case or play ignorant for their own agenda. Stephen A. Smith wouldn't have went on such a rant if Jackson would have drafted any other black dude in the draft, evident by Smith saying he would have had absolutely no problem with and in fact would have very much PREFERRED Jackson drafting: Towns, Okafour, Winslow, Russell, Mudiay, Payne, Turner or Johnson, or else put, any other black dude in the the draft. This is the 100th time this clown, who only has this job because he is an affirmative action guy, behaves this way. The Knicks supporters can get a pass, but this motherfucker can go straight to hell.

He says numerous times, that he likes him a lot more than he thought he would, he also says he has heart and isnt afraid of the big moment, which is something you cant measure until the season is well underway. He changed his mind after seeing proof more so than backpedaling, like most of NY and the rest of the American media.

Ramon Suarez He is not overrated. Watch him play and you will see how his low post game is actually one of the best in the league right now at 19. He didn't choose where to go either, but we have to give credit when credit is due. He is playing at a high level. Every player has their flaws, no one is perfect. Remeber he is a rookie and only 19.

Especially in a stacked draft were we could've gotten anyone, we got a skinny kid from some European country that nobody had heard of. Now, I'm excited! This kid can BALL! I see him as a more defensive, more athletic Dirk. He'll be an All Star in the next 2-3 years, guaranteed.

What I see in Kristaps is a lot of the same traits the Admiral (David Robinson for you younger people) had. Mobile, agile, good shot, excellent footwork, good handle on the ball, great off the ball tracking. Now, he's still young (he's four years younger than the Admiral was as a rookie), and New York could still screw things up with him, but from what he's shown already this young man has a bright future in front of him and he has all the potential necessary to be a true superstar. I hope he becomes an absolute terror in the Big Apple.
