I may be late to the party but after we lost David (the C of CSNY) - was searching youtube for crosby concerts and kept finding these amazing clips from Stephen. Did not realize it was his raspy, sexy, hard driving, velvet voice that drives so many of the CSNY songs. A white man with a very soul voice. And ridiculously gifted on guitar. and lyrics. Did not realize. Feel so ashamed not to have been in love with SS all these years. Making up for it now. Listening over and again. Cannot really get enough. polite apologies. xxoxo

I saw him in concert in, I think, the late 1980s. It was a small venue and I could look back stage from where I sat. He was smoking a cigarette as he spoke to someone backstage. Not a useful habit if you're singer. I saw him in 2017, and I agree that his voice is shot. David Crosby and Graham Nash have done a much better job of not abusing their voices.
@steveschutter

@@arpadzigisfari5819 I cannot imagine how much worse his voice has gotten. Just remember the good times and what he once did. Many did not take care of themselves and he is one of them.

@@arpadzigisfari5819 with respect to Still’s voice, it’s been very much effected by profound hearing loss. He was first diagnosed with a hearing loss at nine years of age. In his later years, it’s become quite severe. You can easily hear the effect it has on his speaking voice. Singing onstage could only be more difficult.

No wonder Hendrix said often that of all players out there he could go for hours jamming, for the heck of it no money but for themselves with Stephen (his own "White brother from another mother"), and same with Clapton and others that liked if they were around and free to play along with Stills. Stills is no Santana, no Black Hendrix and no White bred like Clapton, but is it true what he says he learned to play this wicked good from his years growing in South America and on the same "wrong tracks of town" near Black Music once back in USA, like George Carlin growing White in Black Harlem? The odd bird out across 3 fabulous ethnic Musical no-man's borderlands rich in spoils, the Canary in the Coalmine blond boy that got through this soulful.
