I just listened to mister Fry read this book. Best thing I have ever heard. The myths are about us! Our strengths and weaknesses wound up in wonderful tales. Fry is like a mixture of Oscar Wilde & Winnie-the-Pooh. I wish I was as smart, as kind, as wise and as articulate as he is.

Stephen Fry is a bright fire of intelligence in an ever darkening world.

Oh how I love this man! In a perfect world, Stephen would be my next-door neighbour. We would sip tea and drink wine, he would talk and I would listen... My life would be complete.

So much love here for Stephen. It's all perfectly justified, of course; he is truly a gift to us all.

If any of you are interested in this subject and other origins of myths and the human psyche may I suggest the books and audio tapes by Joseph Campbell.

Mythology and symbolism are piercing the arts, design and all creative areas. Religion and science are unable to replace myths

I remember seeing Ridley Scott talking about artificial intelligence. It obviously fascinates him as well. But no one has ever really explained how they get to the "self-aware" stage, even with an intelligent designer of the AI, as Stephen mentions here. This is a really good thing to do in a book, keeping the classics alive. I am really happy that Stephen failed in his attempt to take his own life.

And he thinks we can handle that future any better than we've handled the past? Even the most intelligent people, such as Hawkins, realize we're balanced on the edge of a sword.

This brilliant creator of fiction is certain there is nothing like intelligent design. Hmmmm.

That is quite a claim, he states there is no inteligence behind the Universe yet he has only experienced a very small part of the vast history and scope of all things. Maybe we should just take Stephens truth claims for what they are; a confirmed atheists and comedians personal opinion. Einstein on the other hand was more careful in his considerations, rather suspecting that there had to be some inteligent source for origins of our finely tuned Universe.

@@kingy002 thanks, I would suggest you believe in Universes that arrive from nothing; that the complex laws and constants of our universe are luck; that matter and energy produced information; that the first living cell assembled itself; that nothing exists outside of what you can test and see; that's you have discovered all the dimensions that are out there; that it's not possible that our universe can be penetrated by an outside inteligence; that your life is ultimately meaningless. Stephen Hawking believed in other dimensions with the possibility of inteligent beings, are you saying you rule out the possibility they could penetrate our universe?

@@kingy002 Have you ever lived the holy life? If not, you have not walked the path I have! I have been a "want to be" atheist for most of my life, I know the story. It's like your favourite football team, I was a diehard in my support of my homies, we atheists united. There was rarely a day where I sought to check the other team out, that would be like treason! I eventually changed and sought the truth, my old life was becoming empty, void of meaning and power to keep the facade going. There is whole other world going on which most are unaware or will ever see. When people talk of a light coming into their lives, they really mean that brother.

Obviously aware of no intelligent designer that made us since Darwin? Really? Not so unequivocal myself about that. Why wouldn't God choose to design through natural selection?
