I met Stephen King once, he was working the food stand at a high school baseball game between my high school and I believe John Bapst, I was standing in line for a hotdog when everyone started taking the foul balls and running over to the food stand for him to autograph, he politely told them he wouldn’t and to please return the balls back to the team, he then handed me my hotdog with a smile 😅 Thanks again Jacob for letting me live vicariously back in my home state for a moment and please have a Moxie and a whoopie pie for me 😅

Im a huge horror fan, and grew up in New England. The entire northern east coast is spooky, and some graveyards are as old as the pilgrims. There’s even graveyards up here in the northern boonies in random places like close to someone’s yard or a road. They buried people where they found them (mostly in the winter/harsh times) The same could be said about people touring the Salem cemeteries around the witch tours. I am just so used to it living here hearing bout our creepy cemeteries that it’s just become folklore in itself. As a New England goth kid.. there was nothing more beautiful than a cemetery in the fall 😂

I think touring cemeteries is okay as long as the groups are respectful. I think people just get upset because they are trying to mourn in peace and are unable to due to tours like that. That woman was definitely going through something because if she was all about respect she wouldn't be screaming like that. Seeing the drain was super fascinating as we got a glimpse into Stephen's mind and what he could have possibly been thinking when he saw it. I know I get inspired by strange things like that too. I appreciate this video. Thank you!

Stephen King himself has described his books as "the literary equivalent of a Big Mac and fries from McDonald's" but I think he's selling himself short. He is by far my favorite living writer, and I think he has a brilliance that is overlooked because of how popular he is. It, the Stand, Cujo, Firestarter and Cycle of the Werewolf are all favorites of mine, and Pet Cemetery is the only book of his that I never finished because of how incredibly creeped out I got while reading it. My personal favorite is Eyes of the Dragon, as it's pure fantasy and you can't forget Misery, Gerald's Game, 11/22/63, and The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, the latter of which is almost completely overlooked. As always, well done and safe travels my friend.

Visiting grave sites, memorials etc. reminds us of our own mortality. This may have been fresh on the mind of that woman. I'm glad you understood her pain. We cannot and should not change how we explore our world (as long as we do so respectfully). There will always be conflicting points of view.

My dad and brother went to one of King's book readings in Bangor in the mid 90s, and at the end King placed a "curse" on the audience. Must have been real because my dads van broke down on the way home. 😂 I always have to laugh at that one.

The short story Rainy Season is actually about frogs ;) I love his short story collections as much as I enjoy the full-length novels! I think It is my favorite, but I enjoy all of his novels from the 70s-90s. I don’t think I bathed properly for a year or two after watching It as a ten year old! Absolutely the standpipe inspired It. I went up it and the view is phenomenal. You can see both Mt Washington and Mt Katahdin. And I got to see into the resevoir. Creepy af. But looking up, that sealed it. There is no ceiling, just the intricate iron rafters, painted white, holding up the roof. It looks like a giant spiderweb. It's nearly a hallowed space. I felt the same sort of chilled awe when I walked into the Long Room library at Trinity College in Dublin, a feeling of how can this be real.

I live about 20 minutes away from his house :) can't believe you're visiting us the day we're coming back from Detroit, we come up to Bangor often. I heard his house was made into a museum, but not sure since I never see anyone go past the gate. Him and his wife used to have open houses where they'd invite everyone in and do read aloud, but they stopped when people started stealing their stuff. And yeah there were red balloons tied to the gate when the new IT premiered. I'm glad you went to the bookstore in town, you should have seen the displays when they had the green mile and the shining. They once had one for IT with pennywise reaching out of the drain (I believe I have pictures somewhere if anyone wants to see). One thing with the mt.hope cemetery worth mentioning is that Charlie Howard is buried there, he was the victim of the state's worst hate crime- he got thrown over the bridge over on state street despite not being able to swim and he drowned.... All because he was gay. The bridge has been dubbed "Chuckahomo", I'm not even beginning to joke here. You can find his memorial by the bridge, and the incident was mentioned in IT part 2.

Hi Jacob. In Nightmares and Dreamscapes, there was a short story called Rainy Season where it rains carnivorous toads that can eat through wood to get to you. That is the only scary story with toads or frogs that I can remember. One of the best stories is Dolan's Cadillac. Not the movie, but the story. It, Pet Semetary, Joyland, The Stand, Needful Things, and others. There are so many good stories. I don't have a lot of time, so I use audio books when on the road. It's a great way to kill time. I have been a Stephen King fan since I was 16 and read my first book Carrie.

There are a lot of cemeteries that are in a sort of grey area when it comes to being tourist attractions. I know if a celebrity is buried somewhere, that cemetery will get a lot of traffic. So I think as long as people aren't being jerks about it and acting disruptive, it's fine for people to visit open cemeteries to see unique things.

Many years ago, I drove by the King residence. It was a dark, chilly and stormy day. The road was deserted. I think that had it been all bright and cheerful like it was for you, it just wouldn't have had the same errr, "impact". Honestly, that day it was pretty creepy lol. Many of King's books take place in or very near Derry (Bangor), and the characters of many different stories make cameos in others. Did you go eat at Dysart's? It was featured in Dreamcatcher (the book for sure). I've eaten there. Was great. *I also enjoyed The Governor's Restaurants while out and about in ME
