This is really one of the best sketches of Stephen on the Late Show so far. Brilliant jokes of a talented staff, great interviews with truly interesting people, the 'unintentional' educational value of the show and Stephen simply crowning that with his personality - his intelligence, quick wit, authenticity and humour. So, why on earth are these videos not getting more views??? Television ratings is one thing, but KZbin videos? I don't quite get it... it's just sad.

+SpocketteINFJ Hey, may i ask what meta means in such contect? I use it as a term for the current ladder worthy lol chars.
@intrepiddk9 жыл бұрын
+William Cortelyou I mean the metalevel. Maybe I used that term wrong here. I meant that Colbert often has some sort of subcontext in what he says or does. He's self referencial sometimes. The joke is between the lines if you will. Does anyone know what I mean?
@poz19 жыл бұрын
+intrepidro yes i do, its just satire of the things going on in the media or in politics, i think its awesome :)
@Clymaxx9 жыл бұрын
+William Cortelyou Meta primarily comes from metaphysics, wherein physics deals with the physical realm, metaphysics deals with a level beyond the physical, like intangible concepts like the mind or spirit. You were referring to metagame, which is _the game within the game._ In gaming, there are the rules, and then there are the patterns. For example, in tennis, there are the rules that everyone follows. However, the *metagame of tennis* is the little things they do _to win_ such as putting some top spin on the ball, or spiking it down on the line, that are not mentioned in the rules. LoL has its own patterns that everyone follows without saying it. Meta used in this context refers to how Stephen acknowledges his satirical nature while also performing it live and realistically. It's a show _within a show._ He breaks the Fourth Wall by openly admitting planted audience members etc. Meta in literature and entertainment usually refers to a space wherein the work itself comments on the nature of itself or the genre, mode of entertainment, the audience, etc. It's like when characters know they're characters.

It's a bit premature to be concerned about the end of the Iowa caucuses. The situation is quite fluid and while some candidates are just limping along, there's still some stiff competition. We are far from the climax of the presidential campaigns. I'm sure Stephen can build a good rhythm for the coverage, pump out some great jokes, really give his audiences what they want. As the race gets tighter and tighter, and the excitement rises and rises, Stephen can fill his show with more and more election jokes, culminating with an explosion of hilarity that will leave everyone satisfied.
