For Eva Jean: Until 1901 it had been at the option of the First Lady to have the residence of 1600 Pennsylvania painted whatever color she chose. Stephen Colbert is reminding me more and more of Mr. Rogers all the time. This episode he is especially putting Mr. Rogers vibes as he is talking directly to children while wearing a sweater. This is a good thing, and a complement to Stephen. I feel like Stephen Colbert has been a voice of reason and sanity, during a very turbulent time, that I never thought I would see in the United States. For me this is reminiscent of how Fred Rogers was a calming, reassuring voice during our childhood (albeit Stephen uses more adult human and language). Thank you Stephen, we have needed someone like you to get us through the absence of humanity and leadership in the White House these past four years. Now that Biden is president elect, I feel like there is hope for our future as a free nation, but unfortunately the storm is not over yet, and I fear our nation will take a long time to recover and heal.

It's funny that the age of consent in a lot of states (including Vermont, my home state) is lower than the age that you need to be to vote. So, either 16 year olds are capable of making complex, sometimes life changing decisions or they're not. Which is it, America? :P
@granville73 жыл бұрын
you'll find that distinction in many countries. today, the age of consent is generally a few years lower than the voting age. almost everywhere the voting age is similar to legally becoming an adult whereas the age of consent is often found in the criminal code to determine whether someone is a sex offender or not. the age threshold for the law to pronounce you an adult is arbitrary. the age of consent was a bit off in past decades but lawmakers yielded to biology and corrected it to the age when humans become sexually active. however, this biological aging process is not necessarily mirrored 1:1 by maturing enough so the mind can be considered equally grown up and reasonable. this usually takes a few years longer. so thedifference makes sense.
@aceofspades95033 жыл бұрын
Think about it this way. In most states you have to be at least 25 before you can rent a car. That means you can be licensed to drive your own, you can die for your country, you can get married, have kids, consent to sex, drink, and in some states smoke pot.....all before you are allowed to rent a car from a business. I'm not saying there aren't reasons for this. I am saying its funny when you think about it. :)
@granville73 жыл бұрын
@@aceofspades9503 you are mixing oranges with apples. the car rental thing is purely company policy. let's stick to the law and why it differentiates. if you find the rules in your state a bit weird, try to get an understanding how it is regulated in other states or countries. maybe you'll find out your state is indeed a bit weird.^^
