I couldn’t believe it as a kid that I got to witness this match. I couldn’t believe the biggest star of this generation was facing the biggest star in WWF history.. I had never seen Hogan in WCW and only knew of him, so to see him join the WWF and then have this icon vs icon match was so wild to me as a kid lol. The build up was sooooo good! Greatest WrestleMania match for me just for the sheer spectacle of it all.

Lol, he was in small parts for a while, then hit it big as The Arrow, The CW’s Batman Begins-like modernization of the Green Arrow comics. That station is smaller, especially on an international scale, I would imagine, so it makes sense some people haven’t heard of him. It would do 8 seasons, spawn off multiple shows, and create a whole little DC empire on the channel, with frequent crossovers. While this was going on, he became a friend of wrestling, being a guest at several WWE shows, where they’d do angles like the guy who plays Arrow (he was shredded) vs. whatever heel wrestler. He even ended up in a full match or two, with a wrestler also playing a bit part on the show. After Arrow ended, he went onto Heels, a drama show about pro wrestling.

People that think this is a mediocre match dont understand the level of timing necessary to have the crowd in the palm of their hands. Hogan might be the greatest worker ever in wrestling in terms of knowing when to do what to get the most reaction out of the audience, he did it in AWA and NJPW even before 1984 wwf era
@sleepinggorilla
@sleepinggorilla Ай бұрын
Hogan’s gift is pantomime. He is very good at getting his characters emotion across to the audience. In the battle Royal we with three rings Hogan is wrongly eliminated. He does a great job arguing with the ref and pulling on the rope to tell the crowd he went under the rope. It’s very clear what he is saying, and he doesn’t say a word.
@gourabsarker6895
@gourabsarker6895 Ай бұрын
I think the ignorance towards Hogan from a section of pro-wrestling fans is a part of the wider age-old never-ending rift among the pro-wrestling community, between the wrestling focused on showmanship and wrestling focused on technical sophistication. Hogan is the poster child for showmanship in wrestling. He is the one who made big money, but the underground fans disregard his achievements as inferior compared to their favorites who didn't make as much money. For wrestling to survive as a business throughout history, it needed superstars like Hogan to sell out venues/merch, get attention from a mainstream audience through appearance in movies/talk shows/popular TV shows, etc. Not by catering to a gatekeeping section of underground fans.
@ArcaneAzmadi
@ArcaneAzmadi Ай бұрын
@@gourabsarker6895 Actually, the "underground wrestling fans" are the ones who are aware that Hogan was a much better worker than he usually showed, the ones who knew about his work in Japan. You know, the kind of guy who insists on showing everyone the Hogan vs Muta match. They understand that Hogan was DELIBERATELY working down to a pantomime level because that's what the American audience wanted- a big, flashy, invincible, all-conquering comic book superhero, and that if he'd shown the same technical workrate he did in Japan he wouldn't have had the same aura. It's the guys who are just a level above the "underground" section who dismiss Hogan as a talentless marketing toy, the ones who consider themselves "smart" about the business because they know a bunch of insider jargon, but haven't done the real research.

@@Shendue You don't have to be a Hulkamaniac to see Hogan's impact on the business. It's absolutely fine to not be a Hogan fan. Were his ways of protecting himself at the cost of someone else's push controversial? Sure. But it's his impact on the business that is undeniable.
