*Not-Fun Fact:* _Poe watched every friend/lover/parent/sibling he had die coughing up blood. It happened consistently throughout his entire life._ _The only exception to this was a childhood friend and sweetheart who shared his love of the macabre. She loved him, but was forced to marry someone else. Then decades later they reunited and got engaged, only for Poe to unexpectedly die directly before the wedding._

Another not-fun fact: The theater that Poe’s mother last acted in burned down three weeks after her death in December, 1811. The Richmond Theater Fire was one of the most devastating fires in the city up to that point, claiming the lives of 72 people, including the Governor of Virginia. After the fire, a church was built on the site of the original theater - Monumental Church. The church would be where young Edgar would be taken by his adopted parents; the Allan Family.

@ZacPensol
@ZacPensol 4 ай бұрын
@@stanleyyelnats9159 Yup! Lots of theories around - the most popular theory is that he was beaten and drugged and used to commit voter fraud, an act known as "cooping". Still, other theories exist - I personally believe he was ill as a few people who knew him with whom he interacted in the days before his death stated he seemed off or sick. Its been speculated that he may've had a brain tumor, rabies, or a less obvious form of tuberculosis which is a disease that seemed to haunt him through his life, having lost numerous loved ones to it.

If I had a nickel for every time George Watsky portrayed a famous English writer whose first couple lines imitated their writing in some manner, with a second verse where he rapped much faster, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.

Here just to say that "Poe's Poems Pwn Posers" is still the best line I've ever heard and surely my favourite by ERB's. From the allitteration in P (that hits like four punches in the stomach), to the meaning of the verse, since Poe was the master of horror, thriller, gothic and any similar literary genre. I'm a King lover, but there would never be any King without Poe.

Ive seen this battle over 50 times and I just discovered Poe's first verse is a trochaic tetrameter tl;dr Trochee: a two-syllable metrical pattern in poetry in which a stressed syllable is followed by an unstressed syllable Trochaic Tetrameter is a type of meter that contains four trochees per line

The genius of ERB to include subtle references in just about every battle they put out. For those who don't know, a 'trochee' is like an 'iamb', a term which you may have heard when studying Shakespeare in school. They're both a single unit of measurement (or 'foot') of a poetic verse. An iamb, the style typically attributed to Shakespeare, is an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable. So ba-BA ba-BA. For example, "I _went_ to _get_ a _loaf_ of _bread"_ has the stress on every 2nd syllable. A trochee is just the opposite: a stressed syllable first, then an unstressed syllable. _"With_ some _bread,_ I _will_ not _starve."_ So Poe's entire first line (which also references the opening line of 'The Raven') of "Once upon a midnight dreary, as I spit this weak and weary, I will choke this joker with a TROCHEE 'til his cheeks are teary" both refers to it by name and also is written in them (trochaic octameter to be exact). It is the style of most of Poe's writing, and is the poetic polar opposite of Shakespeare's iambic pentameter.

There's actually another scene where that bully (whose name I forgot) was getting stroked by one of his bullymates. And if I remember right, the other bully was older by a year or two. But it's fiction, it only matters if he actually DID anything to a child IRL, which he seemingly hasn't (because he's not a monster). It's been a while and I STILL haven't finished that goddamn book xD (I read From Under The Dome cover to cover, why not this book xD) *Edit-* Was talking to my dad just now and I remembered Dean Koontz. The one book of his I own has child sexuality in the beginning and my dad reminded me of George R. R. Martin who has WORSE than that in GoT. Danny is given to a man who's much older and she's under 18 in the books (not to mention that V weirdly creeps on her and he's her brother :/). Uh.. I'm trying to remember, I haven't read the books in years (and never watched the show but my parents did in the same room as me so xD). Oh, speaking of the show (dunno if it's in the books), Danny and Jon are related and have sex, I don't remember their ages when that scene happened but they're.. brother and sister, I think. More incest with uh.. Cerci and.. her brother (seriously, it's been a while since I read the books). Danny also gets creeped on by several other adults, like bruh, she's beautiful but calm tf down xD And here people are, years later, still giving King shit for a book, a piece of fiction, he wrote in the... 80s? But Mr. Martin gets a pass? I legit just realized that this sounds like me ranting about this subject but I'm simply pointing out that people still give King shit for that one scene in IT, but George R. R. Martin somehow gets a pass (because I haven't seen one comment pointing that out) because the show was really bomb for a lot of people (I still remember people losing their minds over a Starbucks cup being accidentally seen in the show, it was such a trip for me). I'm not condemning King, Koontz, or Martin, I just wanted it to be known that other famous authors have done this exact same thing but no one says shit to them, only my man Stephen. Wtf am I doing, this is KZbin xD TL;DR: King isn't the only one to write about child sexuality but he's the only one to get shit on for it, and that it displeases me. And also feel free to gloss over and not read this. I dunno why I tippy-tapped this on my tablet but I did xD

It's even cooler because he talks in the behind the scenes about how he considers the meter when he writes his lines kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2fHmmman5ingsU The first 2 bars of his rap here are in trochaic octameter, the same meter as "The Raven."

I haven’t seen anyone else mention this, and maybe I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure most of Poe’s lines in his first verse use a Trochee rhyme scheme, which is the same scheme as The Raven.

I don't know dude... Both of them can easily destroy HP Lovecraft with the fact that while he did introduce a Mythos that has since been expanded upon... He was also seriously racist, seriously paranoid, and seriously incapable of NOT being privileged... so much so that he never had a good understanding of concepts above 5th grade Math... Now, it would be fun tho if they also added in Junjo Ito as well (one of the most renown Horror Japanese Manga Artists)
