I really hope this goes to court. I can imagine the Irish politicians trying to defend this in the eye of world media. I'm not worried for Stephen. it will come to nothing, but it would draw attention to this ridiculous law.

Couldn't agree more. I wonder, if they must prove a god exists or is this only "my feels hurt" -law.

The past few weeks have really made me want to leave Ireland altogether. The investigation of Stephen Fry, handing over the National Maternity Hospital to a group of nuns (only a month or so after the uncovering of the remains of 800 children and single mothers at a site formerly owned by the exact same nuns), and not to mention that whole incident last week where there was a vote in the Dáil to separate church and state, but instead it was implemented that everyone had to stand during the opening prayer... Being an atheist in Ireland is becoming more and more emotionally draining every day.

Scotland still has blasphemy laws too. Whether they would ever be enforced is another question.
@alexcardosa80796 жыл бұрын
If it still active then all you need is the wrong person in power and yes it would again be enforced.

How are the police loony? They didn't write the laws, but they're sworn to uphold them.
@dalepartoon39187 жыл бұрын
Yes you are right sorry. it is the loser country not the police. I an a law a biding guy and do actually like what they do Just the thing is you can be fined for a fending some thing that dose not exist. I have never broke the law in my life and never will. O.K thanks and all the best.

The law was initially designed to protect other religions than Christianity it's poorly worded but it's hardly fair to describe a whole country as 'loser'

Basically it was a clumsy attempt to have insightment to religious hatred criminalised.Which i don't agree with either ,but thats what it was.It has no support from either conservatives or liberals in ireland why it was brought in just 9 years ago just don't know.There was no lobby whatsoever

To the narrator: I don't imagine anything occurred to YOU concerning Ireland since you had no idea....blah blah blah. Cheap sarcasm works here in America, too. You're not alone. It's the same old story, Baby. Love the laws you love. Hate the laws you hate. 'Ya know what I love?? I LOVE "enlightened" thinkers who still have this FANTASY that their own systems of thought are not becoming their own religions, patently. This from the people who don't like religion. It's only logical for one to abhor "organised religion", when the individual lives by his own "religion". Of course I might bore you with THOUSANDS of passages from "the Bible" that encourage individual thought and reflection, but why bother?? Our Mr. Fry says what he says. It's very amateurish, it's very lazy...but he's a fellow human being. If he thinks that God is some evil "referee" or some mystical "scorekeeper", what can I do but pray for him??

@John ORourke - "If he thinks that God is some evil "referee" or some mystical "scorekeeper", what can I do but pray for him??" - Then you clearly don't understand Stephen Fry if thats the reasoning you came up with. But feel free to comment, whilst I don't agree with you, you are welcome to share your opinion :)
