I’m trying to be a Stephen King completist. What you felt while reading “Misery” is what I call The Stephen King Effect. He has the uncanny ability to write in a way that makes you feel as though you’re going through what the main character is experiencing. He makes you think through “What if this was me?”
@BAW47Ай бұрын
The Stephen King effect!! I love this!!! Hands down, my favorite author. His profound and complex portrayal of his characters make you feel as if you are there. I don’t know if I didn’t scroll far enough in the comments, but just to clarify: Carrie was Stephen King’s first book (and is FANTASTIC). Jerusalem’s Lot was a short story which was published in a short story collection! Stephen King is such an interesting author because his writing spans so many different genres. He has some huge novels (see IT and The Stand, both of which are fantastic) and many short story collections. One book I always recommend to people who want to try to read Stephen King but aren’t as interested in horror/paranormal/thriller genres is 11/22/63 - it’s more of a science fiction novel because the story is about time travel and its consequences. Misery was an early read of mine when I was a young teenager and it still sticks with me ~20 years on. It’s so good!
