This whole episode is so uplifting... thank you all of you for your input and sharing of experience. It is so, so needed. When my daughter's father passed a couple of years ago, she was naturally distraught. As she was hastily making her way over to her father's deathbed (a couple of hundred miles away) she called me to go see if the children were ok. They were with their dad at home. When I went in, expecting to see them upset, they looked at me in surprise. I asked if they were ok, not expecting the response I got from 4 yr old Beau. He looked at me and said, matter of factly, 'Granny, mum's gone to see her dad. He's on the way out! He's not expected to last the night...' and carried on playing his Mindcraft game with his big sister Evie (then, 8). They dealt with it. I didn't... Lesson learned... :)
