@@johnmartin650 Because a lot of folk, especially with the British mentality, tend to get bored of predictable winners and naturally start wanting the underdog to win as it would be more exciting to see. Always a problem being a regular winner, people start to hate you purely because they want to see something more exciting (ie, unpredictable and different). There is also just that element of the basic fact that in order to really dominate so consistently all the time for so long, you have to be very cold and more robotic. Entertaining personalities may be super talented and win quite a bit, but they can't ever be so consistent about it all the time by the very nature of their minds and attitudes.

Hendry was an absolute weapon. He used to just mow players down and annihilate them before they got to the table. He was no frills and didnt carry on like a goose. The lack of tournaments in his day and yet still has 36 Ranking Titles to his name speaks volumes to his dominance. He was in my mind the beginning of the new era of players who attack and dont hold back, definitely inspired me as a young man to pick up a cue. Thanks Stephen.

Remember O' Sullivan knocking Mark Williams out of the WC in 2008, it knocked Mark out of the top 32, i think it was to number 48. Even then Stephen was still getting to the Crucible Semi-Finals. Yet Mark knuckled down and fought and put the hours in. Now he's still top 8. Stephen Hendry should still be top 3 in the world but everyone's motivations are different. He achieved everything and I don't blame him for not being up for a mad long fight. Our brains are different. williams, higgins and o'sullivan love competing. Hendry loved winning. Great channel! There is a portrait of you with the 87 Grand Prix trophy on the wall beside the table I play on in my local club (Pyramid Club in Kilmarnock) Every Friday night when I play with my 85 year old Dad (who’s claim to fame is beating John Pullman in a best of 5 exhibition back in 74) I always give it a wee glance of admiration. My old man aside, you were the biggest inspiration for me playing snooker & absolutely my GOAT. people say poncey Hendry declined from the early 2000s, but I think that is false. It's just that at the beginning of the 2000s, a new generation of extremely talented players emerged, not to mention the fact that Ronnie continued to progress enormously from the years 2002-2003 and after. It wasn't Hendry who declined, it was just the adversity that was too much for him. And let's face it, in the years of Hendry's reign, there was no great adversity facing him. If there were today's players back in Hendry's heyday, he would have won far fewer titles. Hendry is no Ronnie a far better player than Hendry.and Hendry will be the first to say it There is no question Ronnie O'Sullivan is the greatest 🐐

Awesome. Thanks fella. I really love to hear people talk about what made them. I am quite happy to listen to Hendry on Hendry on a regular basis. Just Hendry and the Table smacking balls in tellin us stories. There is something really satisfying about watching those balls go in one after another, the sounds, the feeling. The awe of the skill maybe. That can't get a win on the tour apparently but. I'd still love to see him get back out there competing seriously. Hendry is also that interesting story of the fine line that it is at the top. People talk about Tyson still being terrfying etc but remember when he lost his edge he was getting floored by absolute nobodies. He was still an animal but all of those guys are. It's more a testament to how great you have to be to dominate like that. People treat the also rans like jokes but they are streets ahead of the average person. Even to get a sniff of professional play you have to be a bit special. It isn't all good necessarily and the closer to the top the better/worse it gets. In the words of the Red Mamba, consider a universal jokes by casual idiots on their couch, 'I'm closer to Lebron than you are to me'. Anyway. I'm fascinated by the whole story. What makes peolpe great, why peole fail, why great people fail etc. To be able to listen to someone like Hendry like this talk, unhindered by some idiot Corporate Media agena is great (obviously there's a bit of production going on here at like our mate Joe Rogan he has had a lot time in the regular media before doing this). Like you are in the room with him as he practices just talking about his life. Then you get Ronnie, Robertson or some other sports legend who just loves snooker in there having a game a chat and a game and you get to sit in like one of their mates while it happens. Love it. Give me more... Harder, faster. No. I think we're at a stage where we can be a little more intimate.. romantic. Just keep it up. I'm open to Hendry on the Golf Course with Golf Pros also... could be a thing. It's still a cue tip all these things crossover and into life too which is perhaps the most important

Stephen and I are almost exactly the same age. I was a huge fan of the man the world knew as The Nugget, and remember my teenage depression following his defeats to Taylor and Johnson. Then three years of joy, then along came this young whipersnapper called Hendry who started winning everything. I couldn't dislike him because you'd have to be a fool not to recognise his enormous talent, but Davis was my hero and I didn't like seeing him getting beat. In the coming years I warmed to Hendry and regarded him as the best player ever to hold a cue. And it is fantastic to see what an engaging chap he is now that he can relax more and just enjoy being a legend of the game.

Everyone in Scotland loved it when Stephen was winning everything. Before Hendry, Scotland had been absolutely shit at snooker so to then utterly dominate the sport was amazing. Stephen i couldnt agree with u more, my mother was barmaid in local snooker club when i was age 6-16 ish , it became my home and i loved growing up there, once i got fairly good and in my teens and playing snooker and pool all the time, just having the local members watching me play while they were on the fruit machine like i did them as a kid, made me focus and practise on my own so much more seriously, a table at home wouldnt have been the same club atmosphere or effort/concentration from myself

I don't know if you or your team get to read the comments but could you give us your perspective on the history of the game and maybe a thought on the top players of the time Joe and Fred Davis onward and the greatest matches/games you have heard or seen. And possibly the difference the equipment has made over that time. If you could show us how the old ivory balls reacted that would be interesting. Really enjoying the channel.

I remember getting up early in the morning to watch "the king" play that my grandmother had recorded, before going work on my YTS course i was on as a trainee bricklayer. Inspired me to practice at Willie thornes in Leicester and just thinking about it now, i can still smell the steaks cooking and the hops from the beer they served there. Only seems like yesterday. Good times.

Loved snooker as a kid, but never really had the talent to go much beyond the occasional 40 break. My greatest triumph was getting an 18 break against Mike Hallett aged 11 at Filey Butlins. 😂. Great content Stephen, really enjoying your videos 👍
